@gaypray Hardly in a subtle way. They might as well have replaced the words "androgenous" and "genderless" with the word "heterosexual" and the words "male" and "female" to "gay." This is one of the worst Star Trek episodes as far as messages. I respect the Captain for his decision to uphold the prime directive and do not approve of Worf and Will for their attempt at vigilante justice. The prime directive is not an "at-will" edict. It is their number one law.
@prendes4 Get off your cross Mary... we need the wood! Picard, Kirk, Sisko, Archer and Janeway "all" broke the Prime directive many, many times when they thought the situation was "WRONG" . And, at the end of this episode he asks Riker if his business on the planet is finished and if they can move on to the next planet. So he "did" condone Riker's and Worf's actions! Throughout all of the series, the Prime Directive was broken/bent because it was too stringent!
@prendes4 I disagree completely and wholeheartedly. Right or wrong by law, Riker followed his heart to do what was right by personal ethics, courage, integrity and love. The message of this episode was great, and one which should be spread further in Amerikan society. Perhaps we might finally grow as a people and respect our fellow TG and homosexual citizens. If the 'law' is more important to you than these things, these people, I'm glad we only associate over a screen.
i don't ever watch this show, but today i was watching it with my granddad and it was almost like it was meant for me to watch this...because it totally resonated with me in a deep way...beautiful scene.
I was little when this episode aired, and it was in discussion afterwards that I learned what homosexuals are.
