@afshinkiyani Scientists develop models and equations. Engineers apply them. Engineers don't know how to develop them, scientists don't know how to apply them. Both depend on each other. The only difference is that scientists get paid less than half than engineers do.

Every design is different, that's why you MUST know how to develop models and equations. Perhaps not at the level of scientists but we defend ourselves ;).

We may know the basic principles how those are derived, but still our main objective is to apply them.

For example in the signals and systems area you have to derive and design methods for data transfer, perhaps it is not like "starting form scratch" but it is more than the basic principles, but it all depends on what area are you talking about. I took a class named numerical methods in which you have to derive algorithms and equations to solve calculus and other complex problems..Nice to see more engineers here :D!.
