  • my moms got schizophrenia trying to find a way to find a cure naturally shes got it really bad my whole life shes had it since i was young iamk 22 now my dads in total denial about pretty tough to deal with

  • @pjacob2010 Jacob, I'm so sorry. Dr. Hoffer wrote several books on natural treatments for schizophrenia. "Orthomolecular Treatment for Schizophrenia" is only $6. The Kindle version is $3. Search on Amazon for "abram hoffer schizophrenia" to see his books. I will also be glad to email you some audio clips of Dr. Hoffer talking about schizophrenia and natural treatments. If you are interested, send me an email a larryhobbs [at] gmail [dot] com and I'll send you the audio clips. Larry Hobbs

  • @pjacob2010 the main treatment program consist of eliminating white sugar, testing for allergens (as these can actually cause hallucinations) and taking vitamin B3 B6 and C in certain dosages. There are other vitamins aswell, but these are the main ones.

  • @ethiopianKid1991 I am sorry to hear about your experience with psychiatrist as an adolescent. I encourage you to look for an orthomolecular doctor to help you. It's easier to get help from someone with lots of experience doing this. I would send everyone with any mental disorders to Joan Mathews Larson, PhD, if I could. She is the best and uses no drugs. A guy named Robert Sealey wrote Finding Care for Depression has talked about how drugs made him worse and Orthomolecular medicine cured him.

  • @ethiopianKid1991 I have some audio clips of Robert Sealey giving a speech at an Orthomolecular conference in 2007 talking about how he had anxiety and depression for 28 years -- from 17 to 45 -- and how the drugs made him worse, and how psychiatrist failed to help him. I will be glad to post the audio clips for you to download if you are interested in listening to them. If so, just send me an email at larryhobbs[at]fatnews[dot]com and I will post them and send you the link. Larry Hobbs

  • @ethiopianKid1991 I found the 2-minute audio clip of Abram Hoffer MD PhD talking about schizophrenics having major food allergies and telling the dramatic story about the schizophrenic who, after eating ice cream, became depressed within 2 hours and psychotic within 3 hours. I will post it on YouTube eventually, but if you'd like to listen to it now, just send me an email and I will send you the audio clip, My email address is LarryHobbs @ Fatnews.com. Larry Hobbs

  • @ethiopianKid1991 Abram Hoffer, MD, PhD also found that at least 50% of schizophrenics have major food allergies. He said it can be an allergy to milk, wheat, eggs or any food at all. He said an allergy to dairy & wheat are the most common. He told a dramatic story about a young schizophrenic who he had gotten off of milk and was doing very well, and then the person decided to eat some ice cream, and was depressed within 2 hours and psychotic within 3 hours. • @ethiopianKid1991 *in my area

  • @ethiopianKid1991 I am sorry to hear that you are stressing badly. I would keep looking for an orthomolecular psychiatrist to help you figure out what works for you. There is also a DVD about people who were treated with modern medicine and drugs, and then orthomolecular medicine, and told how much better it worked. A 15-minute preview of the DVD is posted here: orthomed[dot]org/isf/isfmasks[dot]html Larry Hobbs

  • @ethiopianKid1991 Good luck. I wish you well. You might also look at Joan Mathews Larson's website JoanMathewsLarson[dot]com. Dr. Larson is the best. You can also search for only the pages on her site containing certain words by doing a Google search like this "site:joanmathewslarson[dot]com schizophrenia". This will show you all the pages on her site where the word schizophrenia shows up. Larry Hobbs

  • I was wodering..What was Dr. Hoffer opinion on Folic acid?..There are alot of clinical trials being done on it to treat depresion

  • @rollinglibs1012

I don't know what Dr. Hoffer thought about folic acid.

I don't remember ever hearing him talk about it in speeches that I've listened to, nor do I remember having read anything that he wrote about it.

You might search Joan Mathews Larson, PhD's website to see what she says about it.

She has used an orthomolecular approach since 1980 -- same as Dr. Hoffer.

Great site with tons of info on anxiety, depression etc

  • @larryshobbs abram hoffer talks about b12 and folic acid in his book 'orthomolecular medicine for schizophrenia'.

  • i suffer from paranoid schizophrenia and i now take niacin, vitamin c and a b 100 complex...... i was in contact with mr. dishininger from the us who helped me a lot, and who wrote a foreword for dr hoffer... i'm very happy, that there is a way to cure schizophrenia. i'm very interessted to see my progress. i wanna make this info about healing schizophrenia big in germany because it sux to take drugs, instead of correcting the chemical imbalance

  • @TheRawcoder

Good luck. Let us know how you do.

Dr. Hoffer also noted that many schizophrenics have food allergies such as an allergy to milk.

He also talked about the importance of a good diet.

You can find articles written by Dr. Hoffer on schizophrenia by doing the following search:

  • @larryshobbs i'm following the raw food diet since a year, and this was really good for me. i lived two years in good shape, than i had an relapse and now i wanna combine the raw food diet with the orthomolecular medicin. just fruits and vegies and no animal products

  • @TheRawcoder

A raw food diet sounds like a great idea.

    Thanks for letting me know.

  • so this is only for schizo? what about other conditions?/?

  • @delagrazia

If you are referring to the video of what Abram Hoffer took, this is simply telling what he took for health.

Dr. Hoffer, himself, did not have schizophrenia.

The list of the things he took is NOT necessarily what he gave to schizophrenic patients.

If you are referring to Joan Mathews Larson, PhD and her treatments, she deals with other conditions such as depression, anxiety, and drug and alcohol problems.

You can find info about her at

  • larry, my husband has chronic paranoid schitzophrenia. When I began to learn about schitzophrenia and that my husband would potentially have a shorter life span among other struggles I started looking for a better way. I just recently came across Dr. Hoffers findings. I have bought orthomolecular treatment for schizophrenia and hoffers laws for natural nutrition. can you lead me to alisting perhaps of dr. hoffers others books and publications? please help!

  • @heavyman25 Call Joan Mathews-Larson, PhD. She was friends with Dr. Hoffer. She has been treating people with natural treatments since 1980. She is a pioneer. If she can't help, she can tell you who can. • @heavyman25

On the ARCHIVES site for the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine, you can simply search for "schizophrenia" to find the articles.

Abram Hoffer, MD, PhD wrote some wonderful, eye-opening articles about treating schizophrenia with large doses of niacin, etc.

As you have probably already discovered, although he discovered this more than 50 years ago, it still has not been recognized by modern medicine yet.

    Larry Hobbs

  • @heavyman25 Oh many people are sick like me. I need help too. May God bless us.

  • Thanks for this Larry!

  • @nEWwORLDhOARDER

    Thank you.

  • The B-100 complex is too much. Studies have shown that they can build up at toxic levels for those with poor kidney function (Andrew A. House, Spence).

Selenium shouldn't be taken at 600 mcg/d. Too much of it could cause mineral imbalances as selenium competes with other minerals.

30,000 IU of vit A could be toxic, more so if it's synthetic. (Myhre & Carlsen et al)

Omega-3s can cause oxidative stress and increase cancer. DHA is needed in minute amounts, but EPA is useless. (Chris Masterjohn)

  • @municipalmutualist Where do you get off making a statement that 600 mcg of Selenium is too much. I know of many people who take this amount daily. I have been taking 5000 mcg per day of Sodium Selenite for one year and there are scores of former cancers sufferers who are taking this amount. Hoffer lived to 98 and had a full life and no problems that you attest to.

  • @daltoz I agree with you that this dose of selenium is just fine.

    Larry Hobbs

  • @larryshobbs Hi Larry, I will do in the very near future. I am currently documenting many cancer sufferers who are on selenium and vitamin C and also those that have cured themselves with natural alternatives such as apricot kernals. As soon as I have the numbers, I intend to approach 60 minutes with the story. I also planned to contact Dr Hoffa and thank him for his research, but he died the month I was diagnosed.

  • Larry,

does anyone know why he didn't take a multivitamin? and what is his position on them? (whether he thought they were good or not)

    Thanks.

  • @pierrehar

    Pierre,

    I don't know.

Most multiple vitamins are just vitamins A, B's, C, D, E plus minerals.

That is exactly what he was taking, plus a couple other things -- lipoic acid and N-Acetyl-Cysteine -- so maybe it was his way of simply taking exactly the doses of each that he wanted.

  • Niacin does better than "normalize" cholesterol. It increases the HDL and decreases the LDL. And high HDL is the key to heart health.

BTW, do you have any idea why Hoffer died?

  • @cynthiaall

    Cynthia,

No, I don't know what Dr. Hoffer died from.

    -----

The reason for noting that niacin normalizes cholesterol -- yes, indeed raises HDL and lowers LDL in people whose cholesterol levels are too high -- is that doctors might think that they should avoid using niacin in someone with a low cholesterol level, such as someone with a total cholesterol level of 100, however this is not correct. Niacin can help normalize these people's cholesterol also.

  • @larryshobbs Dr Hoffa died in Sept 2009 at 98 years of old age. He was writing books and giving lectures up until his death after years of good health. I attribute my cancer cure to Dr Hoffa. I took massive amounts of Selenium and Vitamin C after I was given 2 months to live. I reversed my condition in 5 weeks and was back at work after 6 weeks. This guy is amazing. I was lucky I saw him interviewed in 1992 and purchased his book.

  • @daltoz Thanks for sharing your story. You might consider making a video of you talking about exactly what happened to you and post it on YouTube so that others can benefit from your experience. I agree that 600 mcg per day is fine.
