@scotfreak it wasn't the BBC that produced it was for ITV made by a London studios at the time called LWT (London Weekend Television) all the episodes are on youtube and the TV movie which started it... Very good watch expect for the last two shows were pretty pants..

Series 1-9 were excellent 10-11-12 were good.. 13/14 were rubbish... first ten series was very focused on fires and other major incidents..

Filmed at the old RAF base Swinderby near Lincoln, the appliance that was blown up was one that had been stripped down for this program, filming was stopped to remove the original appliance to put this one in place

Believe me that must have been some hefty explosion to blow the doors off like that, each of those doors must be at least 6 stone (dead weight) easily, trust me I've carried them! Very impressve blow-up I must say, but very much staged to the trained eye.

This was the last time that Jaffa was firefighter. He was off work for a long time after that incident and I can remember him failing his medical. It was great to see him owning a pub right next to the fire station though.

I remember it was too, but I absolutely love live pryotechnic special-effects, what angles are chosen for to show them off to their best visual impact, especially ones as fiery and expensive as what was seen in this episode, if I remember correctly.
