The main difference is the fact that Michigan so easily demolished OSU before that period. OSU became more competitive which has led to the current rivalry, but there is no doubt the rivalry was a joke when Michigan's original streak occured. Personally, since so many UM alums want to pretend they're really from the Ivy League, I think that Michigan should just go ahead, leave the Big 10, and join the Ivy League. You might want to check out the level of academics at State universities. Among their peers, UofM is at the top with Cal, Berkley and UVa.

SlickWilly, I am fully aware of the "rivalry" of which you speak, but my Michigan friends contend that THE rivalry in Ann Arbor is just up the road in East Lansing. I realize that Buckeye fans resent the fact that Michigan State is Michigan's natural rivalry. Might the bitterness in Ohio be a result in the academic disparity between MIchigan and Ohio State? As a prospective engineering student I was accepted to the OSU school of engineering, and rejected by the UofM school of engineering.

@Eagle027 yup, that's exactly what anyone related to the situation is saying....harbaugh clearly wanted to join his brother in the nfl, where he could get paid a handsome paycheck and compete for super bowls. hey, we lost, but at least we didn't put players out there that didn't deserve to be out there. osu would have gotten wrecked without those players and would have maintained their destruction of the big ten's reputation

I got one question for you...Since you were able to understand football what is Michigan vs OSU record..Since 1950 OSU 32 Michigan 27 3 ties...OSU had good teams during that time frame...Michigan had our number. Michigan has plain sucked the last 3 years. It will take the coach another 3 years to fix. Look at your recruiting for this year for example.

Michigan won the championship under that year's system, face the facts. They were ranked #1 and won their bowl game, that's why they were the national champions. How can you hold something against Michigan when they did everything they possibly could to win? They went undefeated and were ranked #1, should they have petitioned for a new schedule?

I can just as easily say, oh, Michigan went 5-4-1 against Hayes and that's when they were both at their peaks, so therefore Michigan is better. you see I excluded a lot of information. If your school is so great, why do we have more big ten championships? Everytime you talk about the mich - osu record or big ten championships you have to make excuses and exclude years, that tells you something

Michigan has 11 national titles, OSU has 7 titles. Michigan has 53 more all-time wins than OSU and has a higher all-time win percentage

There was no need to mention Newton, OSU put themselves in his conversation by selling their championship rings. You don't need to be undefeated to be #1, but you should have at least beat the #1 team when you faced them (as Alabama did) if you are going to claim that you are #1. illinois had a winning record. what's funny is we beat as many bcs teams as ohio state and didn't have to use suspended players to do it!!!

@Eagle027 Any past record is debatable. Just because something is long in the past doesn't remove its relevance. In fact, even the last sixty matchups have been relatively evenly split. The main difference is the fact that Michigan so easily demolished OSU before that period. OSU became more competitive which has led to the current rivalry, but there is no doubt the rivalry was a joke when Michigan's original streak occured. Whether its Rich Rod or someone else, Michigan will be back
