Okay...I have a mic with one of those spongy filters, connected to a long, long microphone cord I got from Micro Center. I'm pretty sure the mic's a "camcorder" mic, too. It works just fine connected to a computer (especially with an audio interface in the middle), but for some reason, I can't pick up any sound with the mic attached to my Aiptek camera. I don't suppose you know what the problem is, do you?
@drf22 wit hthe cam being waterproof, kodak could have placed a port behind a closed door, so NO is the answer, modding to sodered circuit is your option, and opening the cam? placing a port behind a closed door,
I'm wondering if you ever have any trouble with the external mic feature working. When I first got my Aiptek GVS camcorder I had no trouble, but recently I cannot get the feature to work. I've used different mics, replaced batteries, double checked that power was on, etc. etc. Any thoughts?
Aiptek used to be a fairly good company. No More, In The USA, Aiptek has gone down hill they stopped making PMP Players and recorders in their cameras, as well as discontinuing the Action HD Pro and no longer answer customer phonecalls or call back. They are rude to the customer base. I urge all to Write and Call Aiptek and let them know to Bring the USA Market back up with good customer service and bring back the Action HD PRO and PMP Players/Recorders to all HD Camcorders. Hi. I wanted to ask if you were able to record from your tv onto your Aiptek Action HD GVS cam. I have been trying to do it, but whenever I plug the cables in, only audio out and earphones pop up. No audio in.
@fishycomics you should be able to; just use a 1/4 to 1/8 plug if your using a powered rca mic; or if your using an xlr mic (after phantom power pre-amplification) use xlr to 1/4 and from 1/4 to 1/8; finally check the volume levels on your mic and camcorder to make it levels even.
@95bradders95 no prob. it is really a choice you need to make, the GVS is a great cam but will sufferin loud places overblown sound I would suggest the zi8 research sample decide
fishy, I bought this camera and have been fighting it quite a bit. With the help of your videos, I have nearly solved any issue I had. The biggest one left, is the TV recording feature. I simply can NOT get it to work!! I tried a half dozen times, step by step following the manual. No success. Any advice??
Love your video reviews, I'm looking to buy an Aiptek Camera the 1080p gvs hd. Is this the best one for me? This may help you in what I'm looking for. I'm a movie prop collector and setting up, to put my collection on ytube with other collectors. I will need very clear close-ups and photos of my props, wide viewing of room and etc.. HELP!!! Thank you,.
great video and very helpful, I plan on buying a few mics and I plan on making sure that they are returnable after I do some similar tests. Thank you!
Could you please help, i have an aiptek 1080/720p and when i insert a mic the sound does not go thruogh, instead it shows me a headphone icon , even when i select the head phone icon it doesn't
forgive me if I am wrong lets s if We can clear this up. the Model you have is Unclear, either state if it is example Action HD GVS (model V5z5s) AHD ..
if yoyu see headphone jack, and you're placing a mic in. go fish, they do not match. that means you are inserting to the tv playback port. how I'm doing?
If you have the GVS you plug to the SIDE port marked MIC shows up as a EXT mic icon lower left. thank you.
I hear ya. some will work, some will not, not all will. the one's I shown do just that, and not owning others, and why I said Unsure thanks. if you buy a mic, amke sure it's refundable.
Very informative - thanks. I am interested in what the wireless set-up you used. Aiptek volunteers no specific information except that my AZDEN wireless set-up will not work.
Where is the mic input jack? I have downloaded the manual and don't see anything that is labeled for an external mic. I am thinking about buying this for my son, but want to be sure about the mic input. Thanks for showing your tests...they are great.
@fishycomics Can you please tell me a little more about the Volume control extention and the 50 ft rca extension? Where can I buy them? Thank you for your time.
Thank you for an excellent test! Very informative! I teach digital film production at the Art Institute of California - Los Angeles, and we are considering giving all our students their own HD camcorder. I had assumed a decent HD camcorder would cast $600 - $800, but this Aiptek is very tempting!
what external shotgun mics would you recommend and what stores sell them? I recently bought the camera and want to get rid of the small humming noise from the internal mic...esp if im outside...
This was a pretty good test. The ext. mics make a big difference. How does the picture compare to the 1080p? I wish Aiptek would include more camera mode options.
So I just ordered one off amazon... but are there anythings that I should know or do before i use it? I mean any secrets or things that helped it's problems
Hello, great video, I was wondering about some things on this camera, i plan on either one or two of these for work purposes, due to them being cheap, what type of plug-in is the Microphone Jack?
This is a great tutorial. Can you provide the exact external mic specs for the GE mic. I have a Sony ECM-CS10 with two feet of wire. Works well but I need more wire and Aiptek says it doesnt work with any extension wire. I am using it for on the fly corporate videos. Thanks
i have questions though and i hope you can answer.
1. does hd component output equal with hdmi output? or did the salesclerk did something wrong? i wasnt happy with the playback and they say using hdmi cable than rca jacks has a very big difference and i agree coz i have seen its difference.
2. if i burn this .mov files 1080p to dvd will it still be the same when i play it on dvd and will it play on a 1080p dvd player?
Hm. I've read a review or two that says theres no mic input. Is this false? Does the AV in expect a video signal as well when you plug in a more professional quality mic?
I have this exact camcorder I really think its the best camcorder but the only problem I have with it is that the camera or whatever saves the video as a .MOV file. And with that problem I cant have any audio just the video.
The quality of the Aiptek is so much better than even the Canon and Kodak HD cameras in the same range, that I can deal with a little bit of jello. Thanks for testing/reviewing this camera. I hadn't heard of it, but will be buying two for stereo video.
Radio Shack sells an omnidirectional lav mic that has an amazing frequency response and is clear as hell under fw 2503 for this camcorder. Also, this camcorder has started showing up in some wal-marts according to their website. Sorry if I'm late on this.
i dont even understand what hes saying but watching this stoned rocks. thumbs up if you got here from r/trees

HELP!!! Thank you,.

the angle may not be wide enough so aftermarket mods may be needed.

What a difference the external mic makes! Thinking about getting one that hangs off the side just to get better sound :)

Could you please help, i have an aiptek 1080/720p and when i insert a mic the sound does not go thruogh, instead it shows me a headphone icon , even when i select the head phone icon it doesn't
mlkaba 2 years ago
forgive me if I am wrong lets s if We can clear this up. the Model you have is Unclear, either state if it is example Action HD GVS (model V5z5s) AHD ..
if yoyu see headphone jack, and you're placing a mic in. go fish, they do not match. that means you are inserting to the tv playback port. how I'm doing?
If you have the GVS you plug to the SIDE port marked MIC shows up as a EXT mic icon lower left. thank you.

fishycomics 2 years ago
Very informative - thanks. I am interested in what the wireless set-up you used. Aiptek volunteers no specific information except that my AZDEN wireless set-up will not work.

Where is the mic input jack? I have downloaded the manual and don't see anything that is labeled for an external mic. I am thinking about buying this for my son, but want to be sure about the mic input. Thanks for showing your tests...they are great.
fullofjoy93 2 years ago
the Ext mic is located to the side where the speaker is at accross. opposite the lcd. now the new GVS will be released1920x1080 called theextreme.

what are you connecting the mics into? is it wireless?
JoeNATIONtv 2 years ago
I am connecting the mic to the Ext jack port of the GVS, I am plugging into a vloume control extention, and a 50 foot rca componant cable.
AIptek states the cam cannt function with these. not without these, I said with these,
So when one does not support what the cam can do one asks others.
fishycomics 2 years ago
@fishycomics Can you please tell me a little more about the Volume control extention and the 50 ft rca extension? Where can I buy them? Thank you for your time.
ginito97 2 years ago
99 cent store on all cables. gain control at radioshack or other, Aiptek will only allow 3 feetl proven 50 feet plus with extentions work.
fishycomics 2 years ago
Thank you for an excellent test! Very informative! I teach digital film production at the Art Institute of California - Los Angeles, and we are considering giving all our students their own HD camcorder. I had assumed a decent HD camcorder would cast $600 - $800, but this Aiptek is very tempting!

where can i find a mic for my aiptek cam? please help i need one bad.
growingup15 2 years ago
also what LED lights would you recommend? especially for filming indoors and outside when it gets darker.
StonePro85 2 years ago
what external shotgun mics would you recommend and what stores sell them? I recently bought the camera and want to get rid of the small humming noise from the internal mic...esp if im outside...
StonePro85 2 years ago
I wonder how the new Samson Zoom Q3 compares to this in regard to picture quality. I know it's not HD, but still...
slapopimp 2 years ago
if no issues, are there, then you know it be better.
fishycomics 2 years ago
This was a pretty good test. The ext. mics make a big difference. How does the picture compare to the 1080p? I wish Aiptek would include more camera mode options.
slapopimp 2 years ago
I agree. He does a great job in going through mics.
DeltaForceSFODD 2 years ago
The internal mike is very good,
so as the external is only mono I will
only use the internal for now, when I shoot outdoors on vacation and am at the camera and dont have to speak from a far distance...
overunitydotcom 2 years ago
So I just ordered one off amazon... but are there anythings that I should know or do before i use it? I mean any secrets or things that helped it's problems

fishycomics 2 years ago
Hello, great video, I was wondering about some things on this camera, i plan on either one or two of these for work purposes, due to them being cheap, what type of plug-in is the Microphone Jack?
3.5mm or a 2.5mm?
narn31 2 years ago
Very good job...

This is a great tutorial. Can you provide the exact external mic specs for the GE mic. I have a Sony ECM-CS10 with two feet of wire. Works well but I need more wire and Aiptek says it doesnt work with any extension wire. I am using it for on the fly corporate videos. Thanks
labbazia 2 years ago
I placed over 40 feet show aiptek the dam vidoe and putthem in their plae.
fishycomics 2 years ago
I dont understand. The Aiptek folks said the camcorder audio doesnt work with extension wires. What was your exact set up?
labbazia 2 years ago
as posted
fishycomics 2 years ago
i have questions though and i hope you can answer.
1. does hd component output equal with hdmi output? or did the salesclerk did something wrong? i wasnt happy with the playback and they say using hdmi cable than rca jacks has a very big difference and i agree coz i have seen its difference.
2. if i burn this .mov files 1080p to dvd will it still be the same when i play it on dvd and will it play on a 1080p dvd player?

you bought the camera for around $200,right?i want to make sure i found the right one...
brandon9klay 2 years ago 2
Hm. I've read a review or two that says theres no mic input. Is this false? Does the AV in expect a video signal as well when you plug in a more professional quality mic?
linuslaumusic 2 years ago
I have this exact camcorder I really think its the best camcorder but the only problem I have with it is that the camera or whatever saves the video as a .MOV file. And with that problem I cant have any audio just the video.
imabeef 2 years ago
not a mp3 player if tht is what you're after
fishycomics 2 years ago
the jello effect is greatly reduced, not going to say perfect. if in digital zzoom hmmm
fishycomics 2 years ago
The quality of the Aiptek is so much better than even the Canon and Kodak HD cameras in the same range, that I can deal with a little bit of jello. Thanks for testing/reviewing this camera. I hadn't heard of it, but will be buying two for stereo video.
jbliss1980 2 years ago
Fishy,
Do you notice any rolling shutter artifacts when the camera is moved?
jbliss1980 2 years ago
Radio Shack sells an omnidirectional lav mic that has an amazing frequency response and is clear as hell under fw 2503 for this camcorder. Also, this camcorder has started showing up in some wal-marts according to their website. Sorry if I'm late on this.
