It's a tool assisted speed run. Like slowing the game down so you can see and plan what's going to happen.

Hands down, Strider: best Genesis game

Also great: Midnight Resistance, Robocop vs. Terminator, Streets of Rage 1 and 2, and even Quackshot was pretty fun.

SoR 2 was my all time favourite.

I never completed this game, although I remember thinking the graphics were amazing!

Is there some kind of God mode being used?

There are times where I could have swore you'd die/take damage and it doesn't appear to hurt him (running through the ape boss, hitting the spiked platform, etc).
