How great to find this. Robin Hall and Jimmy MacGregora where my first ever introduction to guitar-based live music, back in early 1962 on the tonight program..., they were my inspiration, resulting in my parents buying me my first acoustic guitar and granting me a life-long career in music. So, at last I can now say thanks to both Robin and Jimmy, as if in person.... thankyou, and r.i.p. Robin.
The ultimate class act. Tonight was an excellent shpw, and they were always absolutely superb, in their whole prescence and partnership and music. They also insoired me to sing.
thank you so much for these videos. When i looked up Robin and Jimmy i didn't expect anything would come up, but i was very pleasantly surprised. Our family used to love listening to their records (of which i have 2 only, don't know how many they did. Anyway, my mum who was born in Edinburgh and passed away in June, was also a big fan. Do you have any other videos or songs by them? It is so much appreciated, thanks!
Our whole family have been big fans of Jimmie and Rob for the last 17 years since a friend gave me an anonymous tape of their music recorded off a late night radio show here in New Zealand. We have been singing and playing their music ever since but didn't know who they were till my son tracked them down on the net. Serendipitously, just this week we found, the very LP we had the tape of, in a box of old records in a second-hand shop. . Truly, it was like finding the Holy Grail!
thank goodness for youtube. I have been trying to find out for a while what happened to Robin Hall and Jimmy McGregor since I was their devoted fan from the Tonight shows. I was upset to find that Robin Hall had passed away. I remember their music with much fondness and great memories. I still have many of their records which I play often
The memories indeed! I don't if I feel better or just older. Those were the days...........Dixon of Dock Green, Robin Hood, Liberace,The Rag Trade, Andy Pandy, Hancock and so on............
Oh in the name of the wee man! "Fitba' Crazy" at the start. Even Jimmy MacGregor told me he doesn't have a copy of it anymore and was trying to get hold of it. If anyone is in the Oran Mor in Byres Road at lunchtime and sees Jimmy - tell him it is on You Tube!
I used to have the programme on video, it got passed around and never found its way back. It would be fantastic to have the full version again. I am new to youtube so am not quite sure how one goes about this.
I can send you the full program (only 15 minutes long unfortunately) which I have copied to DVD. Please let me have your address and I will send this to you.
Sitting here far away in Singapore feeling a wee it homesick, remembering my first LP Glasgow Street songs and my favourie Ludgin' wi Big Aggie ...and found this !
Loved your Dad and this stuff still hits me like a Swig of Irn bru and a Lee's Macarron on a frosty morning !
Just listening makes me homesick for my Scottish childhood, thanks so much for posting this. Am now a London exile but always sang my kids to sleep with Coulters Candy
Memories!! Coming from the continent, we were Scotland-mad in the early sixties. Dancing in St Andrews, we attended an evening with Robin and Jimmy, very intimate and charming.
I remember watching Robin and Jimmy on TV in the 60's - The White Heather Club I think it was. I didn't appreciate them at the time - except maybe for "fitba crazy" - but looking at this video I'm thinking what great singers and players they were. Scots everywhere owe them a debt for popularising those old songs and helping to keep the culture alive. Thank you both!
Wonderful. I was looking for the old song "We're sailing" and chanced on this film. Great.

Hope Alec got the video. This is very nostalgic stuff to all us born in the late 40's early fifties. I enjoy it every time I play it.
