  • Thanks so much for posting this. When my hair was shorter I used to rod my locs but now my hair is too long. Now I will be able to get my spiral curls on.

  • AWESOME!!! this is just what I needed!!!

  • You think this could work with non-braided hair? It looks so pretty(:<3

  • Isn't it a bit strange to see someone with locs dancing and rejoicing in the fact that their hair looks like a little White girls? I mean the tutorial is good, but the whole "I look like a little White girl" thing is a bit much.

  • @TheAntiIntellect the curls remind me of Shirley temple. there's nothing wrong with that.

  • @TheAntiIntellect i encourage you to take your judgement elsewhere

  • @TheAntiIntellect Why is it a problem to you? As long as it looks good, that is all that matters.

  • What nail polish do you have on? BTW great post. I can't wait until my locs are long enough (I just started them a month ago)

  • 8:49 WAKA FLAKA FLAM!!!!!!!

  • You know, i was never for dreadlocks EVAR, but you are definitely making me rethink things. Not to mention that you are DUMB GORGEOUS. geeezzzz.

  • You so rock! Thank you so much for these videos. I'm posting them on my facebook page so that all my friends can see how our beautiful hair unfolds!!

  • @kimberlyperette aw! thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you for this video! Tried it for this first time a few days ago and keep getting compliments! (Still haven't separated my curls yet.) Again, thank you for this tutorial!! :)

  • Great work

  • Thank you for sharing this tip!

  • @qualabear2000 sure! check my latest video for a new way to curl your locs without tools or product! i've had awesome results :)

  • Since watching your videos I have become inspired to try locks. Your styles are amazing ! :)

  • The first time I tried this I looked like a toy poodle because I wrapped them too small. The good thing is that my curls lasted me almost 2 weeks. As they began to fall I had this whole wavy thing going on. I'm now IN LOVE with the pipe cleaner technique, I told almost everyone I know about it and your videos. Thank you soo much for this tutorial, lots of love from Florida! <3

  • @Tranquilbutterfly28 next time try just doing the curls on the bottom half of your locs. i did another video for this style called "loose pipe cleaner curls" where i put my hair into pigtails beforehand. it gives you a longer looser curl. and you could always pull them once you take them out to make them loose. glad you were able to give it a try! ps. i'm originally from south florida! so excited to go home for Christmas

  • ur gorgeous!! lol. & thnks for the videos!!! I've learnt alot already! lol. I've had my dreads for like 6years now & starting to hav a desire to experiment styles with them! lol

  • Thanks for the video...i watched 3 others before i got to yours...it was the BEST. Can't wait to try it on my locs!!!

  • i dont even have dreads why am i watching your vids

  • @XxXRAWRXiTSXLiLYXxX i've been told my hair videos are quite hypnotizing :)

  • @chescalocs they are very nice videos, i just don't have any way of doing them, unless i got dreads but that wouldn't look very good on me lol

  • Thanks so much for this beautiful style. I'm gonna be rocking this for my college graduation. Please keep up your awesome work!

  • @babygirl10113 wonderful! congrats on graduating!

  • TOO CUTE! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!

  • Thank you for this video!! (All your loc videos for that matter) I just tried this for the first time and I'm overjoyed about the results. Can't wait until the next time I can try it, thinking it'll look even better now that I've got it down to a science!

  • I CAN NOT WAIT to try this... and I love your personality too.. one of the few tutorials i actually ENJOYED watching. Found your video through BronzeGoddess. :-) I will let you know the turn out. I"m super excited to try this

  • @scarlettez aw you're sweet! i just did a new curly hairstyle tutorial, "loc knots". the curls are a little different, but they're really pretty and easier to sleep in. hope you can check out the video and possibly try it!

  • Most definitely love your hair! Im Gonna try this style this weekend :)

  • I love your hair. I really learned from you and you sing well lol. U r a good teacher.

  • I love it I'm gonna do my client tomorrow this way :)

  • Thanks so much! Well, I did it last night and waiting a couple of days for the outcome. Thanks again for the help!

  • really nice. Going to try today

  • loved this thx

  • @BittersweetLife84 i have my days lol

  • Hi Fran, I was wondering if you came up with this technique, or did you see someone else do it?

  • @onyxspirals i learned from other tutorials on youtube

  • love your instructions, they are very helpful because I am trying to learn to do my own hair. Thank you for posting.

  • Hurrhurr. I went out and bought the pipe cleaners from Michael's the same night I watched this. Had a little twist partae~ and now Im gonna try em out! :D Love your vids! x)

  • Thank you so very much. I am very inexperience when it comes to maintaining my locs. I got the pipe cleaners, after I am done with my homework, I will try this. Thanks again, by the way, your locks are beautiful...

  • Can you ever get rid of locs after you get them?

  • @4morganclayton locs can be combed out or you can cut them off.

  • Greetings Ches. As I write this I have a head full of pipe cleaners. Yaaay!! I'm normally a "wrap my head up with african cloth" sistah..but am stepping out my box. It was hard as my locs are almost to my bottom so it took aaaaaaaages. Fingers and arms are like..wel..cant use them for a week lol.Only thing I want to ask is...How long should I keep them in for??? Am sure u have said...so sorry if u have answered this question a trillion times. One Love...

  • wonderful

  • lovely!

  • Thank you so much!!! My locs are long and I like to curl them but I have to be in the mood and have the time! But this is exactly what I needed!

  • u and ur hair are beautiful! thanks for doing this video

  • pLease excuse the hair challanged lol but how do you remove the pipe cleaners?

  • @nowrissa you unfold the end that was used to secure the pipe cleaner and then you just slide them out. you literally just pull the pipe cleaner out and your hair will stay curled. hope that helps!

  • I love your videos.. they are so informative.. keep em' comin.

  • I tried this style last night and took out the pipe cleaners this morning and i absolutely L-O-V-E the results!! Im in the short phase of my sisterlocks not yet to the bottom of my neck and I stay researching different styles to keep me motivated on the end process. This was quick, simple and CHEAP. Thanks so much this style has opened up so many more ideas for me!

  • Very nice.

  • Chescalocs thanks ..not only have you change my life with this method, but you have forever changed You tube.Everywhere on you tube there are ppl who's posting and doing tuts using pipe cleaners.

  • chescalocs thank you for introducing me to another way of curling my hair, and the way you pull them out afterwards, small blisters are a minor price to pay.....my hair normally takes 4-5 hours to do from washing, retwisting and then sitting under the dryer as i have over 100 locs that i cut regularly as i find the length toooo much to handle - just past my shoulder blades is length enough ;-) Once again thank you XXXXX

  • Would this work for different types of hair? Like caucasian hair? I'm seriously not trying to be racist or anything, but we have different types of hair, you know? Thanks :)

Btw it looks gorgeous on you, especially seperated!!! :)

  • @Linzee1998 thanks! no offense taken :) pipe cleaners probably wouldn't work on your hair texture because it's not as thick, but you could try a similar method using fabric strips or even brown paper bag strips! do a search for "rag curls" and you'll find a tutorial

  • @chescaleigh Ok Thank you!!! :)

  • Thank you! Your locs are lovely!

  • Thank you so much!!!!! I'm in my fourth year of having locs and have been looking for a way to make changes...........You are a God send. Thanks so much and please keep making videos. I'm going to curl my hair tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!

  • God send!! I was using the dft color rods ($3.99per pack) and staying home for two days. Now at least I can run errands if I need too. Cost efficient and cute - lovin' it!! Thank you much!

  • GIRL..THIS IS SOOO CUTE. I AM GOING TO TRY SOON!!!!!

  • your hair is so cute in the pipe cleaners. i swear you can pull off any length :D

  • @lamasodope thank you!

  • Great video .

  • Thank you for sharing! I've seen some people online trying to sell this info for quite a bit of money.

  • my pipecleaners have little fuzzies coming off of them, is that normal?

  • @TheSkyhazFallen it's normal to have a little bit of fuzziness, but you shouldn't be losing clumps of fur off of the pipecleaner. if you're running into that problem i'd try buying another pack of pipe cleaners

  • @chescalocs Thanx for responding. I was determined to get the style, so I just wet the pipe cleaners and kept it moving. Good upload.

  • i plan on doing mine on Thursday and wanted to know does it matter if i start from the back or front ?

  • @kellyluv84 nope! doesn't matter.

  • i jus wanna say i tried this and my hair turned out amazin!!...i got compliments left ritght and center!!...this is my new favorite hairstyle thank you sooo much...keep up with the videos!!

  • @Dixin76 awesome! best of all the style evolves as the curls fall. let me know what you think next week! :)

  • Comment removed

  • Luv luv luv your tutorials. Very helpful and well done. Just wondering if you have any suggestions for frizz. Within a week my locs are frizzy and my parts are blended even though i wear a scarf every night. It's driving me batty! Help! 8-)

    Thx

  • @dunlopl38 are your locs kinda young? fuzziness is part of having natural hair/locs, but as they mature it does get better. the best way to cut down on frizzies is to palm roll. just try not to over do it.

  • Great VID as always! and of course your hair looks FAB :)

  • Great VID as always! and of course your hair looks FAB :)

  • this is amazin! n ive always wanted this style in my hair! wow! imm atry this!

  • omg got to get pipe cleaners thx for the tip

  • I just rolled my hair with the pipe cleaners and I'm kinda nervous about how they will turn out...but I'm also excited. I'm trying to do different styles with my hair. I need to seeing that my locs are 8 years old this month!

  • I love it...I'm going to try curling my hair with pipe cleaners now:)

  • @Divadesertlocs awesome! feel free to post photos of your results on my fanpage!

  • @chescalocs could you do these curls with loose hair??

  • LOL i LOVE ur shirley temple song lol Cute.

  • This is Awesome!!! Will do

  • Ur so cute, great idea!

  • I found my pipe cleaners at Family Dollar. $1.00 for a pack of 50

  • THANK U SOOO MUCH!!! I have wondered what the pipe cleaners looked like lol. I've rolled my hair with rollers b4 that were too small and I wasn't pleased with the results. I will be at Walmart later to buy my pipe cleaners.

  • do you have kids named Arissa and MADISON CAUSE I PLAY WITH THEM OUT SIDE AND TODAY

  • @deeandshey i don't have children, just dogs lol

  • Thanks! You made this look so easy. can't wait to see how mine turn out ;)

  • YOU GO GIRLL..!!!

  • great vid i will try this once my locs get a lil longer i am a newbie i started my locks on march 9 but i was natural for about 21/2 yrs so i hve some length just not the length i want to do this style!!! thax for the vid it was great ... @ 902sharm they also hve pipe cleaners at dollar tree in the lil craft section 25 or 50 in the pack

  • @missgeegee1220 great suggestion! thanks!

  • Hey this looks gorgeous! I've been loced 7 years and can't sit to try! Do you know the size of the pipe cleaners you used? 30 X 6 or 30 x 4?

  • @abundance131 no idea what size i used. either length should be fine

  • OMG..... I freakin love you!!!! I've been growing my dreads for 2 1/2 years now and I just recently started curling them (well my sister curls them for me) but with rollers. I just think the pipe cleaners give the curls a much betterrrrrr....hmmmm whats the word, CURL! Thanks so much, I'm definitely subscribing! : )

  • @ Chescalocs- Took you an hour huh? Interesting. My hair is much longer, and I believe I spend more time making sure the entire lock from the root to the tip is oiled/gelled and such it takes me longer. 1 & 1/2 2 hours. So I'm wondering how much more time would it take to do my roots and roll? Maybe I should try it at a time when my roots don't need to be redone and see how long it takes me to complete it? :) No, I haven't seen the clip free loc maintenance video. I will have to check it out.

  • hey so did u go to micheal's or walmart?

  • @902sharm michael's. but i'm pretty sure you can find them in the craft section at walmart

  • Good job!!!!pretty easy hair do yet funky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thumbs up!

cant wait to pull it it only if i can find a store to get them,,,,i had of micheals and walmart......but went to micheals yesterday but couldnt find them...please let me know of the specific section that i can get them from......will be much Appr!

  • @902sharm thanks! not sure where the pipe cleaners are exactly in the store, but they for sure have them. i was there today actually. next time, ask an employee to point you in the right direction instead of leaving empty handed. best of luck! let me know how they turn out!

  • How long did all of this take? You re-twisted your roots and wrapped your hair in the pipe cleaners. Normally how long would it take you to do your hair if you weren't rolling them on the pipe cleaners?

  • @vanilla317 i think this took me at least an hour. but now i'm a lot faster. have you watched my clip free loc maintenance video? it now takes me about half an hour to just retwist my hair. what i've been doing recently is retwisting my entire head before putting the pip cleaners in which i think makes the entire process go by a bit faster.

  • I love tthis I really am going to try it.

  • So stinkin' cute! I LOVE IT!!! ♥Dig♥

  • Eye love this style, can't wait to try it! Lovin your Channel too : )

  • Just wanted to say that i tried the pipe cleaner curls for the second time. The first time I was not all that serious when doing it, but it came out pretty good. However after getting my locs re-tightened and getting some black pipe cleaners from Michael's I did it again for my birthday. I've gotten compliments on it everyday that I leave the house. I have had my locs for 3 years come April and have never styled them other than a ponytail if that counts. Thanks for sharing this style.

  • I have been watching your how-to videos and they have been sooo helpful, my ten year old daughter has dreads and I have been at a lost with finding different styles for her, i am gonna take a before and after pic of her hair, she wants pipe curls, but she has so much new growth, i cant wait to show you

  • Love your video your so pretty in it i thumbsed it up!

Check out my new video an rate an comment an tell me what you think!

  • Thanks so much for putting up your video. I have been trying to figure out how to get the curliness using the pipe cleaners. I used them before one loc per pipe cleaner and they can out like long tight spirals. It was cute but I have been wanting curls for so long. Your video was precise and funny..lol. Thanks again. I will try it tomorrow.

  • I like the curliness and bounce of this. I will definitely give it try, even as a comparison to the old method I used to make my locs wavy.

  • Wow amazing ive never heard of this wow thanks so much for sharing!

  • oooo-ive been soooo frustrated with my locs! I've been growing mine for 6 years and i've never seen this done before! Maybe there's hope that will urge me to keep them a lil bit longer! I can't wait to try it:) thanks for sharing!!

  • Hi! I'm 3 months into my loc journey and I am so excited! I want long, beautiful, healthy locs like yours!

but i have a question: How do you get rid of dandruff in your locs? i wash my hair, i scrub, i rinse and my hair feels clean. then i see dandruff on my scalp underneath my loc. i try to scratch it out, but i'm afraid i'd undo the loc. they're only babies. Help? <3

  • I will be doing this hairstyle as soon as my hair is long enough. Thank you for taking the time to show how to do this hairstyle.

  • Wow I am amazed of the ease of these curls Much easier and less stress on locs than braiding I haven't separated the curls yet but expect great results thanks for the information. by the way do you have any info on maintaince my ends seem to be unraveling

  • AHHHH I LOVE IT !!!!!!

  • wrap-a loc

  • I love the pipe curls and the tip on how to twist them without clips!

  • Gorgeous!

  • Thanks so Much for the Tutorial, I had GREAT Results, this method ROCK~:)

  • Hi there, is this recommended on hair that is not locked?

  • @CreativelySoulful sure. it's basically putting your hair in rollers.

  • This worked like a charm!! Thank you sooooo much!! ;-)

  • i'm finally gonna give this a try. i struggled before cuz i couldnt find an easy way to get the locs on the pipe cleaners.

    thanks!

  • @raxxie i did it and i LOVE the curls! i'm gonna post my vid as a response to yours. thanks for the vid!

  • Thanks so much. You make it so simple. Results tomorrow!

  • thank you so much

  • Sorry I must have hit the enter button twice well I got my curls and they turned out ok I think I needed more than 25 pipe cleaners but for the most part the people at my job liked it I haven't separated them yet but I will thanks again

  • @mznavy64 awesome! glad you tried it out and had success!

  • Where is your video of the finished product? I am thinking about locking up but I am pretty terrified. I am scared my locks will become brittal and break off I want length like yours. Also right now I have my hair twisted and it has been in since thursday...It is fuzzy and it itches. How in the world am I going to keep locs in if this is already itching and I want to take it out? And my last question is since it is fuzzy I am losing my original grid is that how it is just going to be starting

  • @1mommy1988 at the end of the video i take the pipe cleaners out. those are the final results. i also included a video response that shows what the curls looked like a few days later after i separated them. if your hair is itching, it's not because of the twists. your scalp is probably dry. unfortunately, frizz comes with the territory when it comes to having locs. check out my happy birthday hair video to see a loc timeline so you can see how the hair matures

  • I tried this style twice the first time i did groupings like in the vid and they came out okay but i wasn't impressed. then I did it again rolling each loc separately on its own pipe cleaner...it took for ever but the results were great!!!

  • @301sophi

Can you sit under the dryer my hair is very thick

  • @mznavy64 yeah it will help the drying process and if u use a product the indirect heat will definitely help

  • @301sophi thanks sophi I will definitley try that

  • Can I do these with dry locs. I did them wet and they came out beautifully but will I be successful doing them dry and just leaving them in longer. wetting my hair loosens my roots.

  • @latrealhayden in my experience, dry locs won't hold a shape. if you don't want to completely wet your hair, you can dampen it using a spray bottle. that way, you can dampen the locs without losing the tightness in your roots. also, i recommend retwisting your roots (the way i did in this video) after you wash/wet your hair and put in the pipe cleaners.

  • just tried this style for a wedding this weekend. Did it two day prior to the wedding. Everyone swore i cut my hair at first glance lol. I love the results it's been what four days and the curls are still tight. I'm letting them naturally drop.

Thanks for the step by step tutorial..it has been very helpful.

I will definitely do it again.

  • O M G ... I am lov'n this. I watched this on Thursday night. Friday picked up the pipe cleaners and Saturday night did the do ... I've gotten so many compliments. Some even thought I cut my locs. They weren't that bad to sleep in either. Thank you so much for sharing this inexpensive way to style my locs.

  • i love it i git my locks 4 years now and i never did eniting like that but i'm defenetly gonna try that

  • awesome! I'm so excited to try this out!

  • Oh my goodness! This is so exciting. .this is my first time seeing this and now I'm on the j.o.b. to use pipe cleaners next curling. I currently use rod rollers and they can't be slept in no matter how I trick my mind. .I can't. .but pipe cleaners will be way easier to sleep in. .yay! Thanks

  • Thanks for this. Beautiful!

  • How long does that take to dry?

  • @301sophi

it all depends on how you are choosing to dry it..via hair dryer/sit unde dryer or air dry...sit under depends on how long your hair is and how full. If you have a lot more locks then a little bit longer...take breaks in between just for your scalp sake and to prevent over heating...air dry over night should do.

  • LOVE THIS STYLE!! I tried it for the 1st time this wknd, it came out so cute & the compliments have been rolling in:). My fear now is sleeping on them, fingers crossed that they stay for a good part of the wk!

  • @thatnygirl09 Great! Wrap your hair with a scarf and you should be able to keep the curls through the week. They also look really pretty once they start to fall and become loose. Enjoy!

  • i hope you don't mind answering again if you did already but i was too lazy to read all the comments. plus i wanted to watch the video of the separated curls but what was the product you used?

  • @biggrapp313 *sigh* 00:33 seconds into this video i start out by listing all of the products i'm using

  • @chescaleigh my bad. i was trying to skip through to the point where you actually started demonstrating the process and went too far. sorry. thanks.

  • @biggrapp313 no problem

  • i have a hand fetish. lol u have some pretty hands

  • can u use straws if u cant get any pipe cleaners?

  • @rockerchic99 sure! but you might have trouble securing them once you've wrapped your hair.

  • @rockerchic99 wont work with straws.

  • So looking forward to trying this out! I've been locked now for 2 1/2 years and I have a nice lenght. I typically go and have my hair maintenanced, but this will allow me to save some money and learn a different way of doing my hair! I will let you know how it turns out!

Also your hair is very beautiful!

  • Much cheaper alternative to wrapalocs

  • i know this vid is old but hopefully u can repond to this message, how long did it take to dry?

  • @dangerousmuzak i dried my hair overnight. but you can use a blow dryer to speed up the process

  • Thank you so much for this! I tried it and I LOVE my hair! I slept in the pipe cleaners and they didn't hurt at all. I will def. be doing this again and again.

  • I totally tried this and it worked great!! Thank you :)

  • I LOVE WHEN YOU WERE SINGING..GOOD SHIP AND... OPP !! FIND ANOTHER PIPE CLEANER..LOL..

  • Hi Chesca, this is a great video - I saw it a few months ago but couldn't find pipe cleaners! I finally got black ones last week and put them in on Sunday. My locs are similar in length to yours and everyone was asking if I cut my hair, lol. I took them out today and I LOVE IT!!! Will probably wear the Shirley Temple for a couple of days before loosening the curls. Thanks!!!!

  • Love the look...Great easy to follow instructions....Girl you are a natural

  • Today is Monday Sept.27 2010...after work l picked up my pipe cleaners from Micheals. washed my locs and did my thing...dont know how l'll sleep but we'll see in the morning.....thanks and goodnite.

  • I'm going to try agin, first time didn't come out well. Second times the charm.

  • Mine came out so good!!! It took two try's but the second time was a charm. I'm

On day three and I still got some curls!! Preciate your video. Very helpful.

  • Thanks so much for sharing with us. I've had my sisterlocks for 2 years now and I've never really styled... because I just don't know how to. It is now time to experiment. :)

    Thanks again!!!

  • thank you for this video!!!
