While watching the documentary, the moment they played this, it hit me. This is my favorite song by ATCQ! It elicited that kind of response! Mother Fucker!
@hawkswin96 you know wiz didn't always use to be the mainstream guy he is now, underground hip hop still has a lot of good artist that are aspiring to bring the old days back, look up wiz when he was underground, he was great, good flow, great lyrics, but he sold out and became what he is now(sigh), just thought i'd let you know. I'm not gonna defend lil'wayne, cause i don't really like him at all
@hawkswin96 'Things go in cylces'-Q-Tip. No worries, homeboy, that boom bap will be back in the next generation when they go back and dig the CD crates. When they find this, they will discover jazz samples, research them and put a new spin on it like in our musical era. In about 10 years you will hear this shit banging in parties and clubs. By the way, the most UNDERSTATED fact people miss is the extent of Tip's music skills. He was the force behind Mobb Deep's 'Infamous' album.
@2Phaktor haha "listenin to hip hop my daddy told me it reminded him of be bop"
but yeah i get what ur sayin man i sure hope people realize that people can be good rappers and not talk about bitches nd hoes up in the club in every song
people need to start being creative instead of just following what everybody else is doing
i think the biggest enemy is the record company people cause i have a feeling that when somebody comes in with something new the record people say this aint gonna sell
@hawkswin96 I feel the music is a reflection of the times we live in. Right now, rich or poor, white or black, 'bitches, money and jewelry' is what is socially prevalent. The music that is marketed to the masses across all genres sucks right now. Its all the same song with different lyrics. But be cool, my friend. Stay in touch with the music of today and show the young cats how songs are arranged. DJ Premier said it best, there is a difference between making a beat and producing.
@hawkswin96 ...and there is difference between plain rapping and saying something. KRS-One said: '20 years down the line you can spark this, cause we'll be the old school artists' It will happen to the people making music now; the scary thing is they will be saying the same thing about the music of today as we are saying about the music in our times. Some of these wack songs will be classics to the future generations.
Everyone here MUST see Beats, Rhymes and Life (the documentary). As a fan of documentaries and Hip Hop...it was perfection. The way they fit this song in there was beautiful!!! Just picture a really relaxing montage of the 'Tribe' in Tokyo and it somehow it took away all the stress I was dealing with at the time. Pure escapism.
@Pazos001 No! Dilla started producing with Tribe on "Beats, Rhymes, Life" Tip, Dilla, & Ali Shaheed Muhammad were know as the Ummah. There that your daily tribe lesson :)
Spoiler alert! Just peeped the Tribe documentary, and Busta Rhymes reminisced about this song and recalled tearing up hearing it. This is his favorite song on the album.
yeah but its in selected theaters in selected cities. It opened in NYC on the 8th, that's where I peeped it. Should be showing in LA, ATL, Philly, etc depending on where you are.
Lol I don't know why people keep arguing who's better between Tip and Phife. They both have thier own style, and can do things each other can't. I like Q Tip's style cause he has a unique way of rhyming. Then Phife, he always likes to use people's names who were famous at that time,I like that. They probably thought they were iller then each other which is understandable because they both are so ill. I would rather hear them both in a track together rather than just by themselves anyday
you people are trippin phife is the best "brothas wanna front but everybody know, i get more props then the arsinio hall show" thats one of the best lines ever created and who said it? oh yea PHIFE DID! so dont trip
Ever since reading these comments about phife being better i've been listening more intently to his verses and i've got to say they are pretty much equal, in no way are his raps inferior in my opinion, however i used to be of that opinion...thank buddha for youtube
Classic Album I encourage everyone to buy man serious we as fans gotta help bring hip hop back as well by listen to more soulful music like this, and less trash. Hip Hop Eternal
I agree with most posters that Phife rips this joint. Actually though, he crushes this ENTIRE b-side. One of my all-time faves, next to Gucci Mane (I kid).

@NewYorkMets324 I think phife's verses are usually better than Q-Tip's. I personally think Phife Dawg is a better rapper. but Q-Tip is still amazing.
