Oh my gosh! Dave's problem is the EXACT same one I have. Obviously I am a lady & I'm not going to hit it that hard anyway but I can barely hit them straight at all. When I hit them straight they fly 150y!
Michael is fixing the slice or shank, but not increasing distance. To increase the distance, the downswing and release of the club must be sinchronized with the fast shoulder and hip turn, making your shoulder rotation push the arm as you make a downswing and release of the club.

Phil Mickelson hits his 9 iron 185... I hit mine 155 with a smooth swing but I can hit it longer than that if I want to. If you think a 155 nine iron is ridiculous you clearly don't golf very much
@BornToAssassinate The rules aren't numbered that way. There have been plenty of times when I 've seen a tour pro chip on the green. It happened at the US Open at Pebble. There are times due to the shape of the green when you can't put through a small peninsula of rough.
haha bro not to bag on you or anything but it IS actually completely legal to chip, pitch, or even hit full golf shots off of a green. it just can't be the same green your putting on. so to correct your statement, yes. you actually may hit golf shots off of a green. haha fun fact eh?
@holygolfer Actually u can chip on your own green too. Don't have to just use a putter-any club. No penalties although the greenkeeper may not be so happy!
@BornToAssassinate there is no rule in golf saying you can't use a an iron on a green. PGA pros/international pros do it regularly when faced with a putting line that would run off the green. You just simply can not take a divot if you use an iron on a green. Not 100% sure about this but i believe you cannot place the club head on the green when addressing the ball also. But i could be totally wrong about that last part.
Great tip! In trying to fix my swing plane that was too steep I realized I was doing exactly this while ensuring other things like grip, transfer of weight etc. were correct. Had baffled me why until now!!
And also Dale (rofl), try to transfer your weight to the front as you strike down the ball. Too many players only hit with the arms without any hips rotation.
I hit 155 yards with my 9 Iron with an easy and consistant golf swing.
@TheSportAddict That's commendable that you hit your 9-iron 155 yds. However, I doubt it's with the same accuracy as a guy with a quiet lower body. I use a medium 7-iron for 155-160 and my accuracy is pretty good. I could probably hit my 9-iron 155, but I'd probably have to hit it off my right heel and end up with zero backspin.
@TheSportAddict yeah your right, you dont need to try and smack it, nice easy consistant, smooth flowing golf swing actually can show improvments alot quicker. good connection gets so much distance other than trying to nail it and you fat /shank it OOB
@TheSportAddict i hit 140 on a clean swing (im not very consistent) and im 14 and have been playing a year, im better then most players my age because i eat, sleep, and drink golf!
@Gabesly he chooses not to. back in the early days on ttour he could would hit it 165 or so. still can. good players understand that hitting short irons far isa ridiculous measure of distance. It only depends on playing with your wrist angle at impact. long irons and driver show how good a swing is
@nikepumps123 ok thanks for clearing that up, but for a tour player he still doesnt hit it very far. there is a video on here explaining how he has a small amount of shoulder turn compared to big hitters
@Gabesly maybe. tiger is still long though. he isnt a bubba thats true. but if he wanted to i would bet he could hit 320-330 no problem. IMO many tour players can, but the rough is penalizing, not like courses avarge people play. they are better with a 5 iron from the fairway than a 7 from the rough. take my word for it man, tiger is too smart of a golfer to lead the tour in driving distance. in his college days though he would hit a 2 iron over 300 ive heard
@matadordn That's because Tiger has older (weaker) lofts on his irons. Also, that's just his standard 9 iron shot. He could it it further or shorter or do whatever he wants to do with it.
Great! Something useful to do with the tee... It remains me to stay focus on my back swingp. Thanks for sharing... really works!

@bobtomfish Correct, you cannot ground a club on the green, but there's not a rule stating that any club (otherwise legal) is verboten on the green.
