@jojopuppyfish In the center of Highland Park it travels very slowly, waiting for traffic in some intersections. If you're traveling along the main path and hours of commuters from Pasadena or East Los Angeles to Union Station or the reverse, your travel time will be probably half on the rail compared to street traffic in your auto. If you need to take another train or bus at your exit, you will probably still be ahead, or very close to the same time, with less costs such as parking, etc.
Los Angeles's population density is second to Manhattan in some areas of the city that's why the heavy rail subway system is going to be extended to the beach via Purple Line subway.
California State Measure 1A - Safe, Reliable High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Act - comes close to this concept, without the monorail. For only 9.95 $B we can connect Southern California to San Francisco and Sacramento with a modern high-speed train. Vote on November 4, 2008. (Lot's of jobs created with this project as well!)
Still too slow. Doesn't it slow down to 10 mph in Highland Park areas?

It seems that the designers picked some really burly and efficient engines for these lines. The acceleration is nice and smooth.

More than enough power - also great scenery all the way to Pasadena!

What was the stop after Chinatown called?

Lincoln Heights Cypress Park Station

I like this line since it runs on it's own right-of-way and not in the street like some light rail systems.

Hopefully it will be extended beyond Pasadena in the near future, with money from Proposition R.

in the future LA should build a mono rail or however you spell it.
youayntfresh 3 years ago
Good idea! A monorail along the coast would be a scenic enhancement and provide relief to the overcrowded US-405.
raymuser 3 years ago
yes from santa monica to lax and further south.

As long as we're dreaming, why not go all along the coast with a monorail from San Francisco to San Diego?
raymuser 3 years ago
because it would be out of LAs jurisdiction.

I'm thinking more like Caltrans funding, an alternative to more freeways.

too bad LA won't get into the level of japans mass transit system

New light rail is currently being built in East Los Angeles. I don't expect Los Angeles to ever match the level of Japan, however.

Trick is to hold your camcorder very steady. This is shot with a high def HDD Canon HG10.
