It's a sniper rifle round, not an assault rifle round. And with the way the 5.56 is designed (to tumble upon impact), it already causes massive amounts of internal destruction, so a larger round is unnecessary.

The larger round is unnecessary since a 5.56 won't always put someone down, especially at longer ranges.

Assuming you deploy with six 30-rnd mags of 5.56, you're going to want at least six 20-rnd mags of 7.62. That's still 35% more weight.
And you're right that a 5.56 often fails to drop someone, but the internal bleeding will still have them on the ground pretty damn quick.
@mustbeburtreynolds I'm not sure if non-servicemembers understand this, but 'pretty damn quick' often isn't quick enough. You want them dead once the bullet hits. The 'more ammo carried' is a non-issue when you hit the person at 800m, or through a concrete roadblock.
The M14 works fine in a CQB situation. Grenades tend to go in first. I've done house clearing with a full length M16A4. The explosiveness of action makes the whole difference.

This thing is expensive as hell and weighs a ton. It's like 15 pounds, plus ammo. No thank you I'll stick to the standard stock, in synthetic. They give you TOO MANY options in this kit, I don't need all those rails, just a bipod up front and that over the action rail for optics. The adjustable stock is nice, for body armor, but not worth the weight for the rest.

@budzin303 Yes, you can buy a standard M1A from Springfield armory and then buy the chassis separate. Very pricey though. Around $800. Sage International produces the chassis.

@jibreyes I don't know what I did to deserved to be called a "stupid (PIECE) of shit" but the m1 carbine and the m2 carbine aren't the same. The M2 carbine has a semi/full selector switch, different rear sight, a reshaped stock, a bayonet lug, and other small things compared to the m1 Carbine.
I'm pretty sure you are just being a troll when you called me a piece of shit but you can call someone stupid when you're wrong. Plus I work in small arm manufacturing.
