I think the problem here is not necessarily because of generation gap. It depends on one's personality. Some people just don't have that urge to socialise with people (especially with complete strangers). I think the key point here is when Hall says the internet is used for information. But if that is used for letting the world know every now and then of what you are doing, it becomes trivial and risky sometimes. I think that's the essence of what Hall and Oates were trying to say.

I want real friends, not cyber friends... and the only people I tweet with are the birds in my neighborhood. I guess I've got a "generational divide" also (actually, I think it's more of an intellectual one... however, I'm not sure it explains my life on YouTube really... hmmmm. I'll have to ponder that one.
