When somebody hasn't got the original raspy voice that Dylan has he shouldn't try to imitate it. This song could be sung with a much more natural voice.
Stick to your own content, you're much better at it. I didn't mean any insult about your rendition of the song. I'm sorry, but like i said.. You're better off sticking to your own original music and lyrics..
YIKESSSS... Please don't ruin a master creation like that ever again. Leave it to The French, they could Muck up a wet dream!!! OMG, I hope they didn't broadcast that, Dylan would have a coronary..!!!
First of all thanks for the compliment. And about the CD's; all CD's are with the band. On the last CD (called John Dear Mowing Club) are a few solo-songs. I'm sure that when you look around the net you'll find some examples so you can decide. If you want a Smutfish-cd (same musicians, different name) I recommend the first CD, called Lawnmowermind.
I am an absolute nut where Dylan's music is concerned, and I think you did an amazing interpretation of this beautiful song. The trouble with most Dylan covers is that they try to sound like Dylan. And they fail horribly and completely. Your version is both true to yourself and true to the music and what more could any audiophile want?!
Hi man, I'm according to you for what regards the knowledge of Dylan songs but cmon u did a song that was miles away from Not Dark Yet, at least u should have said that was some kind of reinterpretation of it.I'm not speaking about your skills just about the fact that u changed the song too much. Bye
Then you must feel cheated when you hear Bob's live version, which is miles away from the studio cut. And you probably think Hendrix should apologize for the passionate electric revision of "Watchtower." And shame on Johnny Cash for the countrified sorrow he injected into "It Ain't Me Babe." Like the best covers, it stays close to home in structure, chord progression and melody... yet offers a refreshing dose of originality deeply true to the essense of the song. Betcha Bob D would approve.
why? first of all I don't like your voice, and your empathy is too sad during the singing, and actually if it wasn't for the words I thought you were singing another song. Really a bad interpretation, sorry for the truth, nothing personal.
Hi Hellen really it wasn't very clear that he did not imitate dylan. Actually my brother was wacthing the video and I heard from the other room and I asked him whos the guy trying to be Dylan I can send you live version fo Not Dark Yet, and you will listen that he is trying to sing like him, only that he is not even close. But heyy If you like it it's good! See you
You made this song your own...Youve got such a unique sound you dont need to cover peoples songs. Sounds Awesome!!! Actually I showed two of my friends Leather Pants today, they were really impressed!! You Rock Melle!!!
Hi Louise, thanks for your comment! Melle doesnt like to do covers, but well...this was in "Bob Dylan week"... so what can you do? And thanks for sharing Leather Pants with friends! Best, Ilse

i'm thinking pretty heavy about buying one of the mowing club cds... is the music more like the melle acoustic stuff or is it all full band stuff?
thanks, keep up the good work.

I don't know this song. When I hear you sing I would guess that it's from Neil Young ;-)
As you said it's not an old song of Bob. Is this from one of his official albums?
Great song and great performance, thank you.
JohnnyBazooka 4 years ago
Hi JohnnyBazooka, it's a song from the album Time out of mind (1997)
And about Neil... maybe every man that sings with a high voice sounds like Neil for most people. Its just Melle's voice.. Best, Ilse
