@SpitFire8212 The general idea for the atmosphere in Dead Space has been inspired by this movie, so I wouldn't be surprised if the design of his helmet has been inspired from there as well :)
@SpitFire8212 No. Isaac Clark's helmet looks like the Event Horizon, NOT the other way around. Event Horizon was first. That's like saying 'Road Warrior looks like Fallout 3'.
Also, the hypersleep chambers in Pandorum look alot like Event Horizon's window (cross shaped glass). Coincidentally, another great movie that made shit money because cunts would rather go see shit like Twilight. As per usual the critics pan movies like these because they only like shit with Meryl Streep.
The second time I viewed this flick, I brought along my own strobe lights, dropped some Estascy and was"tranced" by three hard-bodied bikini girls who gave me a "happy ending". In addition to my Nachos and Cheese. "DO YOU SEE"?
@fortminor85 This is a throw-back movie to an old late 70's flick called "The Black Hole", the only difference being the mad scientist in that movie wanted to enter a black hole and sam neil's movie designed a ship that could create one. A movie upgrade on steroids
@belzeebub1 Definitely full of mind fucks and head trips with this movie. Couldn't sleep the first time I've seen it. the image of Weir's dead wife still haunt me.
@belzeebub1 I saw The Black Hole on DVD recently - it definitely had to be an inspiration for this. If not for the cutesy robot Vincent, it would have been an epic. Even the USS Cygnus in the movie reeks of malevolence like the Event Horizon (although not alive).
@AEigner Yeah, the Cygnus was definitely malevolent. It had technozombies shuffling around, killer droids, and a murderous red robot. Even the endings were roughly similar. Both featured a descent into hell. Both featured a possible escape to salvation. Although you're not really sure what planet they just ran into at the end of The Black Hole... I'm surprised that nobody's tried to remake this movie yet.
@Suprasylph Joe Kosinsky (TRON: Legacy) is working on a Black Hole remake as we speak. But I don't think Event Horizon needs a remake, It's awesome as it is ; )
@Wolfie238 To a novice--one fresh to the song--it may sound like dread dissonance. To one familiar with the story however, it is the elixir of Cthulhu
Someone once said about this film "What's so scary?" So I replied...imagine being stuck out at Neptune in a situation that makes Hellraiser seem happy!
thats funny cause theres a hellraiser movie where its take into space.
but i think the best imaginary here is imagine the storyline of dante's inferno in space.but wheres theres only one level of hell and thats infinite space of infinite terror.
I didnt really find this movie scary. Thats to say it isnt a bad movie nor a bad horror movie. It creates a very interesting villian and situation that bumbs up the curiousity levels
If you can find it, find the uncensured and extended version of the movie (It is only 3min 54 sec longer) it is a LOT more scary there, especially if you pay attention.
@Gabriella292u It was actually longer than that! The studio at the time made the stupid decision to dump all the gore, what is left of the uncut footage only exits on a badly copied VHS which is still on the double disc DVD but as a special feature I believe...It's also on here somewhere and it is scary, especially when Dr. Weir climbs down a staircase upside with blood pouring from above him.
@HawaiianPrint0taku I rate Event Horizon as more interesting of a horror film than Alien. Alien was a monster-survival flick in a scifi setting; not bad, but not the same kind of creeping horror that you get in Event Horizon.
Old movie - must be watched more than once. A staggering horror show. "Event Horizon" - when you observe something from a distance and move to examine it more closely, but you move to it faster than it happened, causing you to get there before it actually happened. The Offspring sing about it in "you're gonna go far kid".
I think it is more like a startling movie... it manages to create a great atmosphere, but still is much more startling than scary. At least i personally believe there is a difference between being scary, and nearly killing me by some sudden montage of extremely disturbing pictures. Those kinda kill some scenes, especially the one where the black guy from the Matrix hears his former crew member's voice, who died in a fire. It was all awesome with the whispers in the halls, and then bamm!
Orbital sequence using Alesis MMT-8's , they have many , saw them a coupla weex ago @ Brixton , UK . Massiv show , go see 'em if ya get a chance . MASSIV !

Comparing Alien with Event Horizon isn't really appropriate. It would be like comparing the Shining with Hellraiser. It just doesn't work.

alien + hellraiser = event horizon =)

@lsd909
no... it equals Hellraiser: Bloodlines.
and... the equation should go space + hellraiser, because neither movie has an alien in it... it just happens in space.
