This is a great tip. Thank you. It really falls right into what I've been seeing on tour lately. With the pace of today's game, there's no time for baby steps..I used to think large steps then baby steps when I get closer to the ball..Watching Federer, I see that he actually hops a lot to adjust at the last second. So, this video completes the cycle for me. So, if I take larger steps, I can step right into it, but if I have to make an adjustment, I could use the hop step. Right?
I understand the shadow stroke/larger footstep practice move, but when the pace of the ball picks up, I believe smaller adjustment steps come into play automatically.
When I worked through the Bailey footwork method, it made a huge difference to my game. I think the issue with big vs. little steps all depends on how far you have to move to the ball. Take big steps for balls further away from you and hopefully as you get closer to the ball you can decelerate with small adjustment steps. Small steps are great so that you can avoid a contact point too close to your body!
