  • God damn smaking of the lips

  • The audience is soooooooo empty. lol

  • @pmahaley Atleast 50,239! Empty? Lots nevermind empty.

  • mustv'e took'in them like a day to upload that!

  • blender is WAY harder to use

  • your'e freaking kidding me ITS AN HOUR LONG

  • dude when you think about it this is preety good for a FREE PROGRAM

  • I saw some more videos...and this is actually destroying my interest in 3D. Look how fucking ugly and lowpoly it renders, and there is no normal lighting...Yuck, I will remake this, with better lighting and faster algorythms! :D

  • when i was in 6th grade i had to use this to make a game

  • when i was in 6thgrade i had to use this to make a game

  • 8:35 thank you!

  • IT IS TAKING FOREVER...

    ITS SOOO LONG -___-

  • ITS A HOUR FUCKING LONG???????????????? Sweet

  • correct me, i see 58:17 seconds?

  • @AJDkool

I fiGured out how to use it in about a day and a half, and I'm fourteen. It's easy for me. I wouldn't give up quality for something like this. This seems a bit limited. :\

  • lol, "programming" for a dumbed-down generation with zero ability to master anything "technical" (such as C++). is this the direction Computer Science is heading? it's little more than "mutimedia design". :D how tragic.

  • @MustNotRead This is just for the first ever step, to get a person's head around basic concepts, they'd move on to something else later in school/at home. It's aimed at children mainly too. Your ego is misplaced here.

  • Haha... a four person audience.

  • this tool seems well on its way to being successful; however I wish that it would allow for the actual typing of Java code. If I already know it, then dragging-and-dropping is just gonna slow me down. couldnt it be a tool in the middle - so we could design 3d landscapes easily but still have control over good old style (eclipse) coding?

  • it looks that same

  • 1 hora o.O

  • BLender 3d is much better!!!!!!!

  • @ClayFacey3dbody blender is harder to use though

  • in our school (Chihuahua, México) we're learning to use it, is really easy to use and I'm happy with the program

  • wee

  • looks like a really great tool to use :D im ready to use this.

  • does anyone know how to make a radar in alice? I'm trying to do a jet fighter game.

  • I actually like this video. Very informative to the computer world. I didn't like the shout outs but thats just me. Lets go Alice!!

  • wow we got this program at my school only its 2.2 or something like that i like making little vids and stuf with it so fun making random crap like a jet crashing on a arcraft carrir and hiting a ice burg and sinking ;)

  • gotta love the 4 people in the audience.. xl

  • the student who says "and it's supposed to be exciting" wih the hello world thing is either not in the correct class or he already knows what she's talking about. I watched until 20:00 and there hasn't been any programming involved yet...

Alice 2.0 looks great for kids but I really don't see how it helps grasping any concept of object programming. (you have Smalltalk for that btw)

  • im in computer science and our class has alice 2.0 its such a piece of crap. its terrible

  • Agreed...

  • I wonder how many dicks alice can fit in her mouth

  • O.o

  • I think the first speaker likes you

  • If you have ever taken a computer science, math, or engineering class, then you would know that this is an admirable goal. And it is not racist to want to focus on minority women. And by the way, there are similar efforts in vocational education all over the world.

  • I cant wait for the beta to come out. It seems like fun. Maybe my kids will like it too.

  • it is out, i am downloading it now =) check the alice website, go to downloads, then select alice 3.0 or whatever and download it for your operating sytem

  • omg i remember using 2.0

    whens this coming out

  • BETA is out now :)

  • i know, but it doesnt work on my computer. im waiting for the full release

  • i am not looking forward to alice 3

i fear it will be far to easy to do a presentation with it.

  • Yay! They made Alice for Middle School Kids my age =3

  • i wish they would hurry up with 3.0, 2.0 is annoying, it lacks a lot of features

  • @sohiln Haha, 2 years old comment. Alice 3 is still no where near completion

  • I need high-speed connection to view this video. All I can muster-up is maybe a 1 or 2 minute flick that takes sometimes 1/2 hour to load. I would like to see what you are doing now with Alice 3.0. I'm sure its top-of-the-line stuff as Alice 2.0 is. Good luck guys!

  • Im Only 11 in the 6TH Grade and im usingit FULLY! :D

  • hay me to (when i was 11 lol) thats impresive

  • i was using it when i was 9, but i guess i explored it deeply when i turned 10.... btu whatevs. IT SO AWSUM

  • @LilJayz2 do you use if statements, then statements, and parameters

  • @LilJayz2 im 12 and I can use Blender and Unity 3D FULLY ( almost)

  • @superyomomma101 Good for you. :-)

  • @LilJayz2 nothin special

  • @LilJayz2 So what? Young fuckers always start their statements with their age.

  • @Studio102 I'm 14 now, Found a hobbie, quit using Alice. Whoopdy mother fucking do. Act your age and not you fucking shoe size. You are suppose to be way more mature then me yet you act like your 5. :-S

  • @LilJayz2 You dont know my age fucker. And your perobably in your thirties, get a life.

  • Never have a grown man say lure 12 year old girls, in any context, in a presentation, especially if you plan to post it online.

One giant leap (frog) back for the programming program.

    great idea but horrible presentation

  • sick program..and its free.

  • she is as good as naked U rascals;

this is what u teach kids ?

  • lol there was like noone there in the crowd lmfao

  • COMP SCI 1 WOOOOOO =D

  • I installed it and played with it today. I'll try teaching my 10 years old. I'm sure she will have fun with it.

  • I feel really bad about this idea and talk, for many reasons.

  • Umbrella anyone?

  • vaya 2 años de modulo y 3 de carrera técnica..para ver que los niños van a poder programar igual que jugar a la consola..flipante..

  • is it possible to extract the source code from the app and incorporate it in other projects using c++.

  • I can't believe that this woman finds acceptable that students think that programming a Hello world is not cool. I think the problem is they do not appreciate what's going on under the hood, they need to know more about digital design, computer achitecture, assembler. I't incredible that pointers and c++ is becoming something not desired in universities, what kind of engineer will we have, or maybe we want that electronic and telecommunicationenginneers take our jobs!!!! Amazin, lazy studens.

  • It's not that we find it...stupid. It's just that when we get into the class we expect to be creating games on day one (Whether we know how to do it or not). After spending time in the class, I realized that it wasn't that easy. Those who are really interested will stay in the class (or at least try to learn on their own how to program).

  • I'd like to hear how you think alice compares with RobotBASIC... see the video RobotBASIC: The POWER of simplicity

  • I am going to use it in Spain

  • is it free

  • Yes.

  • Shut up you idiot. I need to learn how to use this as a module for collage! Tnx for the the help btw!

  • woow, how long did it take to load this thing!

  • wow this is gonna be amazing

  • Great vid still watching but needed to comment. This looks like an awesome program also i have to use it this fall for cs 111 can't wait im going to pick up the book for it soon also :D

  • AWESOME!!!...now look at a longer one "Randy Pausch Last Lecture"

  • We use CrypticAR

  • my friend is a program :)

  • all your friends are programmes. lonely life you got eh!

  • no i meant my friends name is alice lol

  • its an amazing program we have it at school

  • our school has it too i go to scitech

  • A Preview of Alice 3.0, Introductory Programming in 3D

    ......

It said so on the title.

  • -_-

    ... Read the description.

  • i cant believe the video is an hour long. alice is pretty simple to me and im only 12

    lol

  • ya im ten and u dont need to be in highschool for it.

  • I hope that you can design your own characters on Alice. This could be the program I'm looking for.

I'm trying to design my own scenes in Alice to make it look like my parts of my dreams. The biggest challenge is locating a tool that lets you create your own objects.

I'm using Alice 2.0 and I'm trying to design anthropomorphic creatures.

  • you can make your own characters in version 2 but it's not that great

  • because more girls play sims because it appeals to them more

  • You might want to sit back and re-read your comments. You are not being very clear, and you are slipping away from the topic: The Value of Promoting an Increase of Comp-Sci majors with the Alice Program.

I simply said that Alice might not do what they set out to do, that it might cause less grads rather than more. And a I said how this might happen.

So you might want to re-read my comments too.

  • It's about time a youtube user didn't just say "screw you". I feel a little better about youtube after reading your tactfully said comment.

  • Ke-e-ewl...

But these guys have one possible problem: The reason people have stopped becoming comp-sci majors is because the jobs are pathetic. You either get lucky and work for EA or you starve with some start-up.

And making more hungry programers (increasing the pool) would only seem to drive down wages.

Thus ending in even more unemployed comp-sci majors...

  • Getting lucky involves working with Epic, Crytek, or Blizzard. EA hires 200 fresh grads every year, with nice perks!

  • OK. But adding more grads (in any field) does not improve pay prospects, it drives them down. And programming is especially vicious due to the compounding effects of labor-saving advances in programming...

More programmers is a double-whammy: more people competing for fewer jobs, and the cream of the crop creating more programs that need fewer man-hours...the circle tightens...and smart undergrads choose a different major.

  • On the other hand, more and more businesses begin to rely on technology. More people compete for the jobs that are out there, but the number of jobs in the field is growing too. More people in this field might mean less pay, but if you aren't selfish and greedy, it's not a big deal. The more people that are interested, the more chances we have at another great advancement. The other serious issue is that people are becoming way too dependant on tech... that's gonna hurt later!

  • programming skills are not only usefull if the child is going to be a comp-sci major. they are usefull for everyone just like math, that's why this is taught in school.

  • Although that might be true, it is not the motive of these guys. Their intent is to generate more interest in computer programming (specifically among females) in order to increase the number of Comp-Sci grads. They are responding to a fear of a shortage of programmers. And guess what, a shortage would mean individuals could negotiate better salaries. So of course businesses will be very interested in promoting this little teaching aid: more programmers = lower salaries.

  • nooooo i cant wait that long

  • Alice is very popular at my old high school, and at Carnegie Mellon we're very proud of Professor Pausch's work

  • nice work! I learned Java visually by using VisualAge for Java. Yup, the tool which is now Eclipse. It had a visual module which allowed me to work on the Java syntax and object design while not having to worry about all the GUI elements(objects, layers, layouts, etc ). So I think the object design/experience of Alice/Alice 3.0 will also help budding programmers understand that concept.

Also, I predict the public will flip when they see this kind of tool.

  • i found demo of it at 40 minutes

  • Introduction ends at 02:50

  • thanks dude.. otherwise i was listening to da crap ...
