The repulsive prostitute camilla is like a CANCER that needs eradication perhaps a nasty fatal accident? This ghastly vile common creature camilla has almost destroyed the monarchy with depraved repulsive actions and manipulation of charles who has visibly demonstrated over recent years he has mental health problems. Clearly only William as Princess Dianas son is suitable to continue. Fortunately the Queen who will probably now live longer than her mother shows no signs of retirement!
happy birthday ma'am this country loves you ma'am for the service you have given her god save the queen from a loyal subject i would give my life for the queen if she asked me thats how much i love her
Why would I want to do anything like that? I can't even go and see her coffin. It's somewhere in Windsor Castle gardens. We are not allowed to go there LOL! Again, as I've said it before, THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!
No one arguments. I don't want to debate with someone who is clearly ignorant about our institutions! GO AND EDUCATE YOURSELF FIRST!
Leaving aside your ridiculous assertion about the 60,000 friends, the issue is not about the personal popularity or support for Queen Elizabeth II. The monarchical principle means that we are stuck with whoever, by accident of birth, becomes heir to the throne. It doesn't matter if they are half-wits, imbeciles or just plain wicked. Doesn't that strike you as just a tad weird in a society that claims to be democratic and aspires to be meritocratic?
The Queen of U.K is more democratic than a President of U.K ever could be because she represents all British people. Frequent selections of presidents would interrupt the continuity essential for an effective head of our country. Elected presidents will always be partials, whereas a Monarch will not be. The Queen and her heirs have been trained from birth for one vocation - that of discharging the duties of sovereign of U.K...........
...An elected president would owe his selection to a political faction, and this would publicly divide him from many of his countrymen and would make his claim to represent "the people" less convincing. Any event, most republics that have abolished their monarchies, have created simulated constitutional monarchies. These republics have abolished their royal government; yet have given their new republican governments the exact powers of the previous royal government...........
Why is thaving an elected president any less acceptable than having a prime minister who is the 'de facto' head of state. My MP represents me even though I didn't vote for him. If enough people are dissatisfied with him he will be removed at the next election. Seems fair enough to me. Anyway, in what sense does the monarch represent me - she's an Anglican - I'm an atheist - I abhor blood sports - the Queen hunts .... Need I go on?
It's not the matter of religion! Your MP can be an a Catholic! He will still be YOUR MP. And by the way, the Queen hates hunting and fishing, her family loves it!
... This begs the question of why change something to something exactly the same? The Monarchy is more democratic than a republic. Britain is a constitutional monarchy - the most democratic type of government today. If fact, most of the world's democracies are constitutional monarchies, whereas the majority of undemocratic nations in the world are republics. Of course there are exception.........................
We must be using different definitions of the word "democratic". We are not democratic because of the monarchy but despite it. If you're telling me that some so-called republics are undemocratic, I agree. In any case, it isn't a question of replacing the monarchy with anything. When I had my appendix removed I don't recall the surgeon asking me what I wanted to replace it with.
So, what do you think we should have after abolishing the monarchy (which won't happen and I can explain that to you in great detail)??? 17% of the republicans in this country wants a president after abolishing the monarchy! And worse, APPOINTED president with same symbolic and ceremonial role and no emergency powers (in other words Royals Prerogatives, which can protect our rights)!Or are you suggesting to let parliament rule alone! Well, after seeing the state of this country, I think MPs...
I see you regard yourself as an expert on matters constitutional. For your own credibilty, find someone better to quote from than David Starkey, an academic, populist bigot no serious historian takes seriously. Actually, we have never been a real republic - we were at one time a Commonwealth under Oliver+Richard Cromwell. Comparing a modern republic with that period is as silly as it would be to compare the reigns of Elizabeth II with Elizabeth I. An expert such as yourself should realise that.
I am not saying that Starkey is the smartest man in the world but making a point that we were better ruled under them than today under so-called democracy! And many people would agree with him and if you really want an expert opinion then here is a quote by my fav. author of all time (after Agatha Christie perhaps), "The best reason why Monarchy is a strong government is, that it is an intelligible government. The mass of mankind understand it,........
...The State functions more easily if it can be personified. An elected President who has stepped out of politics, like the French President, is no substitute for a King who has stepped in by right of inheritance. Still less is an active politician, like the President of the United States, a substitute. We can damn the Government and cheer the Queen!
There is a sense of easy communication between monarchy and people,..........
...which politicians by nature are unable to develop. British participate fully in their Queen's life; they are involved in her activities during homecomings and through the media. Many new British readily identify with our British Monarchy, which is a living institution of the twentieth century, constantly changing and adapting to our modern way of life. Moreover, the colour and ceremony, which surround the Monarchy, attract the interest of British.
British participate fully in her life? Constantly changing ...living institution ...adapting? Are we still discussing the British monarchy? I don't wish to appear rude but in the words of John McEnroe: "You can't be serious!"
Well, I can tell you all this in great detail but in short, I would like to remind you, "The Queen's Silver and Golden Jubilee." Media thought British no longer wants to know anything about it but I remember vividly, millions of people were there partying all day and night. There were concerts, street parties and about 2 million people saw the Queen riding in the goldcoach! Now, gov't has already starting to plan, The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and Prince William's marriage in also coming!
People like to party. What does that prove? The Romans enjoyed bread and circuses - I don't think that necessarily meant they were particularly fond of Nero. (By the way, I'm not comparing Nero with Queen Elizabeth before you take offence).
Yes, there are corrupt MPs - you will also find one or two less than savoury monarchs in our history. But corrupt MPs can be thrown out - just wait and see what happens in the next general election. Why not let Parliament rule? All the checks and balance needed can be provided in the current system - with a properly elected second chamber: maybe chosen by PR. If you think that wouldn't work you're in effect saying that the people cannot be trusted to govern themselves. So much for democracy.
Since Victoria no monarch has been corrupted! And even if the are, they don't rule; they reign! I mean, they don't run our nation. In times of emergency they can. But that's rare!
Edward VIII was slapped by his mother when he said tat he wants to abdicate! She said "what is love compared with duty?" and that's why she traind Elizabeth II to appear almost heartless, woman without emotion!
She also said to him, "Remember that life is made up of loyalty: loyalty to your friends; loyalty to things beautiful and good; loyalty to the country which calls you King."
Oh...I know about his life, PERHAPS, you would like to read the letter my his mother to him!
Anyone who fears that by becoming a republic we would condemn ourselves to a presidency held by a perpetual succession of superannuated politicians - at the moment presumably a choice between Heath, Kinnock, Thatcher and Major - is an optimist. The alternative nightmare scenario looks not to the European model but to the American, where the essentials for election to the presidency appear to be ruthless ambition,..............
...access to vast wealth, reckless promises of patronage and preferment, effective control of a big slice of the media and a plausible TV manner. We dont know when we are well off.
...Such nations as France, and the USA are democratic republics (while in power, U.S president does whatever he wants to. He doesn't care about his people's opinion), but by far, the majority of republics are undemocratic. The residual powers of the Queen make the monarchy more democratic. The Queen for example, has the power to dismiss a prime minister who is doing something illegal or is tampering with the democratic machinery in her kingdom. Upon the dismissal,..............
...the Queen can call a quick election to promote democracy. First, I would like to know will the president appointed or elected? ? If appointed, what's the difference and if elected, why to waste millions of dollars for something that is working remarkably well. I think the Queen as an absolute monarch could deal with this economic problem better than our elected ministers. Our politicians are doing awful job. Do we really need another politician? And who exactly,..............................
...President Blair or Brown, perhaps? DEMOCRACY CAN BE BOUGHT! MONARCHY CANNOT! Let me remind you, my dear friend, India, Pakistan, I don't think I have to tell you all other un-democratic republics! India is called the world's largest democracy, is that country really democratic? My grandfather was the officer in British-India and stayed there even after the independence in 1947.............
.... I have studied Indian politics; so, let me tell you, starting from Nehru, then Indira Gandhi then Rajiv Gandhi then Sonia Gandhi now, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi! IS THAT DEMOCRACY?
Then we move to Pakistan, Bhutto family! Then USA, Bush family! I've just heard that Bush's brother is coming to politics now! In coming years, who know, probably Obama's daughters will enter the politics! Not to mention, American Royal Family - The Kennedys!!!
If your talking about the dynastic principle within democracies you've left out quite a lot of examples. In Britain we could cite the Churchills, Chamberlains and many more. The big difference is (1) they were elected and (2) they can be removed. e.g. Churchill in 1945. If you feel strongly about it you can enter politics and make it all the way to Prime Minister. But you're never going to become head of state. Well, you should never say never - but a lot of people would have to die first.
I think you're confusing Iran with Iraq but I see what you're trying to say. However you're talking about countries with little or no tradition of democracy. There's no comparison between Tsarist Russia and modern Britain. Surely you must be able to see that.
Anyhoo - I don't know what time it is in Canada but I'm getting a little tired (not of talking to you - just tired). I've enjoyed the discussion. Nice to be able to discuss these matters in a civilised way without name calling. We haven't changed each other's opinions but maybe we understand them a little better. All the best.
We don't elect our head of state so she isn't unelected.
Idiot. Shitting on people who are related to the great Anglo Saxon kings of old (yes, by being German they are actually more British than many in this country).
So she isn't a fraud either like all the Norman Frenchie kings either.
Hearing Brian May playing our National Anthem on the electric guitar brings back all of those fantastic memories of 2002 and the wonderful celebrations for Her Majesty's Golden Jubilee. Considering she never wanted to be queen this woman has done an excellent job. She is first and foremost a true lady.
