  • I love you. I love this video. It explains everything I already know that I wish I could tell people, but I'm just too lazy. And Personally for myself, I choose to spend roughly $700 a month on the best food and supplements I'm aware of. I have so many friends who barely make enough money to support themselves because of their laziness, and so all they can afford to eat is pizza and beer. And most of them have health issues, thus, because of their ignorance...they take prescription meds.....

  • @kojin54321 thinking it's going to cure them. And to top it all off, most of these friends of mine are only in their early 20's and they either have kids, or are about to have one. I sometimes look at them and can't help but feel pity them. I mean, I used to try to suggest healthier choices, but they "can't afford it", or "it tastes like shit", or "qigong looks retarded", or they just don't want to. They all think I'm a fucking freak for my life style, and so...we are worlds apart.

  • @kojin54321 Zak, I know your videos have probably helped inform a lot of people, maybe even changed their lives... but I can't help but be drowned and torn asunder by the masses of stupid ass people who will never understand you or I.

  • @kojin54321 Thanks! Lol...

  • @SecretsOfLongevity wow, I'm sorry. I totally ranted at you. Anyways, I'ma go jump off a bridge with a bungee cord around my neck after playing beer pong with some Chinese bros. Ttyl

  • Great Video. Thanks.

Was wondering your thoughts on making Kefir milk.

I can't get raw milk in my state so I get organic skim milk that is pasteurized. Than I add the Kefir starter. Is this a good thing?

    Thanks

  • @postitivehealthylife I don't recommend skim milk nor homogenized milk. Virtually all pasteurized milk is homogenized and pasteurization in and of itself is pretty terrible. To learn everything I have to say about raw milk watch this video: /watch?v=huk6RN-FyQc

  • 60-70 million years? Homo is the genus that includes modern humans and species closely related to them. The genus is estimated to be about 2.3 to 2.4 million years old.

  • @foolsrushin87 Yep, but I'm referring to our ancestors tracing back 70 million years to when we were tree climbing lemur-like creatures. That's as far as I've looked and along the entire evolutionary pathway since then we've ALWAYS had a significant portion of our calories coming from animal foods. The range is about 5% of calories all the way up to 99% of our calories depending on the period.

  • What about enzymes? Are those killed when you cook leaves and seeds?

I feel like raw kale gives me more of a boost than cooked kale, although I can't see how I could really digest such thick leaves.

Raw seeds make me sick for some reason but I feel fine after eating cooked seeds.

  • I had way less gas on the standard american diet. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

  • Harvard Professor Richard Wragham on how cooking made us human:

vimeo . com / 10325384 (take out spaces)

  • @rewildme Love Richard's work!

  • My definition of a raw foodist would be someone who eats a 100% raw WILD food diet without processing it at all, no grinding, blending, juicing, pressing, cooking or fermenting, no eating domesticated plants (or animals). So, there is actually no such thing as a raw foodist:)

  • Food processing is certainly a defining human characteristic. I find it funny that Natural Hygienists, now calling themselves 80.10.10ers, want to argue this, when they are eating a 100% processed food diet, meaning all of the food they're eating is extremely modified from it's natural state. Bananas weren't even edible "raw" until 1836 and are grown in tissue cultures now. This isn't processing?

  • An extreme form of eating unprocessed foods is a diet called Instincto(Anopsolgy). The founder says that we should eat like chimps.

  • Your still not as young or healthy as me. lol ;)

  • @adkpinecone O...K...?

  • @SecretsOfLongevity S.A..R..C.A.S.M ... do you know what that is?

  • @adkpinecone I most certainly do, the context was a little strange.

  • This can't be said enough. Nice work.

  • Makes total sense, only an dingaling would think they could live on powders. Powders have their place.

  • Not that my opinions matters or should be taking very serious here on the internet by any means but this was a very good and informative video.High quolity meat does wonders for the brain and it shows in your recent vids. Please do more videos on sex hormones and their importance to health.

  • Now that's just downright reasonable! I always steam my greens lightly, so much better. I'm not a gorilla. I also like to eat rice crackers made with good fats. I know that's like the worse crap ever, I mean it's PROCESSED but, well, who cares? I get enough nutrition elsewhere.

  • @StabbyRaccoon It's just rice popcorn mushed together in a cake. At least there's no gluten and I can't imagine there's much calories in it to be counted as carbs.

  • @SecretsOfLongevity yeah, or other nasty stuff in grains. White rice is probably one of the least toxic foods. I learned that from the book Perfect Health Diet. Do you follow that blog? I'm friends with the author, he provides so much good science.

  • Great stuff!

  • Your body's ability to maintain health mainly depends on a few things.

Your body's detoxification abilities. Antioxidants like glutathione.

And your body's stress management abilities.

If one if these are off it can have detrimental affects to your health

  • Oh, wow, just solved my problem. Thanx!

  • Hey guys if you're having problems with gas from eating a lot of greens then try this: put them into a blender and make a smoothie! This effectively breaks down the cell walls and makes it MUCH easier to digest. Also, try not to combine fruits and veggies too much because the vegetables take longer to digest. While they are digesting, the fruit will just sit in the digestive tract and ferment, resulting in gas.

  • I'm not one to bust on someone who wants to eat a completely raw diet, but thanks for making points about the bioavalability of nutrients that science has known for many years.

  • Haha, the audience you're addressing sounds orthorexic. They probably would get a heart attack upon finding out that Matt Stone recommends eating hot dogs and ice cream for better metabolism. Btw, have you heard of Richard Wrangham? All the rage currently talking about the beenfits of cooked food and why humans are made to eat cooked easily digestible food.

  • @RawAthlete Yeah when I was 100% raw I listened to an interview with him and got soooo angry! LOL!

  • zack can u make some breakfast recipes.. thanks brother happy newyear =)

  • @rui27marne I don't think people would find me cooking bacon and eggs that exciting... plus I'm currently on the Warrior Diet and only eat one meal at the end of the day.

  • @SecretsOfLongevity I have just begun reading the Warrior Diet book myself and am really excited to see how it goes. Make a video regarding it, weather it has benefited you or not.

  • This video needed to be made, and you did a great job of presenting it. Good stuff :)

  • @ThreeTreasureTonic Thanks!

  • So that's how they process that colostrum at surthrival... nice.

  • One of your best videos- straight, to the point and very informative. One question- how does marinating meat make it more bioavailable? This makes sense to me but I am just curious as to how you typically marinate meat? I usually eat ground beef/bison/venison and dnt know if I could actually marinate that. Thanks!!!

  • @AnotherYourself72 Well ground meat isn't very marinate-able, but with other cuts the marination process tenderizes and slightly pre-digests it.

  • Interesting video :)

  • salut zac. i think this is true more and more. I have awful gas ever since I ate more raw, more green, etc . . .this must mean that it is not digesting, it is fermenting in my large intestine. i just got back from Argentine and over there I ate a lot of steak and potatoes and I really had NO gas at all. I ate a little greens, but not as much as here. Now that I am back, the gas is back! probably cos i have eaten raw swiss chard for the past week. i think the awful gass is telling us something.

  • @ThomasDeanNordlum That was my biggest clue when eating a mostly raw plant based diet!

  • @SecretsOfLongevity so we arent suppose to eat greens?

  • @rui27marne It is better to process them through juicing, blending, cooking etc. Otherwise they will go largely undigested which equals less nutrition and more gas.

  • @ThomasDeanNordlum I had the same problem. I couldn't figure this out for a long time, but I now I am gas-free. To get rid of gas, I had to stop eating low-water fruit like dates and bananas, limit my avocados and nuts to a minimum, and not mix tons of stuff in my salads. Try eating only high-water fruit and some greens here and there and see if that works.

  • @highsugarfruit i notice this too when i make some guilty pleasures like banana, kéfir, peanut butter smoothies (strange calling that a guilty pleasure when most eat McMerde food). God, I made raw hummus once and i was farting for two days non-stop! I've been steaming my greens and i have a bunch of green powder that I made from kale from my garden last year. merci for the tips. :-D

  • @ThomasDeanNordlum brother, try blending or even better, juicing :) im guessing u wont have any gas juicing, and probly none if blending. :)

  • @0wenfox depends what I eat, and if it's raw. I would throw whatever in the blender and always had flatulence. Like raw cabbage, cranberries, fruit from québec that I froze, raw carrots, etc . . .i need to be more conscience of food combining as well.

  • I love your videos.

  • LOL, great vid.

  • good breakdown of the different levels of processing, i noticed that when i cook a steak more on the rare side, my stomach handles it very well, vs overdone, then i feel sick and my taste buds dont like it as much

  • Wheatgrass, lemon water & herbal teas always make me feel great, fruit smoothies can just be sugar overload....pending on how you make them. I must admit though, while traveling on the road, a double shot of wheatgrass and a smoothie at a Jamba Juice is a much better snack compared to mcdonald's or subway...especially in airports/train stations!

  • Brilliant video - Really enjoyed it

  • For the lulz, in response to 12:08, I just had a berry juice in coconut water that I made in the Vitamix (Cherries, blueberries, raspberries, coconut water). I've been feeling like total shit since I ate it. I'd rather eat a big bloody (processed) slice of steak with fresh oven baked bread (processed) with butter (processed). LOL.

    Good video!

  • Yes, they can.
