  • Witty, charming & intelligent - your vids & recipes are a pleasure. No avoiding the testosterone remarks from the guys but thats to be expected I guess? I make Hasselbacks on the BBQ often - cut, soaked, buttered, seasoned, wrapped in foil on the upper grill rack. They are always a special treat. Oh and for more decadence...aged grated cheddar strewn about. Thanks for some really outstanding recipes. All the best

  • I would say cook this for 1 1/2 hours instead of 60 min.

  • I could watch you read the phone book. you're absolutely charming.

  • i their called it because it such a hassel to cut their backs lol

  • A Swedish trick is to put the potato on a wooden spoon while cutting it. If you can figure it out, it's way easier :)

  • lol on the thumbnail i thought it was an enormous patato

  • @averagebetty

I'm born a few blocks away from Restaurant Hasselbacken ((the) Hazel hill) but then I moved to Gothenburg when I was 3. Hasselbackspotatis were actually invented out of necessity in the rough times during the 1940ies ultimately due to the activities of a silly austrian man with a little moustache. So they're not from 1700s. But they are SOOO YUMMY!!!! I've already had dinner tonight but I've gotta do Hasselbackspotatis tomorrow!

  • Made this 2 times now. First time was perfect, second time was a little bit too raw. But still very enjoyable! Thanks for this great recipe

  • @monique5714335 WooooHoooo! So happy to hear that - thanks for letting me know :)

  • @glitterbunny143 You are so sweet :) Thank you!!

  • They're called Hasselback because the -en at the end of hasselbacken is like the English "the", so calling them Hasselbacken Potatoes would be like saying they're THE hasselback potatoes... which in unnecessary. And weird. /knows things

  • @PrincessSushii Wow - thanks for the info on Hasselbacken v Hasselback. I like to call twitter "the twitter" and youtube "the youtube" but only because I think it's funny and unnecessary :)

  • how long do you bake them for?

  • @bluewalls88 Thanks for watching - All the recipe details are on my site :)

  • oh, betty, i love you.

  • I like to say, "NO! I Da Ho". Makes me smile. I'm gonna make these.

  • @stinky242 omg! I LOLd when I read this - I can't believe I didn't reply!! I guess because I told the people I was with and then had to explain it to them... So funny! No, I Da Ho!

  • Oh my gosh I just noticed it looks like a lobster tail! Looks so good! Must try it next time I buy potatoes!

  • @diamondwindstorm993 It totally looks like a lobster tail! I heard about a chef that made a lobster etouffee he served over the hasselback. I bet it was amazing :)

  • Love this version of a very old traditional potato recipe. I see comments that someone else has done a different style or added bread crumbs. That's the beauty of re-inventing a classic and being able to personalize it. The Idaho Russet Burbank variety was not invented till 100 years after this recipe was served at the hotel, but in the true spirit of creativity this russet works great in the recipe.

  • no more justin timberlake for you sara

  • home fries jersey diner style

  • @impalapez I've always loved Jersey ;)

  • Your doing it wrong. Hasselback potatoes have BREAD CRUMBS on them!!!!!

  • @santosbl01 You're just doing it differently. Maybe we're both wrong?

  • @averagebetty That would be mad!

  • As long as they are not Elizabeth Hasselback potatoes. She needs to stop breathing pronto.

  • why I am watching this?? I think i have to go to MAC

  • Yeah - nice! I love the tip about using two cutting boards to cut the potatoes!

  • @moofushu That sounds amazing!! I love your creativity!

  • Look at my girl carving a lobster tail out of a potato! : ) Lovin' the knife skills hon! lol And speaking of lobster tails, that's my favorite way to eat potatoes...as part of a New England clam bake. : )

  • @fabiochrist You are awesome :D

  • betty (sarah)!!!! missed your good cookin' & your sense of humour! :-)

  • Could I use a scalloped potato sauce on this and bake them in a casserole dish rather than on a cookie sheet? I think that would be such a fancy way to serve scalloped potatoes.

  • @prettyinpunk666 You absolutely can! That's a great idea - and so fancy... enemies will definitely become friends! xoxo

  • These look so cool. I think I may need a better/sharper knife before I try this though haha. My favorite way to eat potatoes is as garlic mashed potatoes.

  • @Smartass8504 Oh! I love garlic mashed too! And most definitely sharpen your knife before you try this :) -- Let me know how it goes...
