i like the marshall grabbing the rear wheel arch, inches from the tyre as the driver puts his foot down, ......................................idiot! cool car though!
i wanna share some personal information....This gives me a chubby... to have that chassis racing for that long is amazing.. sux that the scca gives ya crap for running older chassis.
straight cut close ratio dog box. No synchro so useless for the road. The internals would appear to be a one off hand made set up built into a 240rs box.
May be up for sale at the end of this season!!!!!!! as I want to go sequential for next season.
Is it true this was one of the Nissan works rally cars from the South African safari? Would you know the chassis number? Great bit of Nissan history there...well done
hi zedman, No this is not a rally shell. It is the car that Janspeed built as a replacement to the rally monte carlo 988 shell that Rob Jannsen was using very effectively as a race car in the early 1970s
This car has been continuely racing since it's build in 1974/5
the car is based and runs in the uk and mainly on hill climbs. Since this vid was posted I have done some more areo mods so the bonnet doesnt try to break in half.
Yes it is normally aspirated and running on a slide throttle and multi point fuel injection and mapped ignition(distributorless).
The ECU gives us the capability of launch control(not being used yet) and traction control(used in the wet only) and 16 channel data logging
the gears in the gearbox are cut at 90 degrees across the face of the gear. This way there is less loss of power than there would be going through a conventional diagonal cut gear. The down side is the noise
sorry just found this vid. The engine is a 3.1 on slide throttle with mapped ingnition and injection. still in developement and running around 200ft/lb of torque at 2000rpm. it would be reliable but expensive. around 3 mpg
block came from nissan factory It was aquired in the 70's when janspeed were trying to turbo the engine, and has thicker walls than a standard 2.8 block. even after boring out to 89mm there is still ample wall thickness.
no p[oint anyway...that datto has all racing kit thru it..once in a stock road registared car...it would be useless..ya wouldnt be able to get it registared...sit would be like tryin to drive a nascar from atlanta to to washington...ya would definately get pulled over:))
of course you'd be able to register it. just because it's a race car through and through doesn't mean you can't register it for road use. As long as it's either emissions exempt or meets emissions requirments you're good to go. It would be NOTHING like trying to drive a NASCAR spec car on the streets.
not sure bout that in aussie..anycar registered as a race car cant be registered on the road...already had that problem with a pro streeter..cause it was race proven..i couldnt get it on the road except for in the northern territory they had permitts...but i dont live in the northern territory
Nice car and nice driving!

With respect the marshals know what they are doing and know the car very well and the rear does not squat down that much anyway.
But thanks for the comments

I had too much air getting into the front. this has now been altered and an extra bracket fitted to hold the front of the bonnet.

Why is that idiot holding the fender at the start?? Does he really think he can stop it from taking off???
AnlooDeGekste 2 years ago
The marshals hold the car still after being lined up on the startline to stop the car rolling forward and therefore starting the clock early.
Bit harsh calling them idiots as without them the meetings could not run

certainly no turbo/supercharger or other forced induction used on this engine.

straight cut gearbox is where the whine is coming from

Car runs a 3.1 stroker on throttle bodies and fully mapped ignition system. Pushing out close to 270bhp. Not suitable for road use.

@zman240uk that's pretty low for a well built L28 3.1 engine with a race cam, actually
