  • I had this stupid shit once really seriously when i was in High School, I just got out of gym and was sitting in my car and my heart kept beating fast and it kept beating fast for like almost an hour, so i went to my doctor and he had to call the ambulance, they gave me a shot of some meds that IMMEDIATELY slowed it down and took me to the hospital, there they determined i had this crap by doing an EKG and the doc said its not an uncommon thing and i shouldnt really worry about it.

  • I just got diagnosed with PSVT about 4 months ago. I woke up from a deep sleep. My heart was way past 120BPM's, I'm 34 so I SWORE I was having a heart attack. The Vagus maneuvers does stop it. So far meds haven't helped and they are still trying to rule out certain that its not VT. It's absolutely a terrifying experience as I haven't gotten "used" to this yet.

  • i'm 13 and i've had ir for about two years...i hate it because when it gets bad enough, i need to tell somone just so they can keep an eye on me in case i faint or something...and all teachers and adults take it one of two ways when i tell them:

1.they FLIP OUT and like wanna call 911

    or

    2. they don't believe.

ugh...can't they just chill out and make sure nothing hapens, i'll be fine! O.o

  • You can stop those SVTs with Vagus maneuvers UNLESS they're a Sinus Rhythm. ;-) PSVT never have Sinus Rhythm! It's an electric reentry mechanism in the AV-node region or the AV-node itself. You may heal it by Catheter Ablation and alternatively may prevent or/and discontinue it with Betablockers as long as you don't have a basic low blood pressure - also mind their other side effects. ;-)

  • @Sterndi1 Please don't give advice everything you said was incorrect!! it is a Vagal maneuver for the vagus nerve and WILL NOT STOP a reentry problem. It will stop a SVT for a VERY short time. contraindication in reentry is beta blockers. the reentry is not through the AV node and if you ablate that they you have only the reentry pathway which is not built for it and has no place to pause the signal and WILL move the ventricles at the Atria's intrinisic rate. There is so much more I could add!!!

  • @mjg1970: Of course you can STOP PSVTs with vagal maneuvers - I've never said it will HEAL them but it may be able to convert a (P)SVT into Sinus Rhythm again! :-D Why the heck do you write BETABLOCKERS are contraindicated for "reentry"? I've been taking them for 16 years to prevent my PSVTs! ;-) For the AVNRT there ARE 2 pathways INSIDE the AV-node (Dual-AV-Node) and not it like the WPW. ;-)

  • These are scary but mostly harmless in otherwise healthy people. If you have them, learn to do the valsalva maneuver. That can often stop the SVT without need for medical intervention.

  • @JDW15217 Yes, sometimes the valsalva maneuver works and it used to for me but not always. The betablockers don't work for me anymore. Mine usually last for over an hour and I am thinking of having the ablation done. My heart beats way up to 200bpm and over sometimes. It feels like I've been running a marathon and the last time this happened I had a difficult time getting fully rested afterward. It would help to know what to do to prevent this.

  • im 13 and its been a year i have it, some people say it happends anytime, like if your siting down. but me it only happends at sport... the best way to prevent it eat PASTA, lol im not kiding. i eat hambergers im screwed,it happends. i eat spagetti and it neveer hapends

  • I have had these types of attacks since I was 14. They can do a procedure called cardiac ablation. They just burn the tissue where the extra impulses are coming from in your heart and it fixes it. If they can't, you can take beta blockers or have an internal defibulator put in your chest. It shocks you when it senses an attack coming on and puts your heart back into normal rhythm. I am having my ablation July 8th. 98% successful I believe.

  • I always get this and as a result i end up fainting ALOT! but when i faint i get a realy irregular heartbeat, shallow breathing and i shake, on one occasion my hb was 231 and again i fainted due to this, if anyone knows anything cud you please help me??

    thanks xox

  • I have the same condition. You have a procedure called cardiac ablation. It cures it. I am scheduled for July 8th. This condition is caused by an electrical problem that they fix with radio frequency through a vein in your leg into your heart. It is an inovasive procedure that they are doing instead of cracking open your chest. Hope this helps. BTW, Sterndi1, I have had the same condition since I was 14 as well. I think it is triggered by puberty or something.

  • I have this rubbish since the age of 14. Wtih 29 I startet taking BETABLOCKERS to prevent it. (50mb ATENOLOL/d) Triggers are always certain body moves. Catheter ablation may heal it forever.

If your heart increases from one beat to the other and stops the same way after seconds to hours don't listen to Docs who say it's just panic attacks! But it may lead to a panic syndrome as well if you don't get a proper treatment! It's not just a fast pulse caused by nervousness. But it's treatable!:-)

  • i had svt on new years and spent my new years in hospital sucked like a bitch my heart rate was 203bpm when the ambulance picked me up!

  • yeah, i got it sometimes, really quick heart beat

  • i have suspected SVT, but it doesnt occur regularly, but the doctors have not been able 2 catch it yet, it always comes around when no ones there. I have noticed it happening recently, and been asked 2 to skydiving, this a good idea or not???

  • lol... do it i dare you!!!

  • If it starts from ONE BEAT TO THE OTHER it's a PSVT. Take a good dose of BETABLOCKERS before sky diving. Ask your doc and try first how you tolerate it. :-)

  • I have SVT and adenosine works...!! it worked on me and within seconds my HR went to normal rates..but its usually when i change my posture that triggers SVT :S

  • Start working those mitochondria overtime!

  • Ahhhh! i had a run of SVT for 4mins on friday mornin, i get it sometimes but not for that long. It usually starts when i bend down to get something, just every now and then. scaryness.

  • I am a sufferer of SVT and must admit it can be very annoying at times. I have a question for anyone that can answer and it is somewhat of an awkward question, but has anyone ever noticed that sexual stimulation especially orgasm can bring on SVT? Like I said I don't want to sound weird or anything but this happens with me alot and I am almost afraid of sex. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • SVT sometimes is triggered by adrenal discharge (adrenaline), in the sexual activity there is stimulating of simpatic system (wich is mediated by adrenaline), thats why when you have an orgasm you feel your heart beats faster (thats normal) and may be its the reason of your SVT. SVT can be triggered also by excercise or scary moments (wich have in common adrenaline discharge), may be beta-blockers like propranolol could help you, tell to your doc.

  • wait, r u sure? i'm so anxious, coz the doctor tell me it's juz panic attack, so, is svt dangerous?

  • I agree with you RYANSUCKS... And correction: adenosine, calcium channel blocker might work and it is synchronized CARDIOVERSION and not defibrillation. You might end up killing your patient.

  • I totally disagree with this tracing you know why? Paroxysmal meaning new burst seems to me patient on SVT rather than PSVT or else you need to add the prior rhythm that showing sudden change to SVT.

  • The title is in fact misleading as the rhythem shown is constant SVT. Proximal suggest that there is a visiable start or stopping point or both; which is not displayed. Yes, I'm AR like that but those are the rules of interpitation.

  • For this to be paroxysmal wouldn't the SVT need to either cease or begin within your video?

  • Technically, we'd need to see the sudden onset of the SVT to call this "Paroxysmal". Going by the video alone, this is just a regular SVT, not the elusive paroxysmal kind.

  • This is correct. Paroxysmal means sudden start, sudden stop.

  • Agreed

  • whoa..Take yoga classes?

  • lidocaine, and defib at 125-250, if patitent is conscious sedate then defib

  • start vagal maneuver..carotid massage ...then adenosine... then verampamil what the hell do some people give cardioversion ?! yes cardioversion if the patient starts to drop....

  • how bout some lidocaine!

  • i had SVT and i had an ablation in the year 2000. the doctor said theres a 95% chance it'll be gone, but it happened again in 2001 or 2002. i got an ablation then and i was fine. i dont have SVT but for years now, whenever i do anything such as exercise for maybe 5 or 10 seconds, my heart races.its not the "svt race" but its pretty fast. is this a concern? God, i've been worrying about so many things for years now...

is it a concern or is it just the fact that i've become a lot less active?

  • hmm... when u exercise no its not "svt" but like u said its very fast, so sounds to me like its sinus tachycardia?

  • I got the cardio ablation.I used to pass out from my "episodes"

  • adenosine... feeling of death in a tiny little bottle. fun times.

  • i have svt and i was just in the ER for it yesterday my BPM was 320

  • i have supra ventricular tachnicardia too and mine averages about 279 ish

  • wow! very high? nick did they give yuou lidocaine? did they give you a weak countershock?

  • yeh it is high.. they wanted me to take meds for it but i didnt wanna.. then they asked if i wanted surgery.. but canadian doctors suck... well now if i want it i have to go to toronto.. much safer surgery wise... its starting to happen less... but about every two months it kicks in again... wost thing is some mom didnt let her son invite me to his b-day cuz of it

  • if just PSVT then big deal. I've been up to 290bpm at least a couple hundred times. Maybe this is SVT but PSVT is not as dangerous. I've had max does of adenosine (6, 6, then 12 and that was no fun). I only have one every 6 months. You can have RF ablation to cure it. FYI gastritis causes vagal stimulation that pushes parasympathetic/sympathetic over the edge. Hyperthyroidism is another issue. Ask your doc for fast release beta-blocker to carry in your pocket. 2 cents as a suffer of years

  • Synchronized cardioversion. 6mg adenosine fast!!

  • Now this is gonna hurt like hell and dont touch me.

  • It didnt work...12mg Adenosine, set up for cardioversion!

  • vagal maneuver...6mg Adenosine

  • vagal maneuver...6mg Adenosine
