  • my family and i will be in new orleans in a few days time, i can't wait to get there and shop around etc, its going to be wonderful :D

  • Continued... the Garden District features block after block of stunning homes, and Uptown is just as pretty in my opinion. Mid-City around Bayou Saint John is also very lovely, and the Bywater has a fun bohemian vibe to it, with brightly painted homes. Go to New Orleans, but don't stay in the Quarter the whole time. It's the most touristy part of the city and there's so much to the city than that.

  • New Orleans was founded by the French in 1718, but the architecture of the French Quarter is actually predominantly Spanish, since the original city burned in a fire in the late 18th century and was rebuilt when Spain owned it. It has always been a cosmopolitan place, though, and most people who hail from here have all kinds of European and/or African blood in their veins. Contrary to what some have said, there are many neighborhoods in New Orleans that are as beautiful as the French Quarter.

  • @ete4 The spanish weren't in new orleans, napoleon sell the lousiana in 1812

  • @espana00091 Not true. The Spanish controlled Louisiana from 1764 (roughly the end of the Seven Years War) to 1800, before selling it back to the French. Napoleon turned around and sold it to the U.S. in 1803. From that point, it was a U.S. territory, but 1812 is when Louisiana (the smaller state that exists today) became a U.S. state.

The architecture of the French Quarter *is* predominately Spanish. Many streets in the city, like Carondelet and Galvez, were named after Spanish governors.

  • @ete4 Thank you! People don't even realize that there are enclave cultures where the language is not "Creole" but a certain dialect from Spain.

  • @ete4

New Orleans never been spaniard, it was french, until we sold it in 1812

  • born and raised

  • Been to the FQ twice -- loved it.

The 1st time I was there, I thought I was on an island in the Carribean. It feels so different from any other US city.

  • @LittleAFactor I live right outside of New Orleans and I highly recommend moving here. You just have this feeling when your downtown that you can't get anywhere else. The city has a spirit about it and I have yet to meet a person who hasn't loved it!

  • just went there. it's beautiful and a drastic change from usual! gotta love it:)

The place is sooo nice in the day, the ghost tours are great the graveyards are awesome and the night life is second to none. Hand grenades and hurricanes are awesome and the french quarter hotel is fucking sweet.

  • @spidergal777 beautiful city lol ? you must live in the best neighborhood that city has

  • @MrSouthphillyitalian No bro. Entire city is beautiful.

  • @PKKTroll What ? ROFL

  • @MrSouthphillyitalian When you only look at the physical appearance of the entire city, I suppose you could say some of it looks like some hot ghetto shit (and not all of it is bc katrina lmao). Look more at the culture, the history, and the architecture of the city. It's beautiful.

  • @PKKTroll Not better than philly we are the birthplace of america, so much more history in my opinion

  • @MrSouthphillyitalian Well, that's your opinion. And in mine, I don't really think it matters. New Orleans, Philly, San Francisco, Chicago... These cities and more hold the nation's history in their streets and all should be respected equally.

  • @PKKTroll I can respect that

  • @MrSouthphillyitalian

would you shut up? no one asked you to watch the video or to give your opinion. yeah it has it's bad points but what place doesn't? point is i'm true to my home and i don't appreciate you making such a rude comment. so stay in philly. no one cares.

  • enjoy yourself, Teri...

you don't need to taunt me but with the thoughts swirling in my head that finally, finally, you'll wear what i bought for you, but not for me, for him on Hallowe'en. Damn.

  • Going to have a wonderful time, enjoying the sites, the history. Its nice knowing people that can suggest things to see, where to go where tourists dont go. Halloween attire is in the works! Sighhhhh!

  • enjoy yourself, teresa.

  • Will be there Halloween, and birthday, Oct 28, 2009! Care to share more? Everglades, Haunted mansions, just enjoying the history of the wonderful city!! Cant come too soon! Boutbon Street after dark, mmmmmmm,, sounds like fun!

  • wife and i just spent 3 days in the french quarter. we loved it. the quarter is beautiful. all the old achitecture and the gas lamps burning at night, give it a totally different atmosphere than anywhere else we've been. and bourbon street after dark, when the clubs open up....what a party! hehe

  • @Hharl1 do they speak french there or its all about the architecture ?

  • @electrikevin It's the language too. They speak French Creole, or Cajun French. Not everybody does, but the old-timers do, and some of the young folk too, I'd imagine.
