Australia should follow Canada's lead on this. Besides, I've been with Australians and people have asked them "where in New Zealand are you from?" or even worse "what part of England are you from?" Australia deserves a flag of its own that clearly says "Australia." The Canadian flag, the UK flag, the American flag, the Japanese flag, the French flag, even the Italian flag, all represent their countries well. People can't tell with the current Australian flag.
I have deep respect for Australians, but in all honesty, the whole idea that Australians can't change their flag because men and women died under it is ridiculous. Canada changed its flag in the early 1960s (after WWI and WWII) and Canadians have embraced their flag like second to none (the Canadian flag is EVERYWHERE in Canada, on homes, on cars, on buildings, and is proudly flown by a number of veterans associations). It seems Canadians are happy and proud to fly a flag of their own.

instead of the union jack, there should be a carton of VB. instead of the southern cross there should be a few meat pies, some ciggies, a beach, and a bunch of real men wearing holden jackets.
It would be awesome to se an animation like this, but with the Ostrogothian flag :) (Östergötlands flagga in swedish) it's pretty much the same as the swedish flag, but instead of blue background and a yellow cross, it's a yellow background with a blue cross :)

I can't beleive that other brits are calling it an insult to have the union jack on your flag. It reflects our close bond and heritage. Long live the queen of UK and AUSTRALIA! lol

I don't hate your flag or the UK. The Queen is our head of state, so I guess you do rule us. The union jack represents a small but significant part of our history. We need a flag that represents all of Australia and not the first white fella to land on our shores and kill of the natives.
erm no we dont, neither australia or britain has executive powers over any nation in the commonwealth. And pretty much britain had builted up australia so yes britain does have alot to do with australian history.
