the TU144 needed re-heat to keep supersonic, unlike concorde which could stay supersonic without. The USA some years back pressed A TU144 for research into supersonic flight. Still ahead :) Kelly J was a legend. His motto was no meeting more then 10 people. no meeting longer then 1/ 2 hr and if you can do it - ill back you all the way. if you cant - you should go! Is how he got the A12 done in 3 yrs! Irony of the A12 and SR71 was all the titanium was bought from Russia!
The Tupolev TU144 was invented and constructed based upon windtunnels trials. It appeared that the Delta shape is the only durable. The jet pylons are placed close vs Concord are placed wide. Might be the reason why the TU144 needs canards alongside the 'head'. The Tu144 had a slightly higher speed but made more noise and had shorter range. Still to me it's the ultimate aviation program by Tupolev. If you have any dought study Tupolev - he was a genius and a head of his time - Just like Kelly J.
It isn't a fighter, but there is an issue with the Tu-144LL, which has engines from Russian fighter aircraft in it, and they don't want it flying out of Russian borders.
The TU144 is just a copy of the Concorde, like the TU-4 was a copy of the B-29 and the LI2 was a copy of the DC-3. Russians copy airplanes they don't design them.
TU144 was not a copy, it was designed by tupolev and only tupolev, BAe started the push to do so though. Tu4 was designed TO BE a duplicate! in WW2, the US wouldn't allow the S.U to get some B29s, so when a couple made Emergency Landings in the SU, they dismantled one and made a complete duplicate, because they desperatly needed one like the B29. The Li2 was certified BY DOUGLAS and was a copy, so that the USSR could build them themselves, rather than Douglas. Get your facts straight boy. >:(
This is very old footage of the great Tu-144. In background you see RA77114 which became the Tu-144LL. It was in airworthy condition when I promoted it in 2001. We had a serious buyer with cash in escrow. Unfortunately too many decision makers in Russia kept Prof. Pukhov's project from flying again. It was unfortunate, and cost me a lot of money and time. My heart is ok these days, since Russia became one of the USA's prime suppliers of helicopters and airplanes in Afghanistan.
CCCP-77114 became the Tu-144LL and is registered R77114.
The CCC-77115 was the last completely built Tu-144 (a Tu-144D). This aircraft was partly restored and appear with a brand new paint at MAKS 07. Some people say it could be airworthy after a a C-Check!!
once again, facts beyond the thought, Tu-144 came out year before Concorde, so its imposible that we stole the blueprints, if there was any blueprints at all, and as jany said, those shapes are only solution for supersonic flying object.
and what so bad in soviets after all, comunism help them to stay hard between so many enemies that was hating russia since king Ivan Grozniy. at least they was stabbing you in the chest, not in the back then smiling widely and saying "its not me, its not me"
But to be fair the russians did always like to be one up on the west, and were very fond of there espianage and spy tactics.. Lots of incriminating evidence leads towards a stolen idea.. I think the most sold evidence points to the fact the 144 was a complete utter failure, vs the concordehuge success and perfect saftey record (excluding a rattly old DC10's contribution) Never the less very interesting history there, russian a/c is very alluring would love to fly one to compare to western a/c
speaking of perfect didn't the concorde once crash?,but it was from a piece of metal on the runway hard enough to make the fuel leak and star burning then an engine caught on fire so the airplane crashed onto a motel
Sometimes I hate my own nation. Stupid fuckers. Even Germans have this plane as a museum, and our cock suckers just bought 2 of them to sell it by parts. And the town Zhukovsky doesn't have money to buy it back!!! Yeah, right, they somehow sold it to these shitheads, but now they can't buy it back!!! I'd kill em if I could!!!!
You cannot say, that is just a copy. If you want to develop an aircraft with performance as civil supersonic airplane for 140people the shape of the airplane will be always the same. If you look closer you will find a lot of differences. At the end, both producers were solving same problems, f.e. view from cocpit. TU was longer, heavier, faster, longer range, more people, more fuel :). As you said. It is also part of propaganda and TU-144 is just a victim of this era.
If the Germans collect any Russian piece of crap - as they usually do - doesent make this Konkordsky more important than it really is: only a piece of communist propaganda, meant for -almost- a single use (it´s hard to reengineer on those stolen Concorde blueprints ha!) RIP Konkordksy ya old propaganda "fighter"!!
yea Germans usually collect Russian crap, and yet still they either sell it, or put it up in museums. So how its crap i don't know, since a part of German history. unless you are saying that German history is crap too.
This is really sad. Teh plane is sold to a private company which used a scrap metal. Sadly enough the Germans bought another one for a display in a museum while the russians just sold it away as a scrap :( Hope this helped.

The plane began to belong to private persons instead of the state. The private person has sold this plane in metal for 10000000 roubles

Correction: RA 77115 became the 144LL. --- RA 77114 was the cannibalized parts plane for the NASA project.
