A truly remarkable pianist - how her fingers could move so fast with such accuracy is beyond me, and I don't reckon I'm too bad myself!! 11 out of 10 from me!!
Hey Mike, Thanks for posting our Winnie. You sound so much like her. 5***** I can't believe Harold, my boyfriend of long ago thought I sounded like this too.
It was one of the main reasons he married his "Little BOOGIE WOOGIE Country Queen," he said. ha I have been Joan Hollis Atwell for the past 38 years. Still tickling the ivories and loving it and much as you do.
That's quite a compliment Joanie. Winnie will always be the best!! I'm still enjoying all your clips (especially "Happy Birthday") . Keep playing xoxo
You know that you can have left-handed guitars and golf clubs but what about pianos? I once bought left-handed darts but they were rubbish - not worth the extra money!
Definatley...Oscar Peterson is from a technical point of view, one of, if not the best pianist ever, but no-one can deny that this is fun to listen to :D
much as I love this lady, the greatest recording of this tune must be by Art Tatum. Jelly Roll Morton explaining how he developed the tune from a French quadrill, on his Library of Congress recordings, is most informative if you can find a copy
Jelly-Roll Morton was a jazz great but he was also a terrible liar! Tiger Rag was composed by Nick LaRocca for the Original Dixieland Jass Band. It was the most recorded, and most plagiarized, jazz tune of the 78rpm era!
Winnie was always fantastic, many fond memories of her playing. She was my mentor for piano.
