  • This is wonderful. The two Roland synth modules (SE-1 and OC-1) sound fantastic... and of course Miku is in top form. ^_^

  • i can't believe it!! 初音 sings Matthew Passion? This is sooo amazing!!!

  • w w w w w w w w w w w w

The WHOLE THING? You did the WHOLE THING?

Rock on. That is all (from a professional classical musician).

  • Is the Bach's Passion according to St. John on your to-do list?

  • バッハに聴かせてあげたいね

  • LOL!!! Oh no you didnt!!!

    This is hilariously brilliant!

Misses some of the "body" of a good matthew passion performance though... I think I'll stick with the real thing.

  • would love to have the mp3 without registration in japanese..

  • I recall my first exposure to synthesized music was "Switched on Bach", played by Walter (Wendy) Carlos. I was intrigued, but this takes it to a far higher level. To think I should have lived to see such an elevation in so short a time!

Miku is much cuter than Carlos, by far!

  • i wonder what bach had done if he had had access to electronic equipment...

  • QUE COSA MAS BELLA!!! AUN SIENDO UN PROGRAMA ELECTRONICO; LA OBRA SIGUE SIENDO MARAVILLOSA!!!!!

  • Just to note, there is a noted musicologist who argued that Bach's chorus vocal lines should be done solo. He even recorded a few of his works that way I believe. So the solo line idea is not that off the wall (depending on what you wish to believe or consider or rather at least this way the lines are clear.)

  • @ToccataInF The argument is that Bach performed it that way, not that is must be performed that way. In the early 18th c. the basic 4-part chorus consisted of 4 singers, called concertists, who also sang all the solos, not just the choruses. Additional singers, called ripienists, could be added as needed, depending on the circumstances, to double the concertists. The terms "concertist" and "ripienist" came from the concerto grosso. Bach even titled some of this cantatas "concerto."

  • @wcbroccoli Yes. I refrained from adding below that when I first heard of that musicological theory I quipped to myself "why any singers? after all its all in the mind." (next just read the score.) I have slowly come to the conclusion that music or any art uses instruments (voice included) for the transmission of culture. Bach is said to have complained about resources at times ... and what he did or was forced to do is I suppose an endless debate. Of course Bach is more than culture.

  • @ToccataInF The use of one voice per part in choruses was common in the early 18th c. Even wealthy noble courts where Bach worked had one voice per part. Unlike today, "soloists" in the early 18th c. didn't sit on their hands during choruses; they sang with the chorus, and were often the entire chorus. The Leipzig town council had been cutting back on the music budget long even before Bach arrived. Telemann's resources in Hamburg were much worse.

  • Funny, howthe intro of the Matthew passion of Bach transcends form and conventions, it still carries it's essence and depth even with funny and akward voices. But then again, maybe it has just to do with the eye of the beholder

  • @handofgod111 Very well put. I am a devoted follower of Bach's music, but even I was taken to heaven and back listening to this. In a way, it has a certain advantage in that one can so very clearly hear all the lines of the counterpoint interweaving with one another. That is the glory of sacred polyphony: it incarnates the Eternal Dance of God, the very many-in-oneness that is part of his nature bursts out into a universe of sound.

  • So I guess this is a 9 part choral.

The second quartet is rather an accompaniement

and the little girl in the middle sings the choral melody.

    This is lovely.

  • Respect for your fine artwork. As a German I can feel the cultural difference between the japanese and the german culture. An educated, conservative German would probably never do this, because Bach's Passion is too serious to transfer (or transform) it in such a manner. But I enjoyed your video.

  • @hugin33 That's bullshit. Bach's music is HIGHLY abstract. It sounds nice no matter what instument you're using. It's all about the underlying harmony and counterpoint.

  • @hugin33 Educated and conservative Germans killed 6,000,000 people during WW II.

  • @oswaldovernet Grind your stupid axe somewhere else! This is God's music.

  • SACRILEGE!!!

    but a funny sacrilege^^

  • I like the human version, but I LOVE this.

  • It is a brilliantly executed project. However, it is evident that it's hard to make a programme sing in such a fundamentally different language as where it was designed for.
