As to what they look like, I think there are too many possibilities, but I think that nature would put them in a form that would help them survive, so I guess like us, they would be pretty symmetrical. The universe is a very big place, and so it seems logical that there would be at least one other planet out there able to sustain life. However this other life is not necessarily sentient and even if it is comunication or travel would be close to impossible.
