This show is way too epic! I remember every episode and all the shows before all Gargoyles. The 80's and 90's were so great it had all the best shows. Seriously; 75% of the characters (including extras in the background) are played by Jeff Bennett. It's a fun drinking game, taking a shot every time Jeff Bennett talks to himself in this show.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this is probably the single worst thing that Xanatos does. Sure, he kills people and all of that good stuff, but this time he rips a brother and sister apart and betrays the one person who actually liked him, putting him through a lot of physical pain and psychological torment. And for what? World domination? One hundred billion dollars? No, just for a handy new henchman.
I'm disappointed. I expected Elisa to try to shoot him over this.

But the worst part is that, in the end, Xanatos did win. He'll never be prosecuted, the Gargoyles are more or less his allies, and most people don't even hate him. And he has all of his money, a beautiful wife, and a little kid. Of course, Derek and Goliath and Elisa have all of those things to, but they actually deserved them.

One hallmark of some really good story telling is multi-layers so that varying audiences can enjoy the same thing for various reasons. The best animated shows have things that kids can enjoy but also higher concepts that adults (and those same kids once they become a bit more sophisticated and knowledgeable) can enjoy as well.

This show was taken off the air in season 3 for bad ratings and not doing as well as Power Rangers... yea right!!! This show was awesome then and it still is now!!! Power Rangers still only captures the younger audiences while Gargoyles still has its original viewers of yesterday, who are now all grown up and the newer viewers of today! My little cousin loves this show and I do still!!

There's reason there are three TV tropes named after him: Xanatos Gambit, Xanatos Roulette, and Xanatos Speed Chess. There's also apparently Xanatos Thirty Gambit Pile Up, but I haven't read up on that one.
I figure that Xanatos is like Lex Luthor...and like him, I'd expect a great memory and understanding of any process...that he should know how to recreate the cure. I forget where this goes, but I think he's in on it.

I love how this show displays each Gargoyles emotions. Brooklyn's for example, when he turned to stone, his face was still Sad and you could genuinely see it.
And that's why 90s cartoons were the best; they weren't afraid to leave the audience a bit sad, or even to introduce death and murder (even if it was falsified). Nowadays people shirk at the sight of blood, cringe when there's an innuendo, and emo when the show ends without a happy ending.
On another note, I have two words of epicness for villain voicing:
How come it's so funny to watch someone be electrocuted? Don't act like I'm the only one that laughed!
And, now it's his castle, Goliath? Hmmmm? Hahaha, looks like he's almost learning. Now, if he could only understand that humans aren't understanding. 99% of them will never accept him & his kind.
@PharoahAfro maybe. But then, what's he supposed to do? Live in secrecy for the rest of his life? Despite all the romanticism around the idea (like for vampires, etc.) it sounds like a very depressing way to live to me.

If it is depressing or not depends on your perception of his situation. It is rather foolish to be depressed about something that he can't change. And, he does have his clan + Elisa. He need not be depressed. Besides all of that they clearly do not choose to live in complete secrecy. (Comparing Gargoyles to Vampires? A stretch)
Why couldn't Xanotos just be honest with Derrick? Or give him a half-truth like Maggie, telling him he could be the first man to fly without an airplane? And does anyone else think Xanotos had planned on mutating Derrick since the day he found out Elisa had a brother?
It is possible the plan to mutate Derek happened later. Remember, it had been eight months since Derek was hired. Something could have ghappened to give Xanatos the idea that Derek could make a good test subject.
@mejercit I didn't know that 8 months had passed. But it makes more sense now, rather than if it had happened a few weeks after the episode when Derrick was turned to the Dark Side.
Is it just me, or do they switch artists constantly? I never noticed it when I was younger, but there are subtle--and not--details that are changed. The shape of the eyes, the body contours, and sometimes I even caught slight shading differences. Does anyone know whats up with that?

I love how this show displays each Gargoyles emotions. Brooklyn's for example, when he turned to stone, his face was still Sad and you could genuinely see it.

And that's why 90s cartoons were the best; they weren't afraid to leave the audience a bit sad, or even to introduce death and murder (even if it was falsified). Nowadays people shirk at the sight of blood, cringe when there's an innuendo, and emo when the show ends without a happy ending.

@PharoahAfro maybe. But then, what's he supposed to do? Live in secrecy for the rest of his life? Despite all the romanticism around the idea (like for vampires, etc.) it sounds like a very depressing way to live to me.

If it is depressing or not depends on your perception of his situation. It is rather foolish to be depressed about something that he can't change. And, he does have his clan + Elisa. He need not be depressed. Besides all of that they clearly do not choose to live in complete secrecy. (Comparing Gargoyles to Vampires? A stretch)

Why couldn't Xanotos just be honest with Derrick? Or give him a half-truth like Maggie, telling him he could be the first man to fly without an airplane? And does anyone else think Xanotos had planned on mutating Derrick since the day he found out Elisa had a brother?

I do not know.
It is possible the plan to mutate Derek happened later. Remember, it had been eight months since Derek was hired. Something could have ghappened to give Xanatos the idea that Derek could make a good test subject.

@mejercit I didn't know that 8 months had passed. But it makes more sense now, rather than if it had happened a few weeks after the episode when Derrick was turned to the Dark Side.

Is it just me, or do they switch artists constantly? I never noticed it when I was younger, but there are subtle--and not--details that are changed. The shape of the eyes, the body contours, and sometimes I even caught slight shading differences. Does anyone know whats up with that?
