  • Of the main CJKV (Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese) languages, besides Chinese languages only Vietnamese is most similar to Chinese. That's why Vietnamese merely had to create their own characters based on Chinese.

  • Japanese writings, Hirakana and Kitakana, are also developed based on Chinese characters, even though Japanese is not similar to Chinese at all. Korean had a similar similar writing system called 'Idu' and "Hyangchal' early one, but they did not gain popularity among Koreans.

  • I like Korean Hangeul because it is the only alphabet I know that is written in blocks.

  • hiragana is based on chinese calligraphy and katakana not so much, i dont know where it came from. japanese is similar to korean because korean colonies came to japan and thus japanese was born :3

  • Thanks for posting this; it was worth watching.

  • Thanks for posting this,

I am trying to learn Korean and korean history.

It was my first language but since I move to the US I got rusty.

And I am trying to get back to my Korean roots.

The only thing I saw remotly similar to this

was when I was in Korea when I was 14 in DaGu

at a museam taliking about SoJaog One.

  • chinese sinograms = difficult and long to learn

japanese writing system = semi-easy and no too long to learn

korean hangul = super easy and super fast to learn

  • true but Chinese characters are a cultural asset of China. Hangul was made by the Koreans for the Korean language.
