  • Thanks for sharing this song/video. Good memories.

  • This song makes me feel old. I was in my teens in 1983-84.

  • She leaves the white guy and goes to the black guy. Thats racist...

  • I REALLY LOVE THIS SONG (: THANKS 4 SHARING (:

  • Hurricane Is Comin'

  • Okay, I can buy that last statement, but when did a percentage of black, become not black? Halle Berry is black. She has a white mother and is considered bi-racial, but when you look at her, you see black. tyra banks has two black parents, but you can clearly see she has a mixture of races in her background,. Just like many black people of today. No one is 100% black or white these days, you might say you are, or others my say you are, but are you really? blue eyed soul? black rocker? hmm..

  • considering how the record industry categorizes all their artists---- black aritsts r&b/hip/hop------ white artists pop/rock/dance or country------ i wonder what the record industry considered her? a white aritst or a black artist? her music is most cetainly pop/dance/rock no hint of r&b, but yet many thought she was black....her musical style would never work today

  • @discovery781. She is actually a Black Hispanic. Black Puerto Rican dad and White Cuban mom. she played "Sparkle", one of the best remembered and beloved Black films of the '70's. She also played Alex Haley's mother Bertha Palmer Haley in Roots. So the "may thought she was Black" comment doesn't work in this context. By the way, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Prince, donna Summer, Mother's Finest, the Time and a few other artist had simular rock/pop/dance sounds back then. She was not alone.

  • @kutnup all the artists you mentioned were/are undeniably black artsits and the industry looked at them as such---but Irene was not really a black artist or a white artist, sort of like Mariah Carey, yet Mariah is categorized by the industry as a black artist even though she is only 1/4 black....Irenes music is more categorically white, than it is black

  • @kutnup I believe she also played Myrlie Evers (widow of assassinated civil rights activist Medgar Evers) in a TV movie made around this time (1983).

  • Comment removed

  • @kutnup She also played Medgar Ever's wife later on...

  • Irene hit #13 in Billboard, 12-3-83. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • We had a little cousin we used to tease and he would cry "why me" and everytime he cried, we would sing out this song and he would stop crying and laugh.

  • oo si que me gusta ese sonido

  • @noclassatall I think that was a metaphor for the half-ass reciprocation she was getting from her boyfriend. Every time I watch this video I find something I didn't notice, before. This time it was that the new boyfriend's apartment has a little dance studio in it. No more scratched records. : D

  • @IWannabeJew

Well said. Many 80's videos are full of metaphores, subtexts, multi-meanings. Such as Cars video for "Drive" directed by actor Timothy Hutton. State hospitals. "The Shining." Sylvia Plath. Depression. Schizophrenia. Catatonia. Sedation. Suicide. Just a few free associations on that disturbing video.

(PS: I Wanna be Jew, too)

  • Irene Cara had such a thumbable butt.

  • cool track

  • HOT song HOT video HOT Irene!

  • i love this song it help me get through though tymes thanks

  • Oh my GOSH I had completely forgotten about this song...I watched someone's posting of her song "Breakdance" and then linked to this one. What a great pop tune, with such an excellent mix of ear-tickling synthesizer twiddles, rockin' guitar licks, slick 80s drum (machine) sounds and that wonderful voice. Thanks for posting!

  • this song also reminds of the song KNOCK ON WOOD !

  • IRENE CARA ALONG WITH GIORGIO MORODER PROUDUCED THIS AMAZING ALBUM WHICH IS A TURE CLASSIC WITH HITS LIKE THIS ONE, WHY ME, FLASHDANCE, THE DREAM AND MY FAVOURITE (BUT NOT A SINGLE) ROMACE 83. WE WANT IRENE BACK!!!

  • Such a superior vocalist with such a gorgeous voice. As a singer, Madonna is really shallow in comparison, has nothing in her voice or style like Irene has.

  • Memories <3 Nice SOng

  • I just heard this song for the first time in years on a replay of American Top 40 from 1983. I swear it was probably the first time I'd heard the song since it was current. AWESOME Georgio Moroder collaboration.

  • Me encanta este video porque me enseno dos cosas...la primera los hombres son unos ingratos!....la segunda no hay nada mas bello que una prieta con el pelo lacio!...

  • IMPRESSIVE how Irene Cara videos reminds me how good was The Reagan Years...

New York City Spirit is even better filmed in her videos: "Fame" and "Why Me?" show us the Beautiful Side of the Normal Living in that city "who never sleeps"...

And AWESOME the feeling she pass to the audience!

    Good old days.

  • @Hacker73 stut up you dont make sence

  • The power chords gave me a boner.

  • Her voice is good, but moroder makes this tune, in fact he makes all the songs on the album

  • When I was a kid I wanted to marry her.

  • @atmchickluva U weren't the only one! :-/

  • For decades I think I had her name confused with Mariah Carey.

  • so relavent now, you go irene!!! time passes but not the sentiment. xoxxoo

  • I would hit that any time she is hotttt

  • Remembering beautiful moments of 1983 with this song.

  • HIt #13 pop, #41 soul in Billboard. God bless!

  • I used to have such a crush on her when I was a kid,

  • LEGAL VER

  • One of the best Irene songs!!!!

  • Love the hair flip at 1:13 go on Miss Irene!

  • THANKS!!!!! I LOVE THE 80'S MUSIC

  • I always thought she sounded a little like Donna Summer.

  • It's hard to believe she was a regular on "The Electric Company" just 12 years before this song came out!

  • she is so active and sings wonderfully

  • 2:05 She pushes away the "used" drink right when she uses the word "used". This video is pure genius. I just noticed the new boyfriend at the very beginning of the video.

  • This came out in the spring of 1984 didn't it. About the same time that "Why me" from Planet P came out. Two different songs with identical names. Was there more than one Irene Cara? Because decades later there was an Irene Cara. Right? Or was she the same one.

  • @jityr2 Wow! You remember "Why Me?" from the Planet P Project! It took me FOREVER to find that video.

  • NaturVita, you might not like her voice now, after so many years of smokin'. Hit #13 in Billboard.

  • I'll admit when this song first hit the charts I didn't care for it. It was only about six months or so afterward when I began to appreciate it.

  • wow, havent seen or heard this in 3 decades, it was so gr8 growing up to this music...

  • I love her voice. I wish I had been a teen back in the 80's.

  • Una gran cantante, pero esos gringos son unos desgraciados por haber destruido su carrera

  • Yeah ... she was really amazing!

  • I liked this song ... should've done better!

    We're Ready by Boston

  • exellent!

  • Irene you still rock on!!!!!! Better than any fine wine out there you get better with time!!!!

  • I cant believe how awesome this music is. I am proud to come from this era...one with heart and sincerity

  • Boy,

this sounds just about as early 80's as it gets.

  • Wow...1984 I remember this song like it was yesterday. This video made me want to move to New York City.

  • Muy buena rola que no tuvo el éxito que merecía, al menos en México. la tengo grabada en mi casete 53.

  • I thought she was so cool.

  • OMG, I'd forgotten about this song and hearing it again brings so many memories from my childhood (yes I'm that old)! Thanks for posting.

  • I love Irene Cara's music! Wonder what she's up these days.

  • You're referring to the Cats Without Claws and All Systems Go albums. Her latest, Crayons, wasn't so great.

  • After the disco craze, Donna Summer created gold again by reteaming with Giorgio for Carry On and I Will Live for Love. They're perfect together.

  • Produced by Giorgio Moroder, of course.

  • Que buen tema .... te felicito ... excelente video... te agradeceria si pudieras publicar el video de Irene Cara ... Romance 83 ... es del mismo album ....

  • One of Irene Cara's best songs.

  • Her Breakdance record to me is the right example for a pop dance record with sprinkle of rap.

  • Maybe but this song is very chic 80s pop

  • I have been a fan of Irene's since Sparkle in the 70's. Then Fame and her Flashdance stuff. I remember dancing to this song in the 80's. Everyone wanted to look like her. She was beautiful. Thanks for the post.

  • I LOVE 80'S SO MUCH!!!!

  • she had a killer voice .. the 80s rule!

  • 80's...wearing legwarmers, dancing in the streets and wearing tights were considered fashionable..dig the teased hairdo!!! flashdance and fame were all over the place...

  • cute...

  • *sigh* songs like this is why I miss the 80s this weeks #1 on todays chart is "Boom Boom Pow" BY Black Eyed Peas.....sheeesh....whatever!....Why Me is ssssoooooo much more enjoyable to listen to! thanks to mitzicida for posting this one

  • No kidding. F the Black Eyed Peas.

  • Very nice song,Irene Cara Great!! 80's The Best!! thank you for sharing.. Irene from Mexico.

  • Irene Cara can pass for a dance instructor or fitness she is so active.

  • OMG this video brings back sooo many memories. I was a big Irene C fan back in the day!!!! I 4got all about this video!

  • i was just browsing in an antique store...and i saw this record...and i was like DUDE! TOTALLY SWEET!! so i bought it.

  • Reminds me to the thriller I seen, that she did with Raquel Welch NY underground.

  • A forgotten goody

  • I was 14 when this song played on the radio; I loved it then, I still love it today... awesome song!

  • I love this song!

  • This is definetly the most heartfelt up-tempo song ive ever heard.I really love her!..i can perfectly identify with this song. Its about really loving someone and receiving in return only ingratitude.

  • I'll never quit liking her. :)

  • Never knew they made a video for this.

I had such a crush on her back then.

  • my sister had the 45 record , man this brings back memories

    hooray to the mid 80's

  • 1983 not quite mid 80s.Close though.

  • Und wieder ein Super Lied aus meiner guten alten Zeit wiederendeckt : )

Und das Video sehe ich auch zum ersten mal.

  • did she kill her cat

  • I remembered this song back in the early 80s. Irene Cara was all of that back in the early 80s. I wondered what ever happened to her? She seems to have disappeared after 1985!

  • DoNNa SuMMeR the best singer to work with Giorgio Moroder, Irene Cara 2 steps near DoNNa..!

  • I didn't even remember that one! This is GREAT!!! Maybe even better than FAME and FLASHDANCE! (It isn't that much played..)

  • 懐かしいですね~ あの頃を思い出します。。

  • Amazing song by an AMAZING artiste

  • 80's Best Forever!

  • 80's Best Forever

  • I have not heard this song for so long. Thanks for posting it on. Love it.

  • Irene u need to return!

  • Memories of the 80s.. Nostalgia!

  • 5 stars. I just went out and bought this track off iTunes. I had the "what a feelin'" cassette when I was a litte kid... I must had listened to this some a hundred times back then.

  • ...like...there is LimeWire, bye.

  • i love this song!!!

i wish she would come back!!!

  • Irene's still out there. She formed an all-girl band called Hot Caramel and they're working on their first album now.

  • Me two, three,and four!!!

  • god i miss her songs and that time

  • Such a well-done video! I just noticed that the same guy she hooks up with at the end looks into the window just as she refuses the drink. His identity is confirmed later when he brings her a drink, as it shows her looking into the window just like he did. Intelligently written!

  • Brings back memories of the 80's!

  • yeah, check out the dorky guy with the forehead that does her wrong. How HUGELY funny is that!

  • First time I've seen this. Thanks mizticidad.

Funny how the barman had her drink all ready and poured in a glass for her! - 01:56

  • I suspect there is meaning to it, like how a glass is dropped there, just as in her apartment.

May refer to the boyfriend's not giving her real service.

  • Love that lady and her voice!

  • rae dong chong? donna summer? funny - i thought she looked more like irene cara. beautiful!

  • yup was 13 when this come out always liked her singing

  • wow! i remember this song. great song.

  • childkiss and enaeb.. I think both of you are right...She looks like a cross between both Donna Summer and Rae Dawn Chong.

  • Love it! My favorite Irene Cara song!

  • I was 16 and loved it.....had a garfield poster that said WHY ME? on it

  • I was 12 years old when this was on the radio back in 1983. Loved it! Guitar riff at the beginning was always my favorite part. Thanks for posting.

  • Wow, what a voice! Such extraordinary range and depth.Incredible.Harmonious.Precise.Full of immense heart, feeling, emotion anastounding soulfulness.

On top of that she is so gorgeous!

    Irene, we love you.

  • very well said !!! She's beautiful !!! One of my favorite songs !!!!

  • Faz muito tempo que eu procuraba esta cançáo, obrigado...

  • My theme song as of the moment. Thanks for posting! =)

  • luv this song! one of my favorites! 80's is one of the best!

  • where is she now?

no one may agree with me but I know she resembles rae dawn chong

  • She looks absolutely nothing like Rae Dawn Chong. I think you need to assess that one again. She looks more like Donna Summer!

  • yeah, this is the stuff she does best. this, breakdance, the dream, she excells at these hi- energy tracks.++++

  • I've said it before.... this what Alicia Keys is doing now only Irene's voice is stronger. Yes indeed her career should have been more successful and she should have recieved more credit than she has.

  • Irene deserved such a bigger career. This, Fame and Flashdance... What A Feelin' are all classics and she should be up there with Madonna and Donna Summer in the upper pantheon of dance divas

  • the question hanging above my head ...following me every inch of my life

  • i agree with all the above.

  • Love this song

  • haha my film teacher is the bartender who drops the tray

  • What a feeling it is to see and hear Irene Cara!

  • Giorgio Moroder was the producer for this second Irene Cara, Flashdance...What A Feeling...how awesome is that?

  • can't keep my feet still!!

  • one of my favorite songs...

  • I love the song...I love the video...I love the 80's!!!

  • Oh!! I've been lokking for this song.

    Thank you so much!!

  • My favorite Irene Video

  • Irene Cara; It's all: Irene Cara.

  • She always looks so cute and vulnerable, makes me just want to violate her!

  • Love it!

  • a good kind of beat to dance, but not reach the top stop during its time. Anyway I like the beat.

  • fuckin fab just amazing nrg...

  • really a damn good song - why wasnt it big?

  • It was fairly big. I remember hearing it on the radio quite a bit when it was out. It got to #13 on Billboard's Hot 100 according to a book I own. It's just not as remembered as "Flashdance... What A Feeling".

  • one of her best!
