  • con--------trary to popular belief i can assure you this is not a original emg wilson horn gramophone.. in fact its a hmv 510 which was procured from a london auction house circa 1992 the machine in question had a damaged beyond repair lumiere pleating not to mention a very bad varnished paint job. .. this machine realised at auction 1,200 uk sterling. due to its condition.. IT then was frankenphoned a week later in a cardington lock up with original seymour and wilson etc fittings

  • @mrseymourwilsonginn More rubbish from the SHOESNIGGING RING MEMBER - this is TOTALLY genuine - it uses a UNIQUE tonearm MADE to be fixed the way it does - I proved that with the POrtable EMG see MY FORUM

THE CLPGS is full of FRaudsters and CROOKS

  • i was wondering colonel what the gramophone expert mr c proudfoot would make of it?? i understand he is a leading light in the gramophone world. . ..i also believe he is a authority on vintage lawnmowers .and as been interviewed by the daily newspaper ( independent 21st aug 95 ) when asked the question to why collect lawnmowers ? he replied ........................i do find them attractive.!........................................ which begs the question more than is wife. .......

  • hi colonel im trying to locate a copy of a early victor 78 record matrix number cc197986 . the song titles are as follows .......a side.........( i love my lawnmowers more than my wife ) b side........()..all my friends are rogues and crooks ) the vocal refrain i believe is the( rev christopher proud trench foot ) PS .... HE DOES ON EARLIER DISCS PLAYS THE FIDDLE !

  • gosh! i i do draw the line at anyone who as a taste for womens feet not to mention know alls who live in thames ditton who purport to be gramophone experts yet in the very next instance miss the ist emg external horn gramophone ever made

  • do they have this model in thames ditton ??

  • @SIMONCOWELD No, they woudn't understand it there !

  • @SIMONCOWELD Strangely the "Leading Dealer" when Viewing the Roger Thorne Auction (and when not shouting "He's Insane, He's Insane" ) was shouting loudly that this machine wasn't Genuine and "I know who made it " I didn't realise that The Leading dealer was THAT OLD ! He was also on the 'phone promising a half - witted Friend that he would be able to buy the Xb for under £3500 (THEY DIDN'T) He was also spotted at a Pub Later with the Foot Fetishist and other "Cronies"

  • hey colonel have you got the hmv furtwangler beethoven 9th choral 78 records . that would sound superb on the emg .

  • oh beeeeeeee jesus! madam i dont take returns however in the van i have a rare hornless 102 hmv minus handle would you concider a swop for the decca trench

  • oh colonel a chappy at the last peterboro fair said the grange oxford was a care home for dementia sufferers. the gentleman concerned had snow white hair and spoke with a irish tinker brogue he also sold gramophones ..anyway i didnt believe a word he was saying . anyway whilst i was there a lady turned up with a gramophone she had bought from him the year before . she wanted her money back . the gramophone was a decca trench . however the motor was a columbia . he told her it was original ..

  • @SIMONCOWELD Id that "Chappy" say to the lady : "Ahhhh T's One from Me Own Collection so 'tis " (Whist not bothering to cover the label from a recent auction he had bought it from !)

  • hey colonel you have contradicted yourself. one minute you stated the nimbus horn recordings using the nimbus horn were awful prima vice you likened the sound as if singing in the bath yet now you leave comment stating the g rankin horn is fantatic

  • @SIMONCOWELD Not at all ! - it's all to do with the position of the microphone, in the Nimbus recordings the Microphone was far too close (if not actually IN the horn) in an enclosed space, whilst Graham recorded in his garden quite a distance away and thus you have a superbe recording unlike the Nimbus records.

Graham also used a decent EMG soundbox and EMG tonearm unlike Nimbus - and Nimbus used two horns - the other was giant and far too big and only enhanced the echos

  • did your portable emg sell or do you still have it, also if you still have the records could you play the grumbler song or the trail of the lonesome pine on the conversion, they would sound interesting

  • @kirtley2010 The Portable did sell but i do still have the records and will repeat them on here

  • are there only one of these machines in the world or did they make many

  • @kirtley2010 I have done a detailed article on my forum and NOW believe that it may be the only one - it was CERTAINLY the first

  • @EMGColonel could you send me a link to that forum, i would like to read that

  • @kirtley2010 U - Tube won't allow one so i'll put it on the description

  • That's a rare sighting of the undoubtably two rarest EMG's in existence, sitting side by side to keep each other company! One's saying to the other: "So where did they dig you up from?" The other replies: "You better not steal the show!"

  • What a spectacular machine, and a delightful demonstration. Wish I were there to hear it in person, though YouTube is quite satisfactory for the present.

  • fantastic sound!! wow, just blows you away don't it. and with that goodson record, none of that shelac hiss.... perfect job and rare machine too :)

  • Fascinating machine!

  • Magnificent sound!

  • @Boywander2001 Thanks - I daren't use the Meltrope 3 as i would have had complaints from the town - half a mile away

  • i would give everything i own to own this machine its just fantstic

  • The timing seems all wrong for this lumiere conversion.

  • @chunnybh Ask Frank - He knows it's genuine - but i hear you have already

  • so correct me if i am wrong but emginn got the hmv 510 took off the lumiere horn and the lid and constructed his own lid which included the emg soundbodx and tonearm with the fitting to add one of his huge horns and then just renamed it as a emg + would you be able to add a horn like your expert horn or old 10a horn

  • @kirtley2010 Mr Ginn was shown the Wilson horn - and couldn't fit it too his then models SO - using redundant HMV 510 and 460 (lumiere) models he removed the Lumiere and fitteds this new lid with the Wilson/Seymour tonearm turned upside down and teh NEW EMG soundbox with Meltrope back (Patented 1927) (but to cover himself made it so that the old lid and lumiere could be re - fitted if the customer wanted it - and no this horn Won't fit the 10A or the Expert - the lids get in the way

  • @EMGColonel very interesting, would your expert horn fit on this emg

  • @kirtley2010 No - as it's a different sized casting - BUT for many years this machine actually had an EMG Mk 10b on it so it will take the large EMG horns

  • Colonel you are the master. I was so sad when the old board went down and we lost access to pictures of this great gramophone. Now we also get to hear it. BRAVO!

  • @Damfino59 BUT the pictures are still there ! just look under EMG and "Rarest EMG" - it's the post right at the bottom of the list

  • @EMGColonel Indeed they are! So many ups & downs with the forums in the past I had just assumed this was one of the casualties. Silly me. You Brits are fortunate to be located to the source of these hand-made gramophones. I'm just happy to drool over the pictures in the James book.

  • @Damfino59 I hope that soon a successor book may be embarked upon which will enlarge teh knowledge of this subject and have numerous good quality pictures - and have pictures of the Virtz, Wild, Meltope and other soundboxes

  • VERY interesting and instructive video. Thank you kindly.
