beautiful, hearfelt, and so magnificently played. I keep trying to play this piece on my cello, just doesn't sound the same :). Something to strive for....Some people are just blessed with the gift of talent. A gift hard worked for I'm sure.
I know this piece so intimately, for so many years, and yet here I sit watching and listening with hot tears streaming from my eyes. What a miracle this piece is! and how sublimely these artists perform it! How beautiful is a world in which such incredible beauty exists.
The music is beautiful. The most amazing part during the performance was the total lack of physical motion by Amit Peled during the gorgeous tremulo. I'm just curious how he does that or is it magic? Now tell me, who is really playing the cello?
It's like me and my wife wannabee- my none existing firlfriend- all my ladies - and gentlmen, it;s the noblest title, i can think of, except on the field of battle - n o readdly, in the midst of it - keep cool, take a tree and smell the fresh rainm- you're daddy
Brilliant performance... Definitely bringing out those goosebumps moments. The only thing I would complain about is him not shutting up a bit when the piano takes the tune... He was playing around forte when it's marked piano... Rachmaninoff did consider it to be a sonata for cello and piano after all! Otherwise, awesome.
one word about the players- DEEPLY , profoundly Soulful and Moving. incredible...and i say that as a pianist that played plenty of chamber music also. BOW my head to these artists!
I put this wonderful performance on my list of Favourites months ago and don't remember video quality being this poor. This looks as if it's only running at about 12 frames per second. Any chance it could be re-uploaded?
this is really beautiful, its interesting to me how different this piece sounds from cellist to cellist! and kudos to the accompanist, a very sensitive performance
I thought so too, although it really depends on the angle. I have seen some of Yo Yo Ma's cellos, and, from a distance, his cellos look either huge or tiny depending on angle.
so I saw amit peled play schumann with this local community orchestra and Amit was actually taller, while sitting down, than the conductor who was standing on a podium.
I had the privilege of seeing Peled live, and he talked about that . . . not only is his cello slightly small, but he is a very large man. Tall, big hands, all that. He used to play a lot of basketball, if that gives you an idea.
this is a more musical and NATURALLY passionate performance than Yo Yo Ma ever gives. this is more about RACHMANINOFF - the cello and piano weaving tapestry together -- with both musicians giving their whole personalities RICHLY towards the music and for playing with each other, giving and taking.
Superbly done! piano/cello match: excellent! Amit truly captured Rachmaninov's intent with this movement. Romanticism at its best... Rachmaninov's use of range on the cello, ahh what genius!!!!
Have to echo the below comment, I too am familiar with Yo-yo Ma's version, but this is really, really, really well done. Such a lot of emotion, and so sympathetic to the other's instrument. What a pleasure.

Amazing 4:16 part... This was just beautiful ... and felt... I am very used Yo-yo Ma's interpretation of this one... the tandem (piano and cellist) is felt... My God... Great interpretation...
Ahh, welcome to the 'fitting the piano and the 'cello part together' game! That's one of the hardest things about this piece, but you'll be fine so long as you find an experienced accompanist who you can get plenty of practice with.
I absolutely love this piece. Its the most beautifully cantabile'd piece rachmaninoff has ever written...it just CRIES out "im in love!!!" and the upper register of the cello happen to be my most favourite notes to hear...they create so much power.
Gorgeous!! Amit is a genius. And despite (or perhaps because of) his amazing technique, he has such a wonderful emotional connection to the music. To echo others, Bravo!

Why can't we see Peled's left hand reflect the wonderful vibrato we're hearing? Is the video that bad?

heavenly, deep music...true romanticism, profoundly touching, breathtaking, and beyond words. And I must say it, the cellist is so handsome...:)

perhaps he is simply a "giant, when sitting on chair - a incredible long torso", and the turtleneck-pull also lengthen him.
Nevertheless a great performance, thanks for posting.

I know this is probably a pointless post, lol, but he is playing a 4/4 size cello. Most 4/4 are that size - some just appear to be bigger.
