    Of Chastity(virginity) <-lol

  • Loved the anime. Cried at the the end

  • Oh cool i never knew "lilium" was Latin cause every time i search it always said romaji

  • 3:01 go to english lyrics

  • i always have this song stuck in my head at school i saw the anime to it was kinda freaked out but now i love it i might even cosplay as Lucy

  • Omg I gonna memorize the words and sing it during school

  • i was like ive heard this song from somewhere and than come to find out it comes from the creppy A anime o.o this anime scared the living shiz outa me!

  • @Megan1156 Wow that really sucks, its not nudity its art. And its just blood, so what i watched this when i was 11!!!! My parents didnt care

  • this is a really good video, but did it have to be pink?

  • I Cried Every Time I Listen To This...

  • I wanna do a english dub to this!

  • I believe 'ignis divine' means ' sacred fire'.

    Is 'nt it?

  • @kentayagyuu Yup! I'm so proud of myself for translating that! I was gonna comment on it, but you already did.

  • @kentayagyuu how about "divine ignition"? :D

  • @croemy

The word "ignition"in English might be derived from "ignis"in classical Latin.

But now, Ignition is usually used as the action of starting to burn or of making something burn.

I believe it depends on how you interpret the anger or powe of GOD,fire?flame ?blaze?ignition?

    Sorry,I am not a native speaker ,not a christian,let alone a philologist.

  • @kentayagyuu lol it was just a joke, actually I think you are right, anyways, try to google images "ignicion divina", you will find some interesting things

  • @croemy yeah i tried that and google pulled up a yugioh card. im like wtf?

  • @kentayagyuu not "sacred fire". its not ho-oh from pokemon:P it means "hollines of fire"

  • @stixoimatizontas I dont think so.

"ignis" is a noun. The nominative case and the vocative case is the same.

"divine" is an adjevtive and the vocative case of "divinus".

  • @kentayagyuu ignis is a noun but in the classic latin there are in the third accidence nouns that have same their nominativus, genituvus and vocativus

  • @stixoimatizontas Yes,in this case,"ignis" is a third declension noun in vocative case, and "divine" is a adjective in vocative case.

    The "divine" is an epithet.

  • This song also ways, somehow, brings a tear to my eye

  • Yes, and the anime is based on a German poem!

  • @EmMagMANGAS no the anime has nothing to do with the poem. the title of the anime is taken fron the title of the poem. the anime is called eflen lied and the poem is Elfenlied, with is also the correct form

  • @nycwiseguy91 You don't know what Elfen lied is!? It is just an awesome anime! And this song is the opening.

  • This song really touches me its so sad but beautiful whats Elfen Lied?

  • @nycwiseguy91 Oh my god ! Elfen Lied is a totally awesome anime ! With alot of violence but trust me, the story is just so beautiful ! I cried at most of the scenes, and I am normally heartless lol. I really recommend it to you. Some scenes are...hum...totally useless I recommend to pass them lol. But it's totally awsome ! There is so much truth in the anime and it reminds me a bit of my life. You should really watch it.

  • "Elfenlied" is a German language, means "Fairy's song". It's from a song by Hugo Wolf, a composer in Austria. This German word has no related to "lie" in English of course. You can watch some sites about this anime and understand why is this titled Elfenlied.

  • :25 C is never soft in Latin, silly!

  • I love singing in English to this song. Even though it's kinda hard.

  • Elfen Lied is pronounced " Elfen Leed not Lied"

  • @Aly23josh Its 'Elfen Lied' not Leed or something ;3

  • I still have Latin in school, in songs like this it may be nice, but to learn it, it's very difficult...

Elfen Lied indeed means Elves Song, and it's called that 'cause Nyuu (Lucy) learns to sing the Poem in the Manga, reading manga will help you understand ~EveryThing about Elfen Lied~ xD

Manga even goes further than the anime :3

  • When I first heard this song, it immediatly became my favorite song.

  • @clapricon13 if u read the english version of the germen poem "elfen lied", it wud make alot of sense

  • English Lyrics Begin At 3:03

  • This may be random, but I want this song played when I die (which hopefully won't be for at least 80 years xD) it's so beautiful but tortured in a way that I understand =3

  • @liliumsancta

U do know ur username lilium is the title of this song? plus, don't watch it if u don't want to,it's your choice, they do mention it in most videos.

  • Kyrie, ignis divine (Latin)

    Lord, sacred FIRE (Englidh)

    Senhor, fogo sagrado (Portuguese)

Yes, ignis = fire. If I'm not wrong, God shows Itself as a sacred fire in Exodus (Bible).

  • i dosent love this

  • @LILIUMSANCTA It doesn't have to do with religion, it's the irony I guess. I don't see how u could condemn people and an anime over a few words in a song. Doesn't the Lord seek to help all of those who have been wronged and in need?

  • THIS ELFEN LEID IS BLASPHEMY AND SHOULD BE PROHIBITED AND ITS PRODUCER IMPRISONED OR EXECUTED.

  • @LILIUMSANCTA It's not like people execute other people these days. Y'know? You don't see people usin' the Guillotine like the olden days. Those chopped off heads. Wait a sec. Isn't executing people blasphemy, too? I'm confused. And as for imprisonment, uh.... Um... What that other dude said. Yep. You got nothin' on the great Parilus Eghuis. He was a great guy. He fought countless battles and he didn't kill a single dude. You know what it's like to win wars without killing people? Tis awesome.

  • THE BOOK OF PSALMS SAYS THAT THE LORD HATES THE LOVER OF VIOLENCE.

  • THE SONG IS NOT APPRPIATE FOR ANIME.THE ANIME HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHASTITY. IT RATHER HAS A LINK WITH MORAL CORRUPTION.

  • DOES ANYBODY HAVE THE TRUE ROMAN CHANT WHERE THE SONG LILIUM WITH ALL ITS VERSIONS TOOK ITS ORIGIN?ANSWER ANYBODY TO ME!

  • its latin thats its pronounced elfen leed but spelled elfen lied btw its lilium is latin for lily of purity

  • its japaneese thats its pronounced elfen leed but spelled elfen lied

  • so creepy........

  • Latin rocks.

  • Elfen Lied is German for Elf song or Elf story.

  • i like it but its the same as everyone else. you should really do the whole song

  • It doesn't take knowing Latin to translate this song, it takes reading the Bible. It's composed of scriptures from the Bible. It's all translated right there for you.

  • c magnifique !

  • Is the singer saying ignis divine? I can't hear where she's saying that. All I hear is Kyrie.

  • This song is so beautiful and it really matches to such an great anime. In my opinion the best anime too. This song and Ave Maria by Schubert are my favourite songs of classic. I like both very well (:

  • elfen lied is my faverite anime and i red its manga (actualy only manga i red)

  • Ah reminds me of Le Marie Glennicia

  • I don't know what it is about this song, but I can't stop listening to it.

  • they dont look like horns at ALL they look like little maybe cat ears :D

  • @AWSOMism I agree ;]

  • @AWSOMism that's the same thing i thought

  • why is it called "Elfen lied"? i love the show and this song... but why is it called 'Elfen' lied?

  • @clapricorn13 I have questioned that as well but I don't know why it's called that. Elfen Lied is German I think and it means Elven Song.

  • @EmoGirl7395 it means elf's song

  • @EmoGirl7395 in the manga they sing the poem elfenlied

  • @EmoGirl7395 yes it is , but still the question is in my head for a long time too.

  • @EmoGirl7395 I am dutch and in my language it means exactly the same so yeah it does. But it doesn't make sense with the serie tho lol. no elfs in there.. plus its japanese serie, why a german / dutch name lol?

  • Comment removed

  • @EmoGirl7395

    @clapricorn13

The series is called Elfen Lied because in the manga the character Nozomi sings a song entitled "The Elve's Song" to Nyu while teaching her how to sing. It's a great bonding process for Nyu as their family is complete. Most people don't realize that the word "Lied" in "Elfen Lied" is pronounced "Leet". A Lied is a type of song that tells a story.

  • @EmoGirl7395 If you don't mind i can shed some light on why it is called Elfen Lied. The horns they are born with make them look like elves, and lied is German for song, as in a Swans song. you see, a swan sings a beautiful song just before it dies. The same way Lucy (Nyuu) gave her best and most loving apologies before she committed suicide. Another way you can think of it is like the story of Romeo and Juliet, while it is a play, they call it a poem, and a song. i hope this explained a little.

  • @wetheholymen Lucy/nyuu committed suicide in the manga storyline??? because it isnt clear in the anime...

  • @wetheholymen Swans actually make horrible croaking noises. The swan fable is prevalent in history mainly because of Orlando Gibbon's madrigal "The Silver Swan" which is actually a critiquing of the loss of the madrigal style. The connection between the Swan's fable and the word "Lied" is a loose one at best and the title can better be interpreted as "Elven Song". Elfen Lied literally translates to "Elves Song" or "Elven Hymn". Elves generally being mythologically attributed to beauty or sorrow.

  • @IndigoYoshi

    "horrible"

    Subjective.

  • @Ninox37 Really? I will assume that you haven't heard swans sing before. Go look up "Singing swans" and click the first link.

That's what swans sound like. That's not a pleasant sound, it's like someone stomping on a really annoying dog toy.

  • @IndigoYoshi

I don't care for it either, but someone else might think it's beautiful.

    Opinions =/= facts.

  • @wetheholymen how do you pronounce lied then?

  • @alyNthome Well the name is from the German language so it would be Elfen Lied (El-fen Leed)

  • @wetheholymen :) i thought so but i wasn't completely sure. :) thank you

  • @EmoGirl7395 The story in the anime differs from the originally created version of the story created by the Mangaka of the manga. If you read the manga, the storyline goes a lot farther than the anime. The reason the song "Elfen Lied" is the title is because this is the song Nyu/Lucy learns, and later sings near the end of the series. "Elfen lied" (elf song) is originally a poem written in German by Eduard Mörike, later adapted into a lied by Hugo Wolf. Read the Manga. You'll understand.

  • @EmoGirl7395 elfen lied is a reference to the song (lillium). Wich plays a vital part of elfen lied`s story.

  • @EmoGirl7395 You're Close. It's Really Elfenlied In German, And It Means 'Elf Song'.

  • @AiiYuuMii not elf song, but elfs' song. the word elf is the same in german and english in the singular. but "elfen" means "elfs"

  • @EmoGirl7395 it means the same in Dutch, thats why I started watching this. Not sure why its named that way.

  • @EmoGirl7395 elfen lied is german (Elfenlied is the correct form). and yes it means elfs' song. Elfenlied is also a poem. it has nothing to do with the story of the anime. only the lyrics have something in common

  • @clapricorn13 It's german for Elf Song, that was the only german thing they kept about the anime except some of the titles i think. I think it has soemthing to do with Lillium.

  • @clapricorn13 It is called Elfen lied because in the manga they include the song "Elfen Lied" which as WakeMeUp96 stated means elf song. However they made DRASTIC changes to the anime and left that song out. If you read the manga (I suggest on onemanga . com) then it will make sense. It is a very nice song (but I prefer Lilium xD )

  • @clapricorn13 In the manga they put a song called Elfen Lied (which means Elf Song in German as EmoGirl395 stated) into the story plot. But since they made DRASTIC changes to the anime (I swear they got rid of about two thirds of the story Dx ) they got rid of it. If you want to know the full story i suggest onemanga . com; it;s a safe manga site. -Becca :)

  • @clapricorn13 its named after an ancient short story called elfenlied

  • @clapricorn13 Elfen Lied is a german poem. It is mentioned in the manga where Nozomi trys to teach Nyu in singing.

The poem is by Eduard Mörike.

  • @clapricorn13 The song is sung by Kaede, I think. She then learns Nyuu/Lucy how to sing it, and the story behind it is explained. I'm not sure, it's been a long time since I watched the series.

Hm, I might do that... :P

  • @clapricorn13 It's called Elfen Lied because (I have no idea what an Elfen is but I know why the put the "Lied" part in the title) the Kouta boy lied to Lucy when they were kids and said that his cousin was a boy when it was a girl and he didn't want Lucy to be sad so when he saw his cousin at a carnival, she followed him onto a train with his dad and sister (they didn't know) and she ripped Kouta's sister in half with her vectors then the dad heard his son screaming and saw his daughter...

  • @clapricorn13 dead on the floor and he got his head ripped off by Lucy and then Lucy whispered to Kouta "You Lied" and limped away out of the train because it stopped.

  • @clapricorn13 because, and ull only get this from the manga -spoiler- they hav a friend in the manga who wanted to go to a singing school, and so she thought nyuu how to sing ang she sand elfen lied -elven song- and at the end she sings it before she dies. -u can't make this up- u don't believe read it or look it up it's true!

  • I remember a part of the anime from the scientists point of veiw when he talks about them calling the diclonius' elfen or something like that. :/ I know it was there...i just cant remember! DX

  • @clapricorn13

Like EmoGirl said, 'Elfen Lied' is german and means 'Elves Song'.

I read an Assistent wa sthinkin this should be a lovestory (well, way it is...).

I guess ist called so becaus it should hav ben the actual name for the Lilium, which's kinda important in thestory.

    That's what I know...

  • @clapricorn13 It's called Elfen Lied because in the manga Lucy sang the German song Elfenlied before dying.

  • @zoezoewriter which sons did lucy sang? this one or "Elfenlied" the poem?

  • @stixoimatizontas The poem. :)

  • @zoezoewriter you mean the one that Eduard Mörike wrote?

  • @stixoimatizontas Yup, that's the one. :)

  • @zoezoewriter ooh forget it. I looked for it and now i understand:)

  • @clapricorn13

    This song translates to

    Elven song in german.

It was written by a german man in the mediaval times.

  • @Darkdayzz yes. its called Elfenlied

  • @clapricorn13 because of the word sipeilt i dunno what the word is called

  • this is beautiful :D

  • you learn it online

it might not be the same but its the closest you got

  • abyssus meus nomen est laurifer(hello my name is victoria)

  • isn't this German? unless i took the wrong class.... lol.

  • Ah i'm gonna learn latin next year and... thats not the point (sorry) but thank you for the video

  • @Blimpop SHE didn't make it stand out the singer did and it has to stand out becuase it means have mercy as in lord, have mercy on the man who suffers temptation. It's very pretty ^^

  • @Nana7lied Actually, this was a collection of chants from the 10th century tribes.

  • @Nana7lied nicely said.

  • u guys know latin?! i really wanna learn latin its so beautiful

  • lol they might just ahve googled it... I mean Latin is a dead language the last person who spoke it died when I was like 8... =/ good luck trying to learn! I wish I had the time or resources!!

  • Well I know some words on my own.

  • @WakeMeUp96 por mea culpa!, por mea putisima culpa! its my fault, its my fucking fault, or something like that :P

  • @WakeMeUp96

poor fool that dont know what is askin for....

  • @WakeMeUp96 I've studied latin for some years, and believe me, in the end it's not that beautiful xD

  • @WakeMeUp96 Wait until you take it because conversational latin (which is what you take in school) is not at all poetic or beautiful because its FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!

  • 'ignis divine' means 'divine fire'

and if it was 'so divine' in Latin it would have been 'tam divine'

    just to let you know:P

I agree ont the song being great

my favourite episode was no. 1

  • Oops! My bad. I was thinking it was 'so divine'. :-)

  • well,

you allready said that you weren't a Latin-specialist, so making small mistakes doesn't really bother

  • what is Eleison?? It stands out in the song.... and you made it stand out too

  • have mercy? i think

  • who knows and who cares? its still a beautiful song.

  • It means have mercy.

  • SPOILER ALERT DONT READ THIS IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE MANGA!:Lucy sacrifices herself to save Kohta and then makes Kohta kill her to stop her from unconsciously destroying the human race

  • i like the meaning of the song...yes, blessed is he who suffers temptatiom for he will receive God's merit in the end... God bless you.

  • I just love this!

    Daniel Léo Simpson

    San Francisco Bay area

  • This was the best anime i have ever seen, +1 if you agree that this is better than FMA (and i hate to say that

  • Same for me. But ending is really sad :-(

Also, I've read manga. It's very interesting. Well, anime follow story from manga really good, until episode 8-9 (i think). Manga goes much far, and it's definately WORTH READING! But I warn you - ending in manga is not so happy too - to be honest it's sad. I'm not gonna spoil :) But if you have a question, I'll answer it ;)

Anyway - great soundtrack, great anime, great story. LOVE IT!

  • ive read it to =D and yes the ending is sad, and i also prefer that ending instead of the animes ending

  • it's best manga/anime I've ever seen :P How about you?

  • yep its the best

  • @roflzomgz I've never watched FMA, but Elfen Lied was brilliant :3. I have to say though, hands down to Death Note. One of the most saddest, screwed up, and creepy series I've seen in a while :3.

  • @roflzomgz lol, i hate to say that too, but yeah, if i must choose, i'd put elfen lied before fma.

  • this kind of stuff is all that i listen to

  • it's a shame my generation doesn't appreiciate this kind of music I'm les then half my age

  • I know I love this type of music but my friends really don't.

  • Agreed. It's all about making money and having sex nowadays..

  • I know!

  • I KNOW RIGHT

  • thats true......*nods head*

  • Thanks for sharing....wonderful message for all.

  • i may be old as your mom =] but ilove this music you have uploaded,so if you dont mind Ms emogirl...i,ve copied it and pasted it in my channel...will be listening to it...thanks..♫....all the best!♪~~~c4f

  • It's by Kumiko Noma.... at least the version I have

  • Whos the singer?

  • I'm actually not sure. On the place where I got the MP3 it said Herr Der Ringe...maybe that's who it is, but unfortunately I don't actually know, sorry!

  • yay!! first comment :D nice vid
