That ep was so not a filler. In fact i believe that ep was really important in order for naruto to beat pein. Hinata confessing gave naruto this reaction that would make him look at her and pay attention to her, so wen hinata nearly died, that whole confession was u could say etched into naruto's brain, enraging him and making him turn into the kyuubi. Which all leads up to meeting minato and beating pein. So yeah.... It wasnt a filler u haters
I really enjoyed this episode and Hinata is my favorite character. But, did anyone noticed that after Hinata confessed her love for Naruto, that her confession was never acknowledged in any future episode.
Just wanted to add, this is a shounen anyway. This is not supposed to be romantic (In the anime) But I trully believe Hinata's feelings for Naruto are fundamental in this scene. It's part of the ideology of pain "Love brings sacrifice, sacrife brings death, death brings pain". Hinata was the example of that for Naruto and in a way was the sacrifice that had to be done so Naruto can relate to Nagato. Idk why Hinata didn't die though. I guess her story will go on, or she is too popular.
I call filler when they put crap inside an anime just because the mangaka is not ready with an arc, and they can't anime it. Most of the dialogues were in the manga anyway. They added the fight so her "death" wouldn't be so futile, at least in my eyes. Also, when Hinata dies, Naruto awakes 6 tails in a second in the manga. He had never been so upset before and we have to remember... Pain killed Jiraiya, Kakashi, friends, destroyed his village, Pa toad. But only Hinata's death broke his calm.
how do people think that episode was filler? what happened in that episode was exactly what happened in the manga?
they did expand on Hinata's struggle to fight Pein, but they've done that with countless fights ever since the series started. TenTen and Temari back in the chunin exam's. the manga fight started then the next frame TenTen is draped limp over Temari's fan. in this one Hinata charges in with her lion's fists and next frame she's face down in an expanding pool of blood.
the TV series can't really have as many of these jumps like that in the middle of a major battle like that. Then there's the fact that Hinata (just her character mind you not the couple) has been building up to this confession ever since they were kids. She's gone from this timid little girl barely able to stand up for herself as a human being and now she's transformed into this (mostly) confident woman as an artist it would be a shame to gloss over this coming of age type moment with direct ...
... meaning to the main character. Also, according to the comics Hinatas apparent death is suposed to be the catalyst that sends Naruto into his berserk Fox form. He lays there helples watching while this girl he barely paid heed to fights a hopeless fight because she feels something he never ever saw (regardless of if he wants to reciprocate). And because he never saw it he never had a chance to either reciprocate and convey thats not what he'd want or dissuade her from those reckless feelings
You're right, this was a fucking awesome episode. Hinata was fucking pretty and charismatic and this is during those kind of moments that I really like her. I don't like the overly shy Hinata who can't say a sentence to Naruto without stuttering. I like when she's being confident,just like here in this episode,or whenever she has to fight (against Neji too). I wish she could always be like that.
Honestly, I used to be a NaruSaku fan when Naruto was just any other anime in my life. My only reason of supporting NaruSaku before are 1) Naruto is the main hero with Sakura being the main "heroine" and 2) my favorite color was pink - What?! I was 6 back then!-.
I now support NaruHina with reasons that are not as shallow as the reasons I have for NaruSaku.
So I just bothered to read this arc in the manga for myself...as it turns out this DID happen in the Manga so it's not 'filler' or what have you it's completely legitimate!!! Everyone should do their fucking reading before they call bullshit! Stupid NaruSaku fans lol.

Another great review...I've always thought that Naruto and Hinata are the natural ones to get together in the story. I am a longtime naruto fan but am just getting into watching reviews. to me, this was up there with the most powerful scenes ever done in anime. It made me a solid naruhina guy. from the first episode kishi has shown hinata with total love for naruto, I think that he will end up putting them together in the end. They will be a couple if there is something beyond shippuden.
I don't support any couples (for all I care it could be Naruto and Ino...lol) but I admit this episode was good. However, after hearing this I remember I did LMAO when Hinata got violated by Pain...just the ragdoll effect. The entire episode was touching, but the end was epic!
this was in the manga so i wasn't filler + i cant remember what episode it is in shippuden but in the 1 were naruto says that he love sakura and u cant force some1 to love u narusaku fans are using that as an argument for narusaku but this was TRUE filler (never happened in the book) so yea most of them r hypocrites
@TheNinjaNARWALS it's been a while now since we know that Naruto was in love with Sakura even after the promise of a liftime stuff. But my question which probably will remain a mysterty till the end of the war arc or the end if the series is What are Naruto feelings for Sakura and Hinata now and when will Naruto if ever talk to hinata about her love for him? I know it probablu wont be now but i hope he does soon and i hope to see an answer, and not just brush it off like Sakura did with lee.

@TheNinjaNARWALS Same here, I always like Naruto and i want his happiness so i was hoping that he would get the girl he always wanted but now seeing Hinata or her admiration that has turned into love and he personitly as a character and what she would do with that love is beautiful and very brave.I already seen her changes and i already think she a strong character herself. But i can't to see more change with her father, with herself, and most of all, with naruto.
85, 123, 166, and the Sasuke vs. Bee episode were all fantastic both in terms of animation and adaptation. With this episode especially I felt that all the added scenes and flashbacks really added something special to the episode.
Too bad one of the best episodes was followed up by one of the worst episodes in all of anime. Seriously, Shippuden 167 sucked because one, the fight scenes made absolutely no sense, and two, the animation was god-awful. The filler detracted from the episode.
i actually liked this episode better than the actual chapter. here, despite it being filler, the animators gave Hinata the side I wanted to see from her - a kick-ass kunoichi! Hinata removing the rods from Naruto was just heartfelt. Although, the one in which there was a flashback, I kinda didn't like it much. Overall, this was also one of the best episodes! I'm glad the animators are proactive enough to give female characters in Naruto more attitude! :) *nudges Kishi*

@stavrospats1 japanese have a tendency to add those little blushes on little anime girls to express how cute they are. Again, i didn't mind it. i was so speechless at the comparison between little hinata and the current age of hinata. she went from irresistibly adorable to irresistibly adorable and hot.XD i'm pretty sure most people would agree.
@joncarlos1 it also shows how hinata changed we see that in the past she cried,gave up and waited for som,eone else to save her plus she wouldnt stand up neither for herself nor for the one she likes but in the present she stands up in the freaking leader of akatsuki to protect her looved one even when she knows she will die

@stavrospats1 exactly. if anime didn't have fillers, i can guarantee you that people would complain that the anime doesn't have variety or the animators should change it up a bit. Besides, the narusaku fans that complain about this episode r just having a panic attack. like sawyer, i know that the animators went all out for this episode because the animation was 5 stars. if somebody showed me this episode back we were at part 1 episode 1, i would've thought it was an episode in the year 2030 XD

i don't see the big deal about fillers. this episode would've been good without fillers and the point is that people like bluegod20 really expect an exact adaptation from manga to anime which is stupid. fillers help to make an anime/manga more likable and even if an episode has a little bit of filler, the episode still gets the job done. hinata confessed her love, gets wounded, and naruto goes on a rampage.

People are such hypocrits because they say they hate filler but they luv the kakashi gaiden and technically that was filler too. People don't hate fillers they hate boring fillers. To those of you bashing this episode because of a couple lines of filler. Just because you prefer NaruSaku. Just remember Sakura is in every single movie or OVA, and the vast majority of the filler arcs. Why? because someone on the animation staff is in love with Sakura, thats it. Hinata has been my favorite character in the series since episode 2 of the original series. Its about time the poor girl got some camera love.

@tammyandaly also there is no point in discussing whether naruto would've gone kyuubi for sakura or anybody else because that by itself is irrelevant. kishimoto could've easily had sakura go out there but he chose hinata. whatever happens in the anime/manga is what u have to follow, not "if this or that."
@tammyandaly it's not irrelevant for the that kishimoto had hinata go out there instead of sakura to save naruto and she did. if u want to discuss stuff that would've happened, then ask yourself why kishimoto didn't have sakura go out there to help naruto after she was the one who called out to him for help. And i'm aware hinata was the only one who could see what was going on but this is kishimoto's manga. he can make anything happen.
I kind of liked the flashbacks. I loved the episode. I cried like a new born baby. The animation was incredible. Great detail. The significant of it all. The very symbolism of it all. The look on Naruto's face was priceless when she told him I love you. I'll admit though I will be hurt if they don't end up together. That it turns out ot be NaruSaku. But I respect peoples beliefs and if that is was Kish wants I can live with it. Even if I will cry. She is who she is today because of him. NaruHina

Her confession was as fake as it could get,and like Sawyer said in one of his reviews,Kishimoto knows how to make a confession seem believable and genuine. He didn't do that in Sakura's case because she was obviously lying to stop Naruto from chasing after Sasuke. In my opinion,166 was amazing,from all points of view and Naruto's reaction said it all.
I think fillers are there for a reason. Some are fanservice indeed but still,the anime team needs Kishimoto's approval to add things,and if he didn't want the crawling scene or Hinata's reply to Pain,they wouldn't have been there.NaruSaku fans try to twist facts,and turn them in their favour,but that won't happen. @FOestpath Uh, he still got MAD when Sakura get hurt. If you saw your home get destroyed, anyone would already be mad. Then he saw a FRIEND get ALMOST killed right IN FRONT of his eyes. Him turning into the eight tails after JUST Hinata got hurt is irrelevant and sort of selfish of NaruHina fans if you ask me.
@tammyandaly actually her confession gave him more rage after she got 'killed' if any other friend came to fight naruto would know that he/she would fight for the village and he would get that angry like kakashi when naruto learnt he died he knew it was for the village but after her conf naruto realized that hinata fought to protect him and only him and that made him go crazy when she got hurt plus we have seen that whenever hinata is in a pinch naruto is eager to help

@stavrospats1 Well, i haven't seen him really talk to her much. So I can't necessarily say that he did change and start having long conversations with her. Sakura's love interest could change too, considering it's been years. Yes, I realize that she still could somewhat love Sasuke, but she cares about Naruto. That is plain and simple. I believe somewhere in her, she's starting to fall for Naruto.

@stavrospats1 I heard about something like that on DA. It explained that even though Naruto is loosely related to DBZ, that this is Kishi's anime. He doesn't have to make it exactly like that.

@stavrospats1 Well, it just seems like what would happen to me. That or Sasuke comes back and is kept under close-watch/lock-down. Those are my two theories. But if Sasuke did die, Sakura wouldn't pick Naruto out of guilt? She could easily choose someone else. Naruto may think that, but Sakura could easily prove him wrong.

That ep was so not a filler. In fact i believe that ep was really important in order for naruto to beat pein. Hinata confessing gave naruto this reaction that would make him look at her and pay attention to her, so wen hinata nearly died, that whole confession was u could say etched into naruto's brain, enraging him and making him turn into the kyuubi. Which all leads up to meeting minato and beating pein. So yeah.... It wasnt a filler u haters

Just wanted to add, this is a shounen anyway. This is not supposed to be romantic (In the anime) But I trully believe Hinata's feelings for Naruto are fundamental in this scene. It's part of the ideology of pain "Love brings sacrifice, sacrife brings death, death brings pain". Hinata was the example of that for Naruto and in a way was the sacrifice that had to be done so Naruto can relate to Nagato. Idk why Hinata didn't die though. I guess her story will go on, or she is too popular.

I call filler when they put crap inside an anime just because the mangaka is not ready with an arc, and they can't anime it. Most of the dialogues were in the manga anyway. They added the fight so her "death" wouldn't be so futile, at least in my eyes. Also, when Hinata dies, Naruto awakes 6 tails in a second in the manga. He had never been so upset before and we have to remember... Pain killed Jiraiya, Kakashi, friends, destroyed his village, Pa toad. But only Hinata's death broke his calm.

they did expand on Hinata's struggle to fight Pein, but they've done that with countless fights ever since the series started. TenTen and Temari back in the chunin exam's. the manga fight started then the next frame TenTen is draped limp over Temari's fan. in this one Hinata charges in with her lion's fists and next frame she's face down in an expanding pool of blood.

Then there's the fact that Hinata (just her character mind you not the couple) has been building up to this confession ever since they were kids. You're right, this was a fucking awesome episode. Hinata was fucking pretty and charismatic and this is during those kind of moments that I really like her. I don't like the overly shy Hinata who can't say a sentence to Naruto without stuttering. I like when she's being confident,just like here in this episode,or whenever she has to fight (against Neji too). I wish she could always be like that.

Honestly, I used to be a NaruSaku fan when Naruto was just any other anime in my life. My only reason of supporting NaruSaku before are 1) Naruto is the main hero with Sakura being the main "heroine" and 2) my favorite color was pink - What?! I was 6 back then!-.
I now support NaruHina with reasons that are not as shallow as the reasons I have for NaruSaku.

Another great review...I've always thought that Naruto and Hinata are the natural ones to get together in the story. I am a longtime naruto fan but am just getting into watching reviews. to me, this was up there with the most powerful scenes ever done in anime. It made me a solid naruhina guy. from the first episode kishi has shown hinata with total love for naruto, I think that he will end up putting them together in the end. They will be a couple if there is something beyond shippuden.

85, 123, 166, and the Sasuke vs. Bee episode were all fantastic both in terms of animation and adaptation. With this episode especially I felt that all the added scenes and flashbacks really added something special to the episode.
Too bad one of the best episodes was followed up by one of the worst episodes in all of anime. Seriously, Shippuden 167 sucked because one, the fight scenes made absolutely no sense, and two, the animation was god-awful. The filler detracted from the episode.

i actually liked this episode better than the actual chapter. here, despite it being filler, the animators gave Hinata the side I wanted to see from her - a kick-ass kunoichi! Hinata removing the rods from Naruto was just heartfelt. Although, the one in which there was a flashback, I kinda didn't like it much. Overall, this was also one of the best episodes! I'm glad the animators are proactive enough to give female characters in Naruto more attitude! :) *nudges Kishi*

i don't see the big deal about fillers. this episode would've been good without fillers and the point is that people like bluegod20 really expect an exact adaptation from manga to anime which is stupid. fillers help to make an anime/manga more likable and even if an episode has a little bit of filler, the episode still gets the job done. hinata confessed her love, gets wounded, and naruto goes on a rampage.

Just remember Sakura is in every single movie or OVA, and the vast majority of the filler arcs. Why? because someone on the animation staff is in love with Sakura, thats it. I kind of liked the flashbacks. I loved the episode. I cried like a new born baby. The animation was incredible. Great detail. The significant of it all. The very symbolism of it all. The look on Naruto's face was priceless when she told him I love you. I'll admit though I will be hurt if they don't end up together. That it turns out ot be NaruSaku. But I respect peoples beliefs and if that is was Kish wants I can live with it. Even if I will cry. She is who she is today because of him. NaruHina

@ Undermyskin18 totally agree with you. Alot of narusaku fans are so annoying and to follow up what you said naruto told hinata that he likes people like her in both manga and anime. I think it's safe to say that narusaku is officially dead because sakura still loves sasuke. BTW episode 166 made me cry the first time i saw it. BEST EPISODE EVER!! naruhina is coming very soon

@joncarlos1Yes,exactly. And some NaruSaku fans claim that Sakura loves Naruto romantically. When the hell was that proven? Her confession was as fake as it could get,and like Sawyer said in one of his reviews,Kishimoto knows how to make a confession seem believable and genuine. He didn't do that in Sakura's case because she was obviously lying to stop Naruto from chasing after Sasuke. In my opinion,166 was amazing,from all points of view and Naruto's reaction said it all.

I think fillers are there for a reason. Some are fanservice indeed but still,the anime team needs Kishimoto's approval to add things,and if he didn't want the crawling scene or Hinata's reply to Pain,they wouldn't have been there.NaruSaku fans try to twist facts,and turn them in their favour,but that won't happen. Whether they like it or not,Hinata confessed and didn't get a "I hate people who lie to themselves" shout in her face.

@FOestpath Uh, he still got MAD when Sakura get hurt. If you saw your home get destroyed, anyone would already be mad. Then he saw a FRIEND get ALMOST killed right IN FRONT of his eyes. Him turning into the eight tails after JUST Hinata got hurt is irrelevant and sort of selfish of NaruHina fans if you ask me.

@tammyandaly actually her confession gave him more rage after she got 'killed' if any other friend came to fight naruto would know that he/she would fight for the village and he would get that angry like kakashi when naruto learnt he died he knew it was for the village but after her conf naruto realized that hinata fought to protect him and only him and that made him go crazy when she got hurt plus we have seen that whenever hinata is in a pinch naruto is eager to help

@stavrospats1 But Sasuke hates Sakura? I don't see that pairing happening, frankly, even if I didn't ship NaruSaku. But NaruHina doesn't really have ANY development, besides Hinata watching him from the sidelines. NaruSaku has been around since they were children, even if Sakura was too obsessed with Sasuke to notice him. & Naruto is always eager to help his friends? He helped Gaara from the Akatsuki and went into a tailed beast for him? Doesn't mean he's romantically involved with him either.

@stavrospats1 Well, i haven't seen him really talk to her much. So I can't necessarily say that he did change and start having long conversations with her. Sakura's love interest could change too, considering it's been years. Yes, I realize that she still could somewhat love Sasuke, but she cares about Naruto. That is plain and simple. I believe somewhere in her, she's starting to fall for Naruto.

@stavrospats1 I heard about something like that on DA. It explained that even though Naruto is loosely related to DBZ, that this is Kishi's anime. He doesn't have to make it exactly like that.

@stavrospats1 It could end like that, but for some reason I believe Sasuke will die in the end. I don't know why, but I just think Madara and him will be defeated. Then Sakura will really need Naruto then.
But either way, Hinata will respect Naruto's decision, whether good or bad. If she really loves him, she'll understand if he does reject it as long as he is happy.

@stavrospats1 Well, it just seems like what would happen to me. That or Sasuke comes back and is kept under close-watch/lock-down. Those are my two theories. But if Sasuke did die, Sakura wouldn't pick Naruto out of guilt? She could easily choose someone else. Naruto may think that, but Sakura could easily prove him wrong.

@tammyandaly as i see it naruto will be hokage,sasuke the head of the police force of konoha,sakura the head of the hospital,hinata the head of the huuyga clan,kiba head of the anbu,shikamaru head of tatctics force or something like that,ino head of the gathering infomartion force like her dad and i dont know about the others.the only way i can accept narusaku is for sasuke to come back as a good guy then if sakura chooses naruto i am fine with it but of course i would like naruhina to happend

Just because her sister isn't mentioned much and Hinata is doesn't mean she will automatically become the head. If Sasuke came back, it'd have to be a long time. People wouldn't trust him at first, especially as the head of anything.
