He died before I got the chance to tell him how much I loved him. I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life.
@nerblebun I'm so sorry for that for you. My brother recently died at 69 and played country and bluegrass all his life. His dad also played but not in clubs and bars like my brother did. His dad died when my brother was about 3 so he never knew him. I miss my brother a lot and didn't visit and stay in touch nearly enough -- regrets that tear at your heart, for sure. Maybe someone will read your and my story and take it to heart to do better......

Hard to believe the great Dan Fogelberg is gone. This man was an incredible musician and I can remember many a nights in high school, out late on a date with my steady girlfriend at the time and listening to Dan's music. I have many fond memories of this time period in my life. Thanks for the music and the good times Dan.
This is a song that could've been written for my music teacher, the gifts he gave all "his" kids were unparallelled for his entire life. He could've done anything in music and achieved fame and fortune but his love of teaching was his calling! But every single aspect of this song describes the man who still influences my life even 23 years after his passing!
Yes, Ferdzrines954, sadly his voice changed after he had throat surgery (his tonsils were removed) at almost thirty. It lowed his voice so he couldn't hit many of the high notes he could before the surgery. But he didn't get as sick as he had been before the surgery, which caused him to have to cancel some concerts. I give him credit for not allowing his pride to keep him from performing. I'll be a forever DanFan! We miss you Dan!

I live very close to the honorary Fogelberg Pkwy in Peoria. They just put a memorial down near the riverfront in Peoria also. His mom attended the event.

In 1980 I was a 10 yr old young black kid who fell in love "The Leader of the Band", I was station hopping with my dads stereo that no one was allowed to touch, and I came across a station that this song was playing and it instantly changed my life forever. To listen to "white" music was a no no in my circle of friends but in my room by myself, Dan Fogelberg influenced my musical career forever.

You are an amazing person....I like all different kinds of music and now that I have a teenager there is even some rap that I enjoy...IMO without music we would all be lost souls and music can bring us all together..

Hard to believe the great Dan Fogelberg is gone. This man was an incredible musician and I can remember many a nights in high school, out late on a date with my steady girlfriend at the time and listening to Dan's music. I have many fond memories of this time period in my life. Thanks for the music and the good times Dan.

This is a song that could've been written for my music teacher, the gifts he gave all "his" kids were unparallelled for his entire life. He could've done anything in music and achieved fame and fortune but his love of teaching was his calling! But every single aspect of this song describes the man who still influences my life even 23 years after his passing!

Yes, Ferdzrines954, sadly his voice changed after he had throat surgery (his tonsils were removed) at almost thirty. It lowed his voice so he couldn't hit many of the high notes he could before the surgery. But he didn't get as sick as he had been before the surgery, which caused him to have to cancel some concerts. I give him credit for not allowing his pride to keep him from performing. I'll be a forever DanFan! We miss you Dan!

my mom loved this song and Dan, she passed away while I was in basic training for the military, right before I went into special operations selection. . I wish I could share my success and victories with her today.

my grandfather was a real hero. everybody went to him for advices and help not only within our family, but also almost the entire community. we sang this during his funeral, and i remembered myself hugging my baby and almost sitting on the floor crying..i miss my grandfather so much..i love you, lolo ... I live very close to the honorary Fogelberg Pkwy in Peoria. They just put a memorial down near the riverfront in Peoria also. His mom attended the event.

Dad died doing spiritual warfare against the AntiChrist Spirit but he did not have back up support- I had Jaeson- he didn't. He also knew ahead of time his assignment. He is a military man. This makes me cry every single time. My dad always picks me up from school and everytime we hear this on the radio, I try so hard not to cry. I secretly dedicate this song to him (He'd call me dramatic if he knew LOL) and everytime I hear it, I just can't help but think about him even if he's sitting right beside me in the car.

When I met my husband and firwst married, I played this song for him...2 years later we had a beautiful little girl. And now like her father plays guitar beautiful and she is only 9. I played this for her and said.."learn this one for me and your Dad." I expect in a few days, she will come down the stairs having learned it and lay for all.....and for me it will be like watching the torch pass from one generation to the other....Amazing what a simple song can represent.
