  • MINE IS MSI WIND BUT IT'D WHITE NOT BLACK AND I DONT KNOW WHAT VERSION IT IS AS IT JUST SAYS JUST ABOVE KEYBOARD MSI WIND NETBOOK I PAID £100 FOR IT YESTERDAY 10.6.2011

  • im quad booting my wind (android, ubuntu, windows, os x) and its awesome!

  • Heey that was very decent, I only got to know where the wireless card is in a Laptop, just now. Thanks a lot for that!

  • can anyone help me,i have one one these,i put an extra 1gb stick in,then it did not boot so i shut down removed it,now hard drive and fans spin up but nothing on the screen, strange,i would appreciate any help

  • If you ask me, this computer isn't very well made. I've owned it for a year and it is missing four screws, the screen is cracked, the battery has already quit working and been replaced, and now, the charger quit working.

  • you're scary man

  • Comparing Asus 701 and MSI WIND is kinda wrong.

  • the fuck do you need to speak into a mic that fucking big for.

  • i f**king love my wind, the ONLY problem is the stupid period key, its like 3/4 the size of a normal key....this gets SO annoying when you need to type a lot..other than that its perfect in every way..paid $300 for the msi wind-u123-004us(think thats right), the thing gets me horny its so awesome.

  • get osx running on your PC

    hackbookproject . co . uk

  • You are so gangsta man.

  • I have the medion akoya 1212 (its the same as the wind) and i run windows 7 with arow and ive got 2 gb of ram and the medion is with a 160 gb drive good enough it cost €329 and you get 3 year warenty beat that crap book air

  • Dude you need a bigger microphone the one have barely covers your head

  • @kalosanin Hahaha "dude you need a bigger microphone" too funny =)

  • Im using MSI wind the same one it is really fast on loading things

  • my xps m1530 will shit on your netbook and its 5 pounds 15 inches.

  • in the new msi u123 does it void the warrenty if you up grade it to 2gb?

  • Hi, I have a wind u123, and I have a problem with my camera. I already got easy face manager, and crazy talk camera suite. the only problem is that the camera cant be activated. I tried the hot key (Fn + F6), then it pops up as its working in the lower left corner of my screen, but I cant see it in MyComputer. nor is the light by the camera on. Please I love this netbook, and it is amazing. please if anyone has any advice, please feel free to reply. thanks much!

  • why are you reading of cue cards?

  • Dude, i have OSx86 10.5.6 and got the wireless working in under 15 minutes! "MSi OSX86 Upgrade Pack v1.5" Check it out, but without the quotes

  • Poor review. No one wants to see your face when talking about a netbook. Point the camera on the machine. Also the review itself leaves out a lot of essential stuff.

  • ok?? Your thesis is very unclear, and please cite your sources.

  • u lost ur objectivity... talk like an adult... and stop whinning like a kiddo fag...

  • just so people know upgrading the ram does not void the warranty any more. Im unsure of the network card but the ram does not. Also I found the 160g hd version of the U100 on amazon for less than 300 bucks now...lol I never thought id get a laptop/netbook when I started looking with as much power and hd space as the wind offers for such a low price. Long live msi!! Lmao

  • agreed i would never had been seen dead with a sub notebook sized pc but this little baby is well speced for the price and i have the 160 gb u100 version with the turbo mode activated with 2gb ram upgrade and it nearly runs as fast as my presario cq60 full sized notebook, it even boots faster, and ive already triple booted it with stock xp, vista and linux mint and it runs sweet on all 3 os's

    fab little thing :)

  • you run mac osx on it??

  • Yes he does. MSI Winds are great hackintosh's

  • he talks so much=.=

  • that's what he should do , it's a kind of review not an unboxing

  • Man that mic kicks hiney. He needs to get that unit mounted to his head, like a helmet

  • I've got boom envy...

  • wtf that microphone doesnt need you right next to it to pick up sound

  • 3:45

LOL thats not how I roll

    Great review. Thanks

    *****

  • sweet graph...also, its pronounced "a-soose", not "ay-sus"

  • Msi no longer voids the waranty for upgrading ram.Just thought id let you know.

  • are u sure? how do u kno they dont void it anymore? cause im plannin on gettin a wind. and i wanted to change the ram to 2gb so i can run vista on it.. so can u reply plz?

  • i heard it in another video concerning the wind and running vista on a netbook well goodluck with that.

  • They doesn't void the warranty. I got in contact with them and they told as long as I only change the ram they will still cover warranty. Anyway it was already done when I contacted them :)

  • change it to 2gb ram .. but don't run vista .. it will slow the wind .. upgrade to 7 ..

  • can you get os x on the wind?

  • yep , i saw some videos on it

  • Great review... I wasn't convinced whether to buy this or a dell (yeh yeh dell sucks) but they were near the same price (under 400 @ wal-mart) Thanks!

(BTW I typed this easily.... And I have a fat ass....;)

  • What's up with that big as microphone all in your mouth?

  • well "your" gonna have grammar issues. Learn English better.

  • grammar police.he mistaked one letter.you still understood him you moron.

  • Lol, the microphone is almost invisible ;) Seriously man - there are other ways to record the sound....

  • You can upgrade the RAM. You ring MSI telling them you're doing it and they'll send you a new sticker. the components on the inside have anti void stickers so they know you haven't tampered

  • Could I do an online correspondence course on this netbook. or would that be to much for it to handle?

  • It will be able to do 3000 correspondence courses it's very fast

  • good review

  • Does anyone know where to get the MSI Wind in Canada?

  • walmart might have them

or any big electronic retail store

  • walmart bro...just got mine today from walmart their are only 350$ there too

  • Thanks, brilliant review, this has really helped me make my mind up

  • Good Review..I will buy MSI Wind

  • good reivew. You guys do a great job. very professional and accessible.

  • Good review. Helpful to see both Asus and Wind together

  • After watching this review, i wanted to buy the MSI wind. And also, I wanted to buy a microphone such as this one....

  • That is one dizzy microphone. Thanks for the review!

  • Upgrading the Ram does not void the Warranty, if you contact MSI they will tell you this

  • let him talk with whatever he wants!

thats not the point of the review!

  • Trzeba bylo sobie wiekszy mikrofon wziasc bo cos nie wyraznie slychac

  • nice review

  • Was that OSX?

    lol

  • for such a big microphone, it really didnt sound too good :/

  • I think because it doean't use that filter singers and radio hosts huse (like a plate between the mouth and mic).

But that does seem like an overkill mic. Maybe he does pro radio, podcasts or something like that.

PS. Thanks for the detail review on the MSI Wind. :)

  • Was that OS X at 4:09? Or Ubuntu with an OSX theme?

  • Im getting the Wind for 300!

  • where???

  • just opened mine up, taking a bit for the first system boot.but damn, this thing feels great!!!!

  • lol, thats not how I roll

  • The microphone is the size of Jupiter, hence "Jupiter Broadcasting"

    I get it!

  • "I had to do it. I..... 1 gig?

That's not enough for me. That's not how I role."

    haha classic

  • One would hope that, with a microphone as fucking huge as that, it wouldn't be necessary to hold it so close to ones face? mental moustache as well!

I have no opinion on the notebook...

  • LMFAO!

  • This might sound a bit petty but these notebooks look so cheap. It would be good if they made it look cooler.

  • my MSI came with win xp home

  • is ur damn microphone bigenough

  • which one is better??

    Asus - Eee PC Netbook with Intel® Atom™ Processor N270 - Black $329.99 bestbuy 10" 1gb 160gb

    blutooth enable

    Q2 - MSI Wind Netbook with Intel® Atom™ Processor N270 $329.99 bestbuy 10.1" 1gb 160gb no bluetooth

  • from what you wrote asus wins with the bluetooth. you can install mac osx on both of them 2 if you prefer that os

  • The HP mini has the best form factor of any other netbook made. The design is amazing and it has a nice full-sized keyboard. I just bought one and I'm about to install OS X Leopard on it. EEE PC= really lame.

  • Good luck on installing osx, i installed it on 2 pc's 1st on an amd using voodoo kernel 9.5 then on an core2duo Acer laptop using the original vanilla kernel, they all worked fine (tried kalway 10.5.2, ideneb4, iaktosv5 and ipc 10.5.6, and think ipc is the best). imo the hp one is prettier too, looks more high-end, their custom interface for ubuntu is very stylish too, gloss black. but then the hp is more expensive then the asus in my country the asus costs €400 and the hp is sold for €525.

  • thnx! cause im planning to buy one on my bday hehe

do you have any reccomendation? netbook 10" +??

    under $350

    thnx alot

  • if i had to buy one for me it be the msi wind but sadly it is more then $350 about 500, i would have gone for it because it has an excellent battery life, a 5400rpm sata hard disk, and it also has an overclock button, whcih you can use to increase its performance when needed. cheapest i know of is the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 around $440 it has a larger hard disk then the msi but its battery life is of 2hrs only.

  • I would buy the EEE since it's easier to upgrade memory (RAM) and has bluetooth, other then that I have a MSI Wind (U90) and works gr8. Windows XP Home SP3 runs fast, some older games runs full 60 FPS... It's an awsome pc. If you do web browsing and stuff like that a lot go for MSI Wind. If you will need more RAM and Bluetooth go for EEE. That's my opinion.

  • I bought msi wind from newegg and it has a bluetooth plus to add ram in EEE you have to take off the keyboard while in wind its just the back cover.

  • The EeePc is onlyl upgradable to 1.5 gigabytes of memory. So getting the MSI Wind would be a much better deal. They are also more attractive computers and they also come with webcams and bluetooth. In my opinion the EeePc sucks.

  • I wasn't sure about EEE. But upgrading Wind voids your warranty (that sucks). Don't know about the EEE so I can't say.

  • Nope...it does NOT void the warranty. I (as well as several others) have contacted MSI about this and they said that it does NOT void the warranty. Not sure why they still put the sticker on it, though. Should have asked them why they still put it on.

  • Not all Winds come with bluetooth. Mine doesn't AND it came with the b/g wireless card, not the b/g/n. You have to pay VERY close attention to the specs to be sure you're ordering what you want. Different HDD sizes, different features, you just have to pay close attention to what you're ordering. If all else fails, email the seller and make sure your getting what you're seeing. I didn't notice the no bluetooth and only b/g on mine before ordering, but i'm still VERY happy, so it's all good, lol.

  • Believe me. The one I was looking at did have bluetooth and a b/g/n wireless card. Besides, I didn't get the Wind after all, I got a Dell XPS series laptop.

  • Dude.. can you do a review on ur mic.. thats a mean mic..!

  • Yep I have, check my channel. Thx!

    -Chris

  • very good review! thanks

  • "One gig pfft thats not how I roll"

    lmfao

    Great review

  • should i buy this laptop???

does this laptop cooler than the other mini laptop??

  • I don't know about cool, but it's fairly highly rated for the price I guess.

  • you have to get it to a shop to upgrade than the waranty isn't void :D (new sticker)

  • why the big microphone why not get a webcam oh nice vid how much did you get the wind for and where did you buy it?

  • the q2 sites list the 3 cell model for 350 USD and 6 cell for 430 USD...bestbuy lists the 3 cell for 350 USD as well.

  • You can also purchase the MSI wind at Costco but they only offer the 3 cell model and you'll probably have to get it shipped. I bought mine from Newegg. Get the 6 cell for $430.

  • is there anyway u can go to a website or something and download OS X or Vista? If there is, Do u know any websites?

  • how is windows on the msi wind? did u say that u can upgrade windows to mac?

  • It comes pre-loaded with Windows XP, which I hear runs quite well. I did not use it.

From what I know, Linux, OS X, and Windows XP all run really well on the MSI Wind. I have heard Vista is possible, but slow.

  • I got my Wind and I love it so far. For the warranty, I've never been able to get a clear statement on that. Some people say it does void it, some say you just need to get permission. Some say you need to take it to an authorized seller (I live in Miami, so I'm lucky to have 2 in my area). And some say there's no problem at all. I guess it's case to case?

  • Great Video, and just to add I just bought one of these because it is essentially the cheapest macbook on the market, its being called the "Hackbook Wind" or "Hackbook mini". To answer some of your questions it runs Xp and OSX perfectly and I have seen it run Vista, but idk why you would even put it on there. Great Comp, runs software and videos perfectly. I use it as my main computer (upgraded to 2gb ram, and 160 gb hd) cheap and easy but it was fast even before I did that.

  • Can this run Photoshop fine?

  • Ya, but the screen is a kind of small. It does have an external VGA hookup tho.

  • im getting a wind and im waitin for it to be delivered...does it work with windows vista??

  • he talked pretty heavily on that so i would think it does

  • What kind of load can it handle before lagging? I understand a netbook is designed for blogging, e-mail, instant messaging and the like, but how does it do with videos? or even NetFlix instant viewing?

  • thx for the review..

But do you have to speak into such a big Phallus hehe.. just kidding.. but it is a bit annoying to look at

  • "Phallus" LOL.. Big Mic is there for the audio version of the video, so it still sounds good. More and more will be done with out it as folks transition from the audio version, to the video version

  • okay cheers man :D, nice to see you take a joke.

Hey, i have ordered a msi wind and waiting for it :D.. a self bought xmas present :P

  • Good choice! Great machine, really been happy with it, when I can pry it out of my wives hands to play with it for a bit! (That really sounds wrong...)

  • Brilliant review/in depth look.

    Thanks

  • MSI has said that you do not void the warranty by upgrading the memory or HD. But if something happens during installation they won't support it. But if you drop it or something like that. Then its fully supported under the warranty.

  • can you watch porn on it lol ?

  • yeah dude... youporn..redtube.. pornhub... they all work great.

  • lol thanks man might as well as call it portable porn

  • That's not a bad sales angle.

  • dude, thats why i bought it

  • @6:32 or u can just get a USB Wifi adapter

  • So, I don't really care for OSX, but damn do I want one of those netbooks. I don't know what I would use it for though.. still, Awesome stuff. By the way: Aren't you just a tiny bit worried that Apples will have their lawyers knock on your door? :)

  • The MSI wind doesn't run OSX, it runs Linux.

  • It can run OSX, but it comes stock with XP or Linux.

  • Fantastic review! My Lady is a hard core Apple FanGirl and she's been wanting a light weight sub-notebook.

  • Thanks for giving me buyer's remorse, chris. I picked up an Aspire One a couple months ago, now I wish I hadn't.

Now, I know you said it's a gift for your wife, and you've got OS X on there and everything, but I'd still like to know how the stock OS is on there. I believe I heard it's SLED? If I ever get another netbook, I'm definitely going to get something with a REAL operating system on it out of the box (none of that Linpus Linux Lite or Xandros nonsense).

  • Stock OS for the Wind in the US is Windows XP Home :-( Took that off ASAP, powered it on just to see for sure it was XP, then formatted the drive promptly.

  • ugh.

that makes me a sad panda.

  • Sorry Chris, but comparing the 701 to the Wind is comparing apples and oranges, comparing the Wind to the 1000 would be the way to go and actually interesting. But then again: $350? That is the 3 cell battery model, isn't it?

  • Yeah I mostly agree. But the main point was the price vs. what you get.

It is the 3 Cell, though I am told 6 an 9 cells are on the way. Current battery lasts about and hour and half (with wifi and full screen brightness). Not horrible, not amazing though.

  • Is that leopard i saw on your wind chris?.

  • Yeah, the Wind was a gift for my wife, who is a Mac user. I just don't care for Mac prices, and they don't have a Netbook. I do own a legal copy of OS X for the Wind though.

  • Just thought i noticed that. i have ran leopard on other hardware also, surprisingly it does well. I cannot get 10.5 to run on my HP Mini-Note, not a biggie, the Fedora 10 runs like a DREAM on it. Apple makes a good OS, its just so dang closed.

  • Great job Chris!

  • Good review! But I still like the Dell Mini 9 better.
