  • All that is missing is the clakety-clack whirring sound of the big old two-reeled movie projector :) which I remember vividly! Wonderful stuff!

  • cybercharvideo :)

  • awesome!!!

  • I like the 'flying saucer' hat...OMG! I am out of toilet paper!!!

  • Love it!

  • Lovely.

  • is this the way all women dressed in 1952? i thought they did atleast wear pants back then.

  • thank you vmax135 for posting this! what a classic.

A couple of observations:It's important to note that the small cages for these creatures are definately not used anymore..that's good. What I also noticed is that people are constantly feeding the animals. That was definately allowable back in the day(even when I was a kid in the late 60s/early 70s)I don't think most zoos would allow that anymore.

Great footage of your family..wow, I wish my family took film/video back in the day.

  • I am trying to restore an old 60's footage from my family. Which program do you recommend to do it? I have Mac&PC&Linux. Thanks.

  • For the editing as well as video and color restorations, I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 9.0. A good portion of the final quality for the restoration depends on the original quality of the film source and the digital transfer you use... but I've been really happy with Vegas to handle the corrections.

  • @vmax135

Hi, I had my 8mm home movies transferred onto a video tape about 10 years ago. Then a few years ago I paid to have it put onto a dvd. Ive never uploaded anything to youtube. Id like to upload a few sections (the family at a famous Drive-in movie that doesnt exist anymore). Do you know how I can upload only a several minute segment from a dvd? I googled it but Im confused.

  • @westminsterjg did you ever get an answer to this? same boat as you

  • LOVE the hats. wow.....people got dressed up to go to the park? man, times have changed. i wouldnt dress that good for a funeral. if it werent illegal, i wouldnt even put on boxers to get the newspaper. thanks for the post.

  • I was only two months old!

Today, if you take your child to the new NYT building, it's to warn them how to easy it is to destroy a company by drowning it in debt.

  • Very nice video. Everyone was dressed so elegantly.

  • Why can't people these days dress like that. The clothes they're wearing in this video seem much more appropriate for a lovely stroll in the park then what people wear to the park these days

  • This is great! :) I love the hats, it's a shame people don't wear hats anymore!

  • aaahhh men i suits... women in dresses. this is the time i wanted to live in. 50's nd 60's are my 2 favorite eras to liv in soo simple. thanks for the video i enjoyed it alot!!! :D

  • nice job!

  • the women look like lois lane

  • I really enjoyed watching this, thanks for putting it up! The way everybody is dressed is the most interesting part of this to me. People don't dress nicely anymore imo, this is soooo refreshing to see. We could learn a thing or two from the people back then.

  • Thanks Louise! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I agree, people were more elegant in their dress back then. Something we really lack in today's world.

  • i like this film

wasnt new york quite rough in those days

  • No. My uncle would take us to Central Park. It was absolutely beautiful and safe. We'd go for a row boat ride and the zoo. During other visits he'd take us to the NYTimes Building and Horn & Hardarts - we always had so much fun.

  • It's amusing to see the women all dolled up in dresses and hats! You should try adding music to your old home movies. Check out my videos to see how much more interesting they are with music.

  • Oh my gosh. Hats, Heels, and gloves for a casual walk in the park. Today you'd pajama pants, flipflops, and mp3's.

  • You're so right. =^) It must've taken forever to get ready in the 50's...haha.

  • NEW YORK IS JUST AWSOME!

  • Just got done watching old 8mm family movies for the 1st time :) Mom from the 50's and her mother in the 30's-40's. We gotta get those on DVD somehow! The projector wasn't working right at first and cut off a few inches here and there, haha.

  • Thanks for commenting Ryan. Your family's old home movies sound cool, if you ever get them posted on YouTube let me know, I'd love to check them out.

  • Not enough women wear hats today.

  • Haha... you're too funny. I think you should get your mom and grandma hats for the holidays.
