  • I think square used the same sprite design as final fantasy 5

  • WOW! Saruin is much MUCH tougher in the remake...

I would have already been reviving characters if this was the remake.

  • The Cast:

    Hawk as Sisoshi

    Guella Ha as Kiotsuake

    Claudia as Usotsueoshikea

    Myriam as Suketsusaas

    Sif as Tekukekana

    Aisha as herself

You made them sound like pacific islanders

  • why did this not come out here, seriously why did noone aleast make a fan translation of thsi, wtf

  • @Bistol13 It was remade on the PS2. Seriously, that game is bad ass. Check it out.

  • interesting

haven't played this game but the background changes color.

    realtime daytime setting?

  • I actually own the cart and finished this game with Hawk and Barbara back in the day (like almost 15 years+ ago)

Got to Saruin by going through the "altar in the plain" entrance route at the end (not through the entrance near Albert's castle).

I don't know a lick of Japanese. I was even able to get into some of the secret areas with the giants' village and the Isle of Evil.

Good times. Loved the game so much.

  • anyone know where theres an english patch for this game?

  • what does Phantom Warrior do? It's illusion magic, right?

  • @Puremage91694 Yes. It make a double of your character that can't be healed but fight for you. It have the same MP and weapons points than your character. For extra cheapness, have the character equipped with the Chalice learn Phantom Warrior. : ) Not that it is actually needed for the final battle.

  • @Mewseeker Just Like Shadow Servant from RS3?

I just taught Barbara Phantom Warrior in the PS2 version

  • @Puremage91694 I don't know exactly how Shadow Servant works in RS3 ^^;

Phantom Warrior basically protects you by having your double fight in your stead.

In the remake, you can heal it with Phoenix Arrow, making it more durable.

  • @Mewseeker It's the same as phantom warrior, except it also allows you to attack twice and it only lasts one hit.

  • Can you help me find the Eris Bow and the Left Handed Sword please?

  • Is anyone working on an english patch for this game?

  • @Puremage91694 Every patch I seen seems to have been abandoned. I think there's a translation in the works for Romancing SaGa 2, however that was quite awhile ago.

  • 名前がおかしい・・・

    バグなのか?

  • @harakarakoedase Not good enough to formulate an answer in Japanese, but I didn't even notice that at first. The names are a bit strange, aren't they?

  • how can I get this ost?

  • JAPANESE

  • eww what a germy death for saruin..

  • the change in time setting here makes it look like they were killing each other for a day or two!

  • Thanks for posting.

Too bad so many players were screwed just for not having one spell, but at least it works.

Also, the stereo effect of the boss dying is awesome with headphones.

I'm finally attempting to go through this game myself. What kind of levels were your weapons/spells at the end?

  • Do you talk about Phantom Warrior?

While quite useful, it is not absolutely needed.

If you have Ukom Trident (spelling?),

you can do quite well as well.

It's just that you need to make sure you survive long enough.

  • I just remember from GameFAQs that TheSpelunker found Saruin impossible to beat without hacking his save. So, I figured that he had no idea about how Phantom Warrior worked at the time, not surprising considering the other, earlier FAQ he referenced didn't have a good description for the spell.

When I get to the end of the game, I'll have to have fun taking Saruin on without using Phantom Warrior the second time I try.

You're mewseeker from GameFAQs, right? Check my reply on the board.

  • Yes I am. ^^

  • i always thought that saruin would be easy with the right people

  • Music, background image that change gradually, the boss, all support one final epic battle :D

I love this version more than PS2 remake, their Arabian night style is more in sync with the theme than the PS2's regular European style that you can find almost in all other fantasy RPG.

  • This game was and still is very unique for it's time.

As much as I like Final fantasy, I hate that it sets the trend for JRPG's. FF12 was a travesty and should never have been made, but unfortunately it also set the trend for current RPG's...bleh.

The battle music is so bad ass for this boss!

  • Looks like a good game!

    Need FAN TRANSLATION!!

  • There is a remake for the PS2. New quests and characters, however the characters got redesigned a bit, so do not expect them to look like they did in the SNES version.

  • who da lizard?

  • 画質よすぎ

  • 幻体にきずぐすりは意味ないが,,,

  • This game looks pretty good. First time I've seen it in action.

The battle sprites look a lot like Final Fantasy V's.

  • looks familiar no? the guy on top looks like butz. only with a headband.

love the music and everything! barely anyone western appreciates SaGa.

  • i felt so insulted when final fantasy decided that RPG's should have no more than three-character parties

  • same here. i would like to see a rpg with a 5 or 6 vangaurd character party again.

  • Kenji Ito's music is A-W-E-S-O-M-E

  • Got that right lol.

  • I mean where else could you find a kung fu gator in a RPG or a lobster man?

  • He's a Geckling. (lizard man)

  • wow the party seems abit big

  • It would have been cool if this was ported over to the DS. I would have liked to have tried out this series. It's a shame RPGs weren't popular enough back in the days to try porting over some other titles. I like FF but I would have liked to see other games of this nature.

  • @yuukisama2001 Well actually this IS on the PS2...but it's got upgraded graphics. :(

  • @Aimingforcute

Yeah, I know I found out about it around the same time I saw this vid posted. But I didn't like the 3D graphics or the redesigns.

  • @Aimingforcute I'm playing through the PS2 English version at the moment and loving it, despite the odd graphics. As it stands, I actually own the originally SFC version but don't feel comfortable enough with Japanese yet to go too much into it. I would love to see the other two remade and ported here, but none of the SaGa games really do that well in the US due to their quirky gameplay style.

  • @yuukisama2001 Same here. All of SQUARE ENIX's games from 1987-1996 were awesome (Except for Super Mario RPG). That is why I call that time period The Golden Age of Square Enix.

  • I had no idea that the recent Romancing SaGa was a remake...

  • it is.

if you look at the graphics (character modles and such) it stays true to old school days. there propotions and movements are snes styled.

  • thank you for uploading.

    saga games:

    romancing saga

    romancing saga 2

    romancing saga 3

    saga frontier

    saga unlimited

romancing saga MS (remake of romancing saga)

final fantasy legends (not sure about this one)

  • Yeah, Legends is part of the SaGa series.

  • thanks for clarifiying.

    I forgot to mention

    SaGa frontier 2

  • Also, I was told that Wild Card for the Wonderswan belongs to the SaGa series.

  • this is the 1st one??

  • yeppers

  • First Romancing SaGa Game, 4th SaGa Game in general, the Final Fantasy Legend Series were SaGas 1-3

  • i know Rosa from final fantasy 4 came and caste float on them

  • Nah, it's just for effect, Romancing SaGa 3's final battle is in a sky like area as well (Abyss)

  • Excellent video, Mr. Crispy. I do have one question about it, however: Why are 2/3 of the active party standing in mid-air?

  • cuz the system only allowed 3 member standing in the first row at the beginning of a battle even though you can change it plus weapon have their own ranges,if every one is using sword or axe, then you have to move them so that they can atk, just like reading my reply, it would cause too much work.

  • I like this BGM!!

  • Battle BGM: Coup de Grace Saruin Stats: HP: 65535+@ DEF: 255 STR: 50 ATK: 95 Skill: 95 AGI: 75 INT: 125 WIL: 70 COM: 0 CHA: 95 BTW the Background has nothing to do with it, it just changes as turns go by.
  • To be more precise, it first changes at the end of each turn for 6 turns

and then it changes according to Saruin remaining Hps.

  • the battle BGM is super cool!

  • Nice fight. I notice that Saruin doesn't seem to attack very often. I like how the coming of dawn signals the end of the fight. I also see they divided Saruin in the PS2 version, one sword form and one pillar battle.
