At Crowded House's recent Melbourne concert in November 2010, Neil Finn announced this song as Melbourne's song. It's about the weather, it's about living with the positives and negatives of life, anything you interpret the song as, it is a possibility, if you believe in it. Neil Finn's lyrics allow his audience's imagination to set into his songs, even without letting his own thoughts and beliefs of his songs fade. A truely talented musician that the world needs to see and hear more of.
I may be wrong, but I thought this song was about domestic abuse. The lyrics, such as 'smiling as the shit comes down', 'blood dries up', 'you can tell about a man from what he has to say', and the four seasons title, I think are an analogy for mood swings. But, its just a suggestion.
It was supposed to be a song about the weather in (I think Melbourne, but it might be Adelaide) Well, that is what they said but you can read other stuff into the lyrics. Personally, I think his comment about it being about the weather was him taking the pi** out a some reporter guy asking a stupid question. Duh, is it about the Weather...??
This is a great song about how fast the weather changes during a typical day in the Melbourne area. I really love the line "smiling as the sh*t comes down" to descibe how the periods of particularly miserable downpours of rain in the mornings that oftentimes bring lovely warm and sunny afternoons later on.
...and here I was thinking that it was about the ups and downs in the orthopedic footware stock market. Just goes to show how wrong you can be about things!
Awesome!

if you wiki the song you will see it is written about the weather changes in Melbourne.
Neil Finn has told an Australian newspaper that Crowded House was a proud Australian band and most of its songs were inspired in Melbourne.

The Song is not about Melbourne. Its about Auckland. He talks about "the Domain" thats Auckland Domain. Neil Finn is a Kiwi, not an Aussie....

The song is actually about the pleasures and pains or taking the good with the bad
Smilling as the sh*t comes down is about keeping a brave face while life around you seams to be collasping
For every positive in life there seams to be a negative around the corner and vice versa!
so yeah thats practically what the song is really about!
