Any time you use anything with a hard contact surface against paint you are going to scratch it...
I dont care how soft you think silicone is it is going to scratch it.
And I would Never use a cotton towel to dry a car for one its going to leave lint and unless it is a brand new towel that has never touched a dirty surface it is going to have dirt in it because of the way the fabric holds it....
Regular towels will scratch and cause swirl marks. Dry your car using microfibre... there are even microfibre towels on the market specifically designed for drying.
