what the heck the movies are always so much more ... graphic than the books. Watership Down, NIMH, Plague Dogs. Why? they're not that bad till' you make a movie

It's only a cartoon, i mean you should watch a gorier animated movie like Heavy Metal, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Urotsukidoji Legend of the Overfiend, Fist of the North Star, Elfen Lied, etc.? those have more animated gore
Brilliant movie, one of the best animated movies i've seen and one of the best adult animations ever. It's like Perfect Blue meets Oliver and Company with a hint of Audition and Silence of the Lambs.
Watched Watership Down and had to find movies that were dark like that one, and may try my hand at writing one sometime. I found this movie and hope to watch Plague Dogs later on!
Oh, god. I tend to cry tears of joy when I see gore in narratives, particularly horror flicks like The Thing and Alien, but this one disturbed me immensely. The manner in how this film's gore shows is stingy and very gritty.

But I would not empathize their stories, for they feel strongly one-sided, intending nothing more than to agitate their audience. Even so, its the thought that the pain involved, in the actual act of terrorizing the flesh of a sentient being---its a pity that our bodies could suffer like that.

I watched it this movie, and im like 12. It was a little disturbing but I've seen worse. its a great movie and well done animation and characters. Only I'd suggest if you get squimish if you see some blood or gore, of get umcomfortable with foul language you really shouldn't watch. The best animated movie ive seen since Jungle book lol 2 completley different films but they are both my favorite id say jungle book is better but this film is really smart and interesting also quite dark and disturbing in some parts

@Mallo1992 It got a limited release mostly in a handful of European countries. If you live outside of Europe, then Amazon is going to be your best bet for picking this up on DVD.

@22wingzero The DVD release available on amazon.de does actually include an English dub, just so you know. :) It just takes a bit of experimenting to get to it first if you don't speak German, as it's in the language options, which is only labelled in German. ;^^ As long as you can play region 2 DVDs you should be fine buying that one. ^-^
An animated film is not necessarily for children. If you think that, well, you're pretty ignorant. And not every animated film if by Disney! Think of All Dogs Go to Heaven, or Anastasia.
Anyways, this movie is absolutely fantastic. Violent and rather disturbing, but really beautiful somehow. I believe that the book is French and the movie is German, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. P:

I'm pretty surprised how horrified people are about the mating scene. I mean, turn on the discovery channel or something and you see the same thing with real animals! xD
This movie is simply amazing! Never mind the blood and gore; you're simply too immature to be watching this if you can't handle it. This is one of the few cartoons that ISN'T anime that I will watch, and the storyline is so captivating!
This movie made me speechless, the plot, the atmosphere, all the things in Felidae are something completely magnificent. I'll never get tired of watching it over and over again.
The people being shocked by mating scenes amuse me. If I had seen that as a kid I would have just thought "Oh the cat's are mating, OK then" it wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest. I grew up in nature docs, cartoon animals mating is nothing when you are used to real animals doing it. Hell that was my sex education :)
You did a nice job with this <3 I just watched the movie for the first time-- My opinion on the "Appropriate for kids" thing is complicated. I don't think kids should be confined to happy-go-lucky sappy crap, but I also think SOME of the scenes here are a little too... you know. I watched Tremors when I was four and I loved it. So I'd say that if there were a rating between PG-13 and R, that'd be right. Because it's just a bit too mature for PG-13. But yeah, brilliant movie.

Naw, I think X is too far. R sounds better to me. I've, honestly, never seen an R rated movie, however, other than the sex scene, Felidae didn't really bother me too much. And I used to absolutely /hate/ seeing any form of death with a cat. However, if you think about it, some of the gore is equal to that in the Warriors book series, and the Warriors books aren't found in the adult section of a bookstore.
@catwarriorsrock I loved this movie it reminded me of warriors with kittypets, i think its more like a pg 14 movie but i really dont like rating systmes becasue i know 15 year olds who would cry from seeing this and i just saw it and im 12, i saw and edited version of saving private ryan when i was 5 and i played halo for the first time at 7 so i really think the movie deserves Pg-12 or so..of course not counting the sex scene..
I wached the movie thinking it was a simple movie about cats. I had to cover my eyes in some parts I did not even wach the part where the where testing on cats it was so horrific. The movie is amazing, even though I could not sleep for three days .
The DVD I have doesn't have a rating on it, but surprisingly this film was rated 12 in Germany, meaning kids ages 12 and up could see it. Personally at the very least I'd say it should be ages 15 and up.
I guess they thought it was too gruesome to be an animated film as it would appeal to a younger audience in such a way. They probably didn't think it would sell either or something, lol.
I find that kinda stupid to ban an animated movie in North America for those reasons. How is a mature animated movie any worse than these awfull horror films, and movie with nudity in them?
It just doesn't make sense. It ticks me off so bad to see anything called a movie specifically for kids, but to say that animated movies are all kid friendly REALLY crosses the line for me. I enjoy family friendly animated movies, sure. But all animated movies arent all family friendly
yes, this movie is by far NOT aimed for a young audience ! though sometimes a tad disturbing, it wasn't half bad at all, with quite an intriguing story and very good animation. I recommend it, but not to those who know they won't stand the sight of cat torture and mutilated cat corpses. Note : this movie is German.
It's a kind of noir/thriller kind of film where the protagonists are household cats. It's a mature film aimed at adult that tells the story of Francis, a cat whose owner has just moved into this new neighbourhood where there have been some mysterious murders of cats. From there Francis assumes the role of detective and begins to investigate the killings.

Lol I love this movie and I'm only 13, and I didn't think this was a Disnbey movie until I read the movies comments and some one said it was a Disny movie, that shocked me until I read other comments!

@22wingzero The DVD release available on amazon.de does actually include an English dub, just so you know. :) It just takes a bit of experimenting to get to it first if you don't speak German, as it's in the language options, which is only labelled in German. ;^^ As long as you can play region 2 DVDs you should be fine buying that one. ^-^

An animated film is not necessarily for children. If you think that, well, you're pretty ignorant. And not every animated film if by Disney! Think of All Dogs Go to Heaven, or Anastasia.
Anyways, this movie is absolutely fantastic. Violent and rather disturbing, but really beautiful somehow. I believe that the book is French and the movie is German, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. P:

This movie is simply amazing! Never mind the blood and gore; you're simply too immature to be watching this if you can't handle it. This is one of the few cartoons that ISN'T anime that I will watch, and the storyline is so captivating!

The people being shocked by mating scenes amuse me. If I had seen that as a kid I would have just thought "Oh the cat's are mating, OK then" it wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest. I grew up in nature docs, cartoon animals mating is nothing when you are used to real animals doing it. Hell that was my sex education :)

You did a nice job with this <3 I just watched the movie for the first time-- My opinion on the "Appropriate for kids" thing is complicated. I don't think kids should be confined to happy-go-lucky sappy crap, but I also think SOME of the scenes here are a little too... you know. I watched Tremors when I was four and I loved it. So I'd say that if there were a rating between PG-13 and R, that'd be right. Because it's just a bit too mature for PG-13. But yeah, brilliant movie.

@bloodydragon Well I think watership down was a lot more kid friendly then this one. I loved Watership down when I was little, there's just a bit fighting in the end.
And even though, Felidae was a book ritten for grown ups, Watership down was a story that Richard Adams told his kids before sleeping time. XD

Naw, I think X is too far. R sounds better to me. I've, honestly, never seen an R rated movie, however, other than the sex scene, Felidae didn't really bother me too much. And I used to absolutely /hate/ seeing any form of death with a cat. However, if you think about it, some of the gore is equal to that in the Warriors book series, and the Warriors books aren't found in the adult section of a bookstore.

@catwarriorsrock I loved this movie it reminded me of warriors with kittypets, i think its more like a pg 14 movie but i really dont like rating systmes becasue i know 15 year olds who would cry from seeing this and i just saw it and im 12, i saw and edited version of saving private ryan when i was 5 and i played halo for the first time at 7 so i really think the movie deserves Pg-12 or so..of course not counting the sex scene..

I wached the movie thinking it was a simple movie about cats. I had to cover my eyes in some parts I did not even wach the part where the where testing on cats it was so horrific. The movie is amazing, even though I could not sleep for three days .

The DVD I have doesn't have a rating on it, but surprisingly this film was rated 12 in Germany, meaning kids ages 12 and up could see it. Personally at the very least I'd say it should be ages 15 and up.

I find that kinda stupid to ban an animated movie in North America for those reasons. How is a mature animated movie any worse than these awfull horror films, and movie with nudity in them?
It just doesn't make sense. It ticks me off so bad to see anything called a movie specifically for kids, but to say that animated movies are all kid friendly REALLY crosses the line for me. I enjoy family friendly animated movies, sure. But all animated movies arent all family friendly

yes, this movie is by far NOT aimed for a young audience ! though sometimes a tad disturbing, it wasn't half bad at all, with quite an intriguing story and very good animation. I recommend it, but not to those who know they won't stand the sight of cat torture and mutilated cat corpses. Note : this movie is German.

It's a kind of noir/thriller kind of film where the protagonists are household cats. It's a mature film aimed at adult that tells the story of Francis, a cat whose owner has just moved into this new neighbourhood where there have been some mysterious murders of cats. From there Francis assumes the role of detective and begins to investigate the killings.
