  • had to be asain

  • @plastereddragon

Dude, there are different math tricks to different things. He never said his two tricks would work with everything.

  • Yes I have a question, what happens when the first digit of the two numbers is NOT the same and/or the second digit of the two numbers does not add to 10? This is a nice math trick when multiplying 2 two-digit numbers that follow this specific pattern, which means it is pretty limited in its applicability. 43*47 = 2021, but 44*47 = 2068, & 43*57 = 2451. I guess you could use it to "get close" for other problems (i.e. 44*47 = (43*47)+47), but otherwise it's of little use.

  • not bad

  • "Any question? Non. Thank you!"

  • To be politically correct he is filipino. LIKE ME!!!

  • Dumb college student:Do you ever do math?

    Bobby lee: Sometimes i do!

  • i hate he keep saying "its sooo easy" lol

  • lol asians...

  • Actually, the Indian mathematician Ramanujan was probably the greatest mathematician of all time... he was completely self-taught

  • @scyllaandcharybdis Newton wasn't a bad one either, self taught.

  • U LOST ME ON THe 1st 1

  • OF COURSE, ASIAN

  • No-one can be quicker than Scott Flansburg. This is fake.

  • So... all it takes to be the best mathematician ever is to be good at mental multiplication? I guess there's tons and tons of best mathematicians in the world in that case.

  • i owned my math teacher with this :)

  • wow! u call that the best mathematician??? a load of easy operations? that's as dumb as lego construction!

  • Comment removed

  • 82 * 78 ..... DOH!

  • @LupineL00pine There's shortcuts for that, too, and many more. I just never bothered to memorize them.

  • Thumbs up if you are under 18 and you are dumb.

  • AHAHAHAHAHHAH A SHIIIIT OF PAPER

  • it doesnt work with 72 * 73

  • @recochero3 No shit. Read the top comment.

  • Comment removed

  • If you can program a computer to do it, its not genius material, sorry. When you can solve 2nd order PDE's in your head, then Ill be impressed.

  • 1:29 ''Firsssss.... ahw shit what was the word what was the word''

  • tree and seven xD

  • Of course he's asian

  • 2:15 is epic!

  • figured this out when he finished talking about 25 at the end, i don't get how is this best matmatician w/e, i can barely pass calculus

  • Calculator still wins.

  • Um.... surely the "best mathematician of the 21st century" would realize how far removed this is from what mathematics is actually about, right? Give me a decent lecture on orbifolds, or the cohomology of sheaves, or the spectral sequence of a filtered complex, or operator ideals, or something and maybe I'd reconsider, but for now- you've got a very, very long way to go before earning that title.

  • @LeonhardEuler1 I feel for you. Browsing around on Youtube, one gets the impression that math is about number crunching. Not surprising, since calculation is the only math most people are familiar with. I see titles of videos like "math genius" and it's a savant who can calculate the day on which a person was born. Your specialty I'm guessing is algebraic geometry.. that subject is so far removed from people's ordinary experiences, they just have no idea. Wish people knew what math really was.

  • @sirmailbox Indeed. And no, actually, I was advanced to candidacy for the math PhD, working on topics in several complex variables and analytic number theory (which involved some algebraic geometry), before my interests led me to switch to a physics PhD program and work on string theory (which also involves some algebraic geometry). But, yeah, algebraic geometry in particular, and just algebra in general, is so enormously far removed from people's ordinary experiences. I wish so too.

  • @LeonhardEuler1

Yes I agree with you Euler. Now days it became fashion for every people to put some thing on you tube with inappropriate title. Mathematics is beautiful.

  • Filipinos FTW

  • I have a hard enough time understanding math without Caribbean music in the background!

  • hey guys, don't criticize him, show respect to what he has taught us ....

  • must add up to 10, ie 72*78 or 81*89

  • WOW! WITHOUTOUT A SHIT OF PAPER! - 2:14

  • что за хуйня? для квадрата чисел, оканчивающихся на 5, верно, ибо есть даже такой признак возведения.

  • gotta love Asian

  • This isn't working u stupid fucks. My dad is a gynecologist and he approve this message by saying that I am a genius.

  • Ummm, is that guy talking in the video a Filipino?

  • Lol 0:24 without a shit of paper

  • @Unleazhead lol fail lil bit :D

  • I will beast in my algebra class on monday now

  • This hardly works at all.

    51

    53

Okay, so 03 on the right, and (5 x 6) on the left...

So 3003? Right? NO. The answer is 2703.

    I am confused.

  • @iObsidian read orygyn's top comment.... he explaines why you can do that formula with those numbers.

  • of course he is an Asian...

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa madafkaaa i was on end in first 10sec :D

  • I'm impressed

  • yea cause this helps in the real world....

  • "or without using a shit of paper!" None the less, great video. Thanks :)

  • Wait so I dont need a SHIT of paper to do this

  • yay, that makes me nearly as good as the slowest CPU....

  • so why diden't anyone tell me this wile i was in school...

  • @CLundkvist Because it only works in certain cases. If you know several tricks for certain conditions by heart, you can use either one when it's applicable, and you might also see the connections that will make you calculate faster overall.

  • potangina mo your tagalog like me!!! =)

  • Ya

  • 2:15 "a shit of paper"

  • world record? what was the world record? the mathematician? how do you measure that? and this video definitely doesn't prove his the greatest because I already knew this :/

  • The thing with numbers finishing in 5 I demonstrated it in a boring info class 2 years ago while I was playing with squares from 1 to 100. It can be demonstrated that way xy^2=a^2+2*a*y+y^2 where a=xy-y and xy is a number, x are the first digits and y are the last. Like 255^2=250^2+2*250*5+5^2, but that can be write as 255^2=250*260+25 and also as 255^2=25*26*10^2+25. The last 2 digits from 10^2 are 0 and 0 so you add 25 at that. You just got that 255^2=650*100+25 and that is all.

  • @teknown For 25*26 I just do 25^2=625 using the same formula then I add 25. You can have the exact thing as 255^2=200^2+2*200+55+55^2 so that would be 255^2=40000+110*200+3025 => 255^2=40000+22000+3025 which is right. But as you saw the first was easier to calculate in mind. It also work for any squared number, not only finishing in 5, like 21^2=20^2+2*20*1+1 >= 21^2=400+40+1 which is also right, but you can calculate easier if the number finishes in 5, 0 and also the last one in the video.

  • you did multiplication incorrectly.. really?

  • Yeah, it's so obvious... But seriously though, holy shit Asians are smart.

  • Comment removed

  • Of course...

  • You don't need this useless "tip".

Start with multiplying the 1x1-digit numbers, then 1x2-digits and last the 2x2. So 25x25 would be: 5x5=25, 5x20=100, 20x5=100, 20x20=400. Then you just sum them up: 25+100+100+400=625. This works with EVERY multiplication.

  • well that partially sucked!!!

  • This is gonna help so much on my tests. Just calculating things like 25*25 will help so much.

  • Learning a trick, especially that only conditionally works, is stupid. Understand the concept, then find your own mental shortcut.

  • Of course he is asian -_-

  • Asians i swear to god.......

  • So you taught my math teachers!?

  • is he just doing short-cuts?

  • There's two conditions for this to work.

    1. The 1st digit in both 2-digit numbers you're multiplying must be the same.

    2. The two 2nd digits must add up to 10.

You can't use the method described in this video with any 2 numbers that fail to satisfy the above conditions.

  • @Orygyn Thanks. This should definately have been covered in the video or at least in the description.

  • @Orygyn Also if you notice the numbers in each sides are in even and odds.

  • shit of paper xD

  • asian teacher!

  • i knew it was legit as soon as i saw he was asian

  • Good method!!

  • Hilarious... these techniques are from "Vedic Mathematics"

  • try 44 x 43... sorry man is not working :/

  • @SuperCokoloko 3 and 4 doesnt add up to ten ya terd

  • only works for numbers in which the 1st integers of the 2 numbers multiply to > or equal to ten

  • Dude that doesn't work at all, why do you suggest that as a tool?

You can do something bad with that you know?

  • without using a shit of paper

  • This algorithm doesn't work for everything.

  • Without using a shit of paper?

  • @PeterRoeder31 sheet

  • I actually learned something. LOL

  • I learned these tricks with an iphone app called "mathemagics".

  • AMAZING!

  • without using a SHIT of paper????? did i hear that right??

  • @matthewc4e LOL IKR

  • @XxIshxXCwalk , well, i guess i did hear right. he definately says 'shit of paper'!

  • 13 x 77 does not equal 1421 tho ... it equals 1001

    96 x 56 is not 5036 or 5436, but 5376

    37 x 45 is not 1635, but 1665.

so this does not work will all 2 digit numbers mult. together.

  • @godbox17 yea buddy, its two 2 digit numbers that start with the same number.

  • problem is the multiples of 10 have to be the same so you ant cool someone out by sating any 2 digit numbers

  • wat about 98*97???

  • a shit of paper

  • i love his voice :)

  • hahahaha vaidik maths from india

  • pilipino ka po sir?

  • Math is way more than just arithmetic.

Moral of the story, "just use a calculator." lol

  • Actually this is one of the ways that speedcounting is using. and I knew it since some time ago.

But it's all crap. Because it fails when you count something where all of the 1's place numbers don't add up to 10 and when the numbers aren't the same in the first row. So it breaks when you use 45*55 or 44*45 it's easy to count using a different aritmethic. But Remembering all multiples of 1-100 times 1-100 is easy. It's just 10000 numbers and that is not that hard. I can 1-30*1-30 in head.

  • It's an insult to Maths! This is just some arithmetic, maths isn't about doing stuff your pocket calculator can do million times faster!

  • A "shit" of paper.

  • @sk8almost6991 lmao

  • Great mathematic tip. I shall use this myself.

  • "without using a calculator. Or without using a shit of paper". LOL

  • i think he said 'a sh!t of paper'

  • Asian. Doesn't count.

  • @13SaintJimmy it does and it LEGIT.

  • Doesn't work for every number

  • Pointless trick with no value. All you mathematically challenged people can try this if you like. It is harder than long multiplication and has no conceptual value.

  • @garethb1961 lol, this trick is for those trying to do multiplication "fast," but for people who SERIOUSLY study math (e.g. mathematicians, physicists, engineers), this has, obviously, little CONCEPTUAL value (and easily proven by algebra)

but still, it was FUN watching him do this so lighten up bro :D

  • This really isn't something he can claim to have discovered, it is part of the trachtenberg speed system of basic mathematics. A book written by a russian captured by the nazis in WWII, buy it and read it for a load of things like this.

  • OF COURSE!!!!! He's ASIAN!

  • this is really smart

  • Filipino

  • gosh id hate to have him as a math teacher

  • This is only applicable a small percentage of the time. The numbers BOTH have to be 2 digits and BOTH have to start with the same number. And sometimes THAT doesnt even work. ie, 99x99=/=9081

  • @SuperBamaslim both second digits have to add up to ten, so your not proving the philopeno wrong

  • damn does anyone have his number.i need a tutor

  • a shit of paper....LOL

  • i knew it was legit as soon as is saw he was asian...

  • A Calculus trick here (French), you're welcome :D : /watch?v=Y8GtT90cuU8

  • one taymis nine!

    what the hell is taymis??

your accent betrayed you.. hahahah you are a filipino!

  • not true with most numbers. You are teaching false [WRONG] formula. Stop doing it or explain at the begining what numbers it works with. Only some are OK.

  • a Shit of paper lol

  • asian+glasses=LEGIT

  • this only works if the numbers in the units place sum to 10

  • holy shit i learned something!

  • i rather just use a calculator

  • This is not mathematics, it's arithmetic.

  • Asian.....what a suprise... not like I was expecting an American to pop out...

  • you guys use shit a paper?

  • It doesnt work with 98*97

  • yeah it only works when the second digits sum to 10: 5,5 or 3,7 etc

  • krystal?

  • Cool tip, but that is elementary level...

  • i knew it was legit as soon as i saw his glasses..

  • @ThatPhunnyStuff And he is Asian too.

  • @ThatPhunnyStuff ahhahahahaha

  • any questions? non~ thanks you. :D

  • Looks like my math teacher. x_x

  • looooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • 2:15 remember students, don't use a shit of paper :) omg, it's guys like these that make me so proud to be filipino :)

  • you're philipines

  • Any question? - Yes - None, thank you.

  • i was scared at the beggining

  • Thanks for teaching , it was sick

  • Comment removed

  • turn off that effin music

  • Two things to note:

    1) The two digits in the tens place must be equal.

    2) The two digits in the ones place must add up to equal ten.

    Otherwise this doesn't work.

  • lol hella sick bro

  • this doesn't work for everything, cuz according to the formula that this guy says should work, 26 times 26 should give you 636, whereas in reality it's 676.

18 times 13 is 234 but this formula gives you 224.

33 times 33 is 1089 but the formula gives you 129 (lol).

    'nuff said.

  • This is easy and only works is the second digits of each number add to 10.

  • Heres a little trick for you guys. Lets say you know 12*12 is 144. But you don't know that 13*13 is 169 on the top of your head. Use this formula. (x-1)^2 + 2(x-1) +1. (13-1)^2 + 2(13-1) + 1 144 + 12 + 12 + 1 169. X^2 + 2x + 1 will always equal the number one higher than x squared. Lets work the same equation backwards: You should know that 20*20 is 400. But what is 19*19? Well 400-1-(2(20-1)) should equal 19*19 400 - 1 - 2(19) = 361. So the formula is x^2 - 2(x-1) - 1 for the reverse
  • "how did I get that?" -- becuz ur asian

  • yet it took him 5 seconds to say "formula"

  • @skilldevils fucking idiot not everyone is born in US/UK/ETC

  • What about 82^2 according to you it woul be 7204 but its 6724?

  • bitch please, now tell me if 2^2431525253 + 1 is a prime without using a computer.

  • The number are chosen .. in the way that if you * and + the cross number the result is always X0

    For example 25x25 (2*5+2*5=20 -->X0)

    72*78 (7*8+7*2=70 --->X0)

If the "cross numbers" works like that his trick will always be working ;-)

(Also the last numbers in each number must when they * be more than 10

for example 22*22 will not work for both reasons)

  • Wiethoot using a shit of paper
