No, I can see how it's similar, but none of the main Myst games (I-V) happen before Myst I.

No, Riven is the sequal to Myst and takes place after Myst. You fall into the star field because Atrus assumes that if his Myst book got to you through the star field, you should be able to return to where you found the Myst book, which is home.
