  • I work at a bronze sculpture foundry and when i discovered this band it was like a light turning on in my head. steampunk is the way to go

  • OMG I love this band just found them.. I'm going totally steampunk this fall/winter the clothing, the makeup..so cool... give a listen to them very good..ok steam punk what the hell well watch the video and u will know

  • I just discovered you guys. Cant wait to see you at Dragoncon this year!

  • I loved steampunk before i even knew what it was! Abney Park changed my life forever with just one song.

  • My favorite thing about Steampunk is the people that are attracted to it! The people at the forefront - and therefore the people that are following them in the movement - are all very intelligent! And they don't take themselves too seriously while not being slapstick and goofy.

  • The narrator's voice is captivating o.o

  • I think every true steampunk has been steampunk all their life, before even learning of the term. That's how it happened with me, and apparently that's how it happened with Abney Park too! I grew up liking movies like Castle in the Sky, and Games like Final Fantasy 6 and 9... Then as a teenager I found it had a name and a cult following, and I quickly became what l am today lol.

  • this is amazing, i'm gonna have to go buy one of your CD's! I'm really into steampunk but had no idea there was a steampunk musical genre. now I'm so excited.

  • You guys are my favorite Steampunk band. Great stuff!

  • I really like your music and it showed me that steampunk is a whole new style I never knew of, not just with music either.

  • Can steam punk be black with copper? :O

  • @Jonnykproductions yes, steampunk can be black and copper, give it a Victorian post apocalyptic flare and you've got it.

  • I'm still waiting for a steam-powered amplifier...

  • Anyone ever read the mortal engines quartet by Phillip Reeve- fits in perfect to any song by Abney Park

  • DR STEEELLLLLLEEEE~~~!!!!

  • I think over explaining an aesthetic tends to shorten its life and take away from its allure. Keep telling everyone about it and you will find Steampunk stuff for sale at WalMart.

    Silence Earthling

  • @littlelove4us HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, LOVE IT! Well said. We're more the off-label kind of crew. If we make it too "popular" it will become far less special. The most precious gems are the rare ones for a reason!

  • I am in love with that zepplin!

  • steampunk is an individual envisionment of an alterd future according to the perspective of a patron of the victorian era (or that was the definition when the cocept of the genre was originally created by authors of the victorian era)

but of course given the fact that to most people the genre is kind of vage and that it is 2010 the line between past and future is often not very fine but the original definition of the genre remains unchanged (future to a victorian, but unknown to a modern)

  • I don't know why. But i LOVE this video! It's just GOOD, but i don't know why i like it so much.

  • Why are all steampunk chicks hot as all hell

  • @yukisohma19 not all of them are, but enough certainly are...

  • Love the music. And love the shout out to the Doc at 1:30

  • Why is there like almost two minutes of dead screen after the video? The video ends at 4:22 and goes till 6:22?

  • Great video!

I believe that steampunk is all about originality and creativity, and you certainly have that. Abney park, you are my favorite band. :]

Your voice is very sexy by the way. :]

  • I fell hard and fast for Abney Park at Dragon Con 09, and have been a faithful follower ever since!!! Can't wait til they make it back down to the south east...or anywhere east south of DC for that matter lol!!!

  • steam punk is so cool wish i lived in a city so i could expearance it... sorry i can't spell very well

  • @taylorlazoruk You don't have to live in the city to experiance steampunk. I like in Alabama and me and my friends are getting together and making a steampunk pirate crew. I'm first mate Samantha Muggeridge and I'm working very diligently on my costume. Sure, I may get more looks for dressing differently. This IS the South. But so what?

  • @taylorlazoruk Sorry I mean I LIVE in Alabama.

  • It's such a beautiful style. Loved the first time I heard Dr. Calgori because I'm a huge Tesla fan & advocate. This man was (and is) pure genious. Props for keeping him alive.

  • Wonderful

  • Thank you for your wonderful and creative style! I love your music and especially the sort of organic, ethnic sound that comes with it.

This is a great video for those who want to know about Steampunk and a great video for those who want to know who you are! Keep up the great work!

  • Had to check out what I was going to see at A-Kon, thanks for the warning!

  • I sadly dont dress in the steampunk style, but I love the look.

  • its a pain in the arse to find a decent looking outfit tho, lol i too feel you pain loooool :D

  • I love you guys so much. I've been into steampunk fashion for several years, I just didn't know there could be music for it! I found you about four days ago, and I already have a playlist of nothing but Abney Park now, with 19 songs on it currently (Fittingly, I named it "Bring on the Airships") and thanks to your visuals, I'm working on my own Neo-Victorian/Steampunk outfit. Keep it up guys, you're amazing visually and musicly. <3

  • greetings from Hungary you rule!

  • first time hearing about this band...

okay so they are using the definition of punk and it's uniqueness and branching off on a different twist, "steam".

  • @GodofWhores This video only gave me the impression of a 16 year old kid saying "I'm punk and here's why...."

Forget labels. Dave king (singer for Flogging Molly) said it best, "labels belong on envelopes. Do what you love and don't worry about how people view you."

  • Kato can play the violin?! I am growing more and more into a fan...

  • GreatvVideo, but someone needs to learn how to edit better (the mind numbing blackness will consume my soul). I can't wait untill I can get my hands on some clothes and equipment to mod, I'm currently working on some custom goggles from scratch. Abney Park is one of the most aesthetically pleasing bands out there, earth tones and brass look beautifull.

  • So cool! I love steampunk, and i really want to create an outfit but i'm useless at sewing :)

I'd love to see a live show at the Edison

  • I'd love to just go to the Edison! That club looks so awesome and it's so nostalgic too!

  • You don't have to. Put something together from your existing wardrobe or find something at thrift stores.

  • i dont think Abney Park is Steampunk just cuz they DIY there stuff.. i think he is saying they steampunk mod-ed all their modern stuff because they liked the look.. its part of the DIY community but i think they do their stuff more DIY cuz steampunk items are almost impossible to find and they wanted to have the steampunk look

  • There was no "original steampunk" look or era. There was victorian, there was industrial. There were never any true airship zeppelin pirates or wild-wild west style robots with spider legs.

I'm sorry to bust your bubble, but DIY is probably the best and most relateable way to go about doing a steampunk look without turning into some sort of blue-man group total DIY music that sounds goofy and experimental. Thats not what they play.

  • More specifically, since steampunk is merging past and future styles, we couldn't just play experimental noise music. That should als. Have both modern and old fashion music elements thrown in, just as the asthetic merges the old and the new.

This is why JUST doing modern sounds or JUST do doing Victorian sounds dosnt really capture what we think steampunk music should be.

  • right, it's a blend, style and sound, their are no one thing you can point and say "that is what Steam Punk is" well other then the goggles.

  • why is kato on stage? is she also from the band?

  • If i were to buy a guitar solely for the purpose of steampunking it, would anyone have any recommendations? preferred price range of under $400. I really don't feel like steampunking my prs :x

  • go on Brass Goggles of any steampunk information.

  • Comment removed

  • Spartan Youth Radio interviewed Cpt. Robert of Abney Park. Check out our channel or google Spartan Youth Radio for the extended version....24 minutes of Abney Park!

  • ages ago a friend mentioned steampunk... about three weeks ago i remembered it and looked it up... its awesome. Already started steampunking ma guitar and some other bits, abney park style. :) I know a few steampunks so its all good.

  • once i found out about steam punk i feel head over heels for it. i realized that i found the style that fit me best :) i love making things, and changeing the look of clothes so steampunk got my attention right away epsecially since i adore the virtorian look. i see a steamy future a head of me. :)

  • I think I'm falling in love with Steampunk, the more I learn about it, more It sucks me in. to bad I don't know any steampunk people...

  • im the same, we both got eachother! lol

  • @DiceWarwick i fell the same and u know what u can become the steampunk u know be who u are and u dont need anyone to be steampunk u are who u are

  • @DiceWarwick So therefore, you start something. Based off what I've heard from folks coming in from out of town, our social group, the Seattle Steamrats is one of the larger more organized groups at least on the west coast. Haven't heard from anyone out east yet. It all started with a couple people meeting on a weekly basis for about a year and it's grown exponentially since, to 3 branches, mostly made to accommodate strays at farther reaches.

  • @DiceWarwick to quote a very famous book in an incorrect fashion "We are many."

Go to facebook and type in airship in the search engine. youll find the main profile/group/whatever that for many airships (Which is basically a group of steampunks if you dont know) and there locations.

Beware the posers though. As fashion rises in the scene. So do the many preppy jerks that want in on something deemed cool.

They stole the dark/goth look when twilight came around. And more mount every day.

  • Dress how you want to, it shouldn't matter if theres a niche in your area or not. steampunk isn't exactly cheap either, so make sure you're into it before you go balls-deep into what might only be a quick phase for you.

oh well, that's just my opinion = /

  • Heheheh..balls deep xD

Take me for example. I've been into this for about 2 years now, and I haven't been outside in steam-gear (properly, or what I consider "properly") at all. All because I've been planning and planning and working and buying and modding and planning. And it's ongoing, and i'm about to rip out this year. So yeah, it's not easy xDD

  • Why worry about creating a Steampunk outfit? Isn't it good enough to just be into the style? I mean I front a Steampunk band, and I don't have a crazy costume. I'm happy just wearing whatever. On stage I do wear nice clothes, but nothing too over the top.

  • Well steampunk is a DIY/mod subculture. Even a simple suit could take quite a long time depending on if they sew it themselves. The steampunk outfit is one of the main pillars of steampunk.

  • Ahhh now we've opened the can of worms I was hoping would stay closed. Steampunk is not, I repeat not all about DIY/Modding.

In fact the whole DIY aspect is probably the newest part of the subculture. There was no modding aspect in 1987 when the term was coined by KW Jeter. Steampunk is first and foremost a literary style. It was later adapted to film, video games, and eventually music. In 2005 the first signs of a modding community were starting to appear.

  • the same can be said of nearly every movement. i truly doubt poe or stoker forsaw the goth subculture. Subcultures eventually grow out of their origins. Plus we can't all be authors and musicians.

  • Well apparently my original reply was deleted for some reason? Anyways my point isn't that Steampunk can't grow out of its origins (obviously that has already happened). My point was that Steampunk isn't a genre entirely focused on DIY like many may think. I mean if you like Steampunk, that makies you a Steampunk. Whether or not you decide to mod your own things.

  • Thank you. I'm just a humble newcomer to the genre, but I was under the impression that the term Steampunk currently holds a myriad meanings -each of which is true for the people espousing the ideals- but in general has to do with an interest in a specific literary group (H.G. Wells and Jules Verne) as well as a desire for a style that relates more to "Form than Function" and a slightly less "Mass produced" feel that many things seem to contain of late.Of course that's just my interpretation.

  • Yeah that's pretty much our take on it as well.

  • I particularly enjoyed the last 2 minutes

  • Hi, maybe it is nothing for you but... i am your fan and i live in SLOVAKIA, that is in the middle of europe. So...your music is spread also here.

  • Goddamn if that ain't some of the coolest stuff I've seen in awhile.

  • Awsome !! can't wait to finish my own Steampunk outfit and show em off at a Abney Park Live performence !!

  • FABULOUS. I flipping love you guys. This video gives me chills of steamy joy. Keep it up!!!

  • Steampunk, and especially Abney Park, have got to be the coolest things I've come across in recent times. Kudos indeed.

  • You're so cool...

    And your musice is awesome!!!

  • Cool as nordic hell!

  • Super video! I feel very connected with you guys!

  • I agree. you guys were meant to come last year downunder but it got cancelled :(

Please consider rescheduling a tour here sometime in the new year.

  • Very interesting. I certainly appreciated the information considering I only first heard about your band two weeks ago and just heard your music a week ago (and LOVE IT). I've been picking through the free section of 'The Vault' ever since and will be using my next paycheck to search deeper in its coffers. ;)

  • I enjoy your music so much, and the ideas behind steampunk (almost more than the esthetic, actually, though that is gorgeous too). Finding this video- proof, to me, that you're not just pretty faces with a pretty sound, makes me very happy. You guys rock on so many levels.

  • Very cool. You guys are fantastic, especially in this day and age of cookie-cutter radio crap.

  • Lovely! I really want to go to the Edison, it's so beautiful!

  • I love Abney Park. I wish I could go to a show.

  • Very interesting, nice to find out some of the background Abney Park.

  • Steampunk has the best musicians.

Abney Park, MC Elemental, Dr.Steel, Mister Joe Black...

  • Who's Mister Joe Black? I have not heard of him, and obviously I try to keep up with new musicians who are into the same style as my self.

  • Search YouTube for "Joe Black - Child Catcher" very cool Vaudvillian SteamPunk gypsie music.

I should add Vernian Process to that list of great Steampunk Artists.

  • Thank you I'll check that out =)

  • Very nice guys, I'll see you at the Convention in a week! Cya.

  • Wow,great video. I love Abney Park!

  • Great job.
