  • Great weathering Al! Any luck finding the AC4400CW yet?

  • Never ever? Ok the good news PROWEATHERER is I have a place to send you to actually SEE it. Go to Railpitures . net OK? Then click Steam 4-6-6-4 for the kind of engine. Then click Union Pacific for the Railroad and then click SEARCH. BOOM!! You will three pictures of the same engine #3985 that has all that white in the back near the cab. Then come back and reply like this "Hey I SAW a challenger with that much white near the cab TODAY" Is that ok? Peace out

  • nice job al.

  • Thanks but apparently someone clicked the thumbs down button so that means that person diagrees with you and your comment

  • dont know why but nice job any way. u think u could do that for my O gauge big boy. the only problem would be getting it there with out a box breaking cause it about 30 lbs.

  • If you can get it here I WILL WEATHER IT. Shit if you send me a 1:1 scale one I will TRY to weather it. LOL

  • I love it!

  • Hey whats up nice job steam locos are harder to weather i think. Hey another thing do you use micro set from microsol to set decals. If so did you notice it smells like vinager.I am going to try it on ascrape piece just to see. If it is viager no more $2.99 for a small bottle later.

  • very nice job a litle to much rust instead of grime for me though around the firebox

  • Hello! Very nice weathering job on the steamer.

  • Niiiiicccccccccccceeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great job!!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • awesome 5*

  • you should do a video of all you trains running in a power move or just have some of them pulling freight

  • If you ask me, (I am an all around steam fanatic) this is BRILLIANT! Well done, bro!

    Dan

  • Thanks dawg!

  • thats pretty insane for ur first stem engine!

  • where's your club layout at?

  • My clubs layout website is at w w w. MPRR . o r g We are located in South Eastern Connecticut Check out the website

  • Thats pretty dam good

  • WOW thats really nice

  • wow as always very very very nice

  • sweet !

  • nice work

  • Nice job you should be proud

  • great job onj it al! i love it!

  • i really want a big boy in n scale but the one by athearn is like $450, which is really over-priced if you ask me.

  • where are u shoppin? cause at my hobby store, a big boy with dcc and sound, is $315

  • thats what the price the store gave me was and it was online so yeah....... but i'll look around some more

  • oh ok, well like i said, my hobby store was selling them with dcc and sound for $315. but keep looking.

  • i looked on athearn's website and it said that the big boy and challenger in n scale were discontinued, so, do you now where else i would find one?

  • well, my best guess would be at a hobby store. thats where i saw the $315 ones

  • do you know of any hobby stores near nashville that would carry them?

  • ummmmmm, nope sorry. u can probably check some model railroad magazines. they have them in the back. or ill send u some in a pm

  • send me some names of shops that carry them(or the website) and i'll look through my issues of model railroader. i really want a virginian mallet too, but i know how to find where to get one

  • well, i would send u names of the places, idk if they have them or not. but u can check

  • so you'll send me some?

  • yeah ill try han gon

  • this looks great! i know for a fact that ALS2001 will love it. you are totally awesome

  • All I have to say is is GREAT! I cant wait to see the work in person!

Also, it is an Athearn Genises!

  • really nice

  • sweet dude that engine looks amazing!

  • damn al looks good in my opinion!!! Nice work!!

  • Thanks. After the first step of fading the black down it was ALMOST good enough to call it done but I matte finish sprayed it and added weathering powders to further the weathering. If I wanted to make it lighter I would have did only one layer and stopped. It look good then

  • Thats gorgeous! Athearn Genesis right?

How did you weather it? Was it an airbrush?

  • I do not know the maker of this engine sorry. It was not in an Athearn Genesis box though. I did not use an airbrush. I used black acrylic paint from Walmart that you may have seen in my video from last week or so. Anyway black and white acrylic paint mixed together to make a dark gray color then after the color was good I added about 1/4 cup of water to it to thin it way down. After that I painted a few coats over the whole engine to the color shown. Then I weathered it with powders.

  • I'll have to fool around with those techniques.

How were you able to weather the wheels? I've thought about doing that with some of my steam engines, but I'm scared that the weathering would get into the drive rod bearings.

  • Great work, I never seen one that dirty before!

  • Now you have. most people do not want to weather their expensive ass steam engines so they usually stay nice and CUTE until the old ass guy dies off and the family sells that shit off for less than 1/4 what he originally paid for it.

  • I like to have that UP you got with you box of stuff lol great weathering great great job .

  • This is quite amazing. Another great job Al and I bet Jim will really enjoy it.

  • I hope he likes it

  • Wow. For being a first-timer you did awesome, Al.
