Is it possible to miscast a movie worse then this? Kinda silly to remake Psycho anyways but if you are gonna do it at least make it watchable! I mean really-- would a person be interested in "getting their walkman" when they are trying to track down their missing sibling? This direction shows a shocking lack of psychological understanding-- which is all the more terrible since psychological understanding and tension is what Hitchcock is famous for!
ugh this was painful to watch, it seems they're just throwing words at the air no emotion just blah blah and vince from the begining looks creepy he is supposed to look like a nice guy and anne is flirtatious and dumb but thanks for sharing i just wanted to take a look!
@xXsamiiiXx I agree completely. That was the biggest problem I had with this remake, it wasn't so much the acting or the sets or the shot for shot stuff, it was that the dialogue they had to use seems so forced here. It doesn't come off as emotional or heartfelt or authentic like it did in the original. Like you said it just seems that they are throwing words in the air, just parroting lines without meaning them or thinking them. Very "phoning it in" type of performances.
I dont understand. At 22 mn, it's written there, it's lighted, "BATES MOTEL", this lovely young lady look at it, reads it, and it's raining, and it's the same music, and she got that huge amount of money, and ... and she's going there anyway ! Chérie! Never heard of Hitchcock's Psycho? Dame!!
I notice this : English isn't my mother tongue. However, I understood clearly every word, every sentence of the 1960s' Hitchcock release, from beginning to end, easily, no effort. This time, pleasure mixes with the chore of trying to catch what the actors mumble ... I'm at 5 mn 23 sec and still running ... (And btw thanks for uploading the movie, Videodrome.)
The musical score at the beginning is still inspiring, exciting, filled with mystery. Bernard Herrmann was behind the music for the 1960 Hitchcock release. Apparently, they kept Herrmann's music for this 1998 remake. Good thing. It's the first time I watch that remake. I'm at 1 mn 33 sec ... Qui vivra verra :-))
worst remake ever. we compared the original to this. Vince Vagn(no idea how to spell his name) plays a terrible Norman Bates. Don't get me wrong I think Vince is a great and funny actor, but I just can't take him seriously in this movie. Plus I really don't want to see him fapping.
Not that bad of a remake, though One of the few things that ticks me off is the change in the design of the house behind the motel. I like the 1960 version's house better.
Gus Van Sant's nearly scene for scene recreation of the innovative 1960 landmark miscast Vince Vaughn as mama's boy Norman Bates, the bit where he spies on Marion disrobing through peephole has an added sleazy dimension showing Bates masturbating, ugh. Vaughn is nowhere near the actor Anthony Perkins was
guys, everything is acurate, the dialouge, movements and title seuents are exactly the same. I think the studio just made this for fun. so who cares if it sucks. im only watching this because of viggo mortensen.
The movie really isn't a bad remake, actually it's impressive that the director captured so many of the details from the original. But Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates? Vince Vaughn? Really? Who's dick did he have to suck to get that part? Big miscast there.
Actually, it's funny you say that because Vince Vaughn is actually very close to how Norman Bates looks like in the novel from which the original movie was adapted from. In Robert Bloch's novel, Norman Bates is short, fat, older, and very dislikable. It was Alfred Hitchcock who decided to have him be young, handsome, and sympathetic.
Ok remake, Being that the film industry is in the hole many industries attempt to remaster a classic like this and hope for more money and ratings than the original.

I think for this remake, Johnny Depp should have played Norman Bates.

This movie was much better than critics and fans made it out to be. I loved the part where Julianne Moore kicks Vince Vaughn. It was awesome.
