Both of these women are very beautiful. I think they did a good job on this scene. The only 'cat fight' better then this is the scene where Krystle goes to Alexis' studio looking for that broach. (My apologies if I might have that scene mistaken for something else, but my memory is a bit foggy. I've not seen that clip in a while.)

Catfights are the one thing that set Dynasty apart from the other nighttime soaps of the 80's. I think a catfight, on Knots Landing might have added the spice I think it needed. I find Dallas and Knots both quite boring actually. I'm not quite sure about Falcon Crest, but I guess that says enough. It seemed boring too.
Knots was boring because nothing happened! Dallas however has stuff going on! There wasn't any catfights on there just dogfights. Falcon Crest was labeled as a combination between Dynasty and Dallas, since it had some of Dynasty's glam, but was more realistic like Dallas.
These cat fights were written in the show for a purpose. The moment the ratings slipped or they were losing ground to Dallas, (the other major soap at the time ) a cat fight would be thrown in to boost the ratings. It became so transparent and obvious that viewers began to see the catfight for what it truly was, something silly to the point of being laughable, as you can see here.
I think this is only partially true... the first two catfights between Krystle and Alexis were not for "ratings" -- however, after that they did become ridiculously obvious (esp. the mud bath)... Rita/Krystle was justified as well ;)
To add to that Dallas started like 3 years before Dynasty. ABC was losing a lot of audiences to CBS because of Dallas. So they created their own Dallas, hence Dynasty! So basically you are right. All the catfights were just for ratings to attempt to beat Dallas!
When Alexis says "ow you bitch!" look behind her. Her back is facing her bed/end table and door to her bedroom. Instead behind her are her closets and her trunk with the red silk thing on top. An obvious choice in editing to move that clip to a different place in sequence.
When Dominique throws the ashtray Alexis ducks to her right and then she rises from her left. I would have had the fight more intense. Take out those flowers in the alcoves, smash that big white vase, knock a chair over and rip some silk!
I can't wait for this to be released on dvd. It was closer to a tie. Dominique was getting the better of her at the end and then Adam came in and broke it up. The truth of the matter is it shouldn't have been that close. Dominique told Alexis she was a street fighter. I never saw anyone from the street ever fight like that. Homegirl should've swept the floor with Alexis.

Though Krystle hit a few verbal home-runs verbally from time to time in her fights with Alexis, she kicked ass in the physical fights.
Dominique sort of had it going too with Alexis in the beginning, but the worst loser was poor Caress. Too bad as Kate O'Mara was wasted and wasn't given the right material.
I totally remember when this aired... "The Enquirer" made more of a big deal out of it than what really happened. Same w/the Amanda/Sammy Jo pool fight.
The biggest reason I watched Dynasty was for the legendary catfights. I would always rather watch two women going at it as two men. Women observe no rules, anything goes.
There was the scene at LaMirage where Dominique let her have it during her engagement party. I liked the fact in that scene you can see actors reacting to the slap in the background. The lighting director was great in that finale episode which compared so poorly to the following season opener.
This is a good fight. Even though it should have been a lot rougher, the build up dialogue to the first punch is excellent. Dominique should have pulled Alexis' mullet off. Great fight.
Another editing oversight, when the ashtray ducks Alexis she leans into her right side. As the ashtray smashes the vase, Alexis is standing up on her left side.
Somehow Dominique found the ability to tuck her blouse in during the fight and before Adam entered the room. In the original aired fight Alexis says "will you..really?" and for some reason it has been edited out. Diahann Carroll admitted on Rupaul that she was doubled in this scene as well. Joan I can see where, Diahann it is hard to tell.
In my opinion this was the lamest of the fights. Diahann as an actress has a great balance of honey and cyanide this should have been more vicious. One thought, have the thrown ashtray miss the vase and go through the picture window. Land and crack Adam's windshield as he pulls into the Carlton. Alexis should have had Dominique thrown out of the Carlton, a great vicious yelling scene in front of everyone in the lobby. (Alexis owned it at the time).
This was my favorite fight, probably because Diahann looks so damn beautiful. It's definitely better than the Alexis/Sable catfight that barely had any contact. And when Dominique falls back on the bed and hits poor Rio, that's just classic. Yes, Diahann's Dominique definitely had that honey/cyanide thing going, nice Beverlee McKinsey reference. :)
I LOVE BEVERLY! I got hooked on her as Iris on Another World. Her play off between Douglas Watson and Victoria Wyndham (in my opinion the first daytime bitch) was classic! Followed her on Texas and GL, as Alex what a way to finish a career. I'd love to see her work again!

I don't think anybody knew what to make of Falcon Crest. To this day I can't remember a single episode.

Catfights are the one thing that set Dynasty apart from the other nighttime soaps of the 80's. I think a catfight, on Knots Landing might have added the spice I think it needed. I find Dallas and Knots both quite boring actually. I'm not quite sure about Falcon Crest, but I guess that says enough. It seemed boring too.

Knots was boring because nothing happened! Dallas however has stuff going on! There wasn't any catfights on there just dogfights. Falcon Crest was labeled as a combination between Dynasty and Dallas, since it had some of Dynasty's glam, but was more realistic like Dallas.

These cat fights were written in the show for a purpose. The moment the ratings slipped or they were losing ground to Dallas, (the other major soap at the time ) a cat fight would be thrown in to boost the ratings. It became so transparent and obvious that viewers began to see the catfight for what it truly was, something silly to the point of being laughable, as you can see here.

I think this is only partially true... the first two catfights between Krystle and Alexis were not for "ratings" -- however, after that they did become ridiculously obvious (esp. the mud bath)... Rita/Krystle was justified as well ;)

To add to that Dallas started like 3 years before Dynasty. ABC was losing a lot of audiences to CBS because of Dallas. So they created their own Dallas, hence Dynasty! So basically you are right. All the catfights were just for ratings to attempt to beat Dallas!

When Alexis says "ow you bitch!" look behind her. Her back is facing her bed/end table and door to her bedroom. Instead behind her are her closets and her trunk with the red silk thing on top. An obvious choice in editing to move that clip to a different place in sequence.

When Dominique throws the ashtray Alexis ducks to her right and then she rises from her left. I would have had the fight more intense. Take out those flowers in the alcoves, smash that big white vase, knock a chair over and rip some silk!

I can't wait for this to be released on dvd. It was closer to a tie. Dominique was getting the better of her at the end and then Adam came in and broke it up. The truth of the matter is it shouldn't have been that close. Dominique told Alexis she was a street fighter. I never saw anyone from the street ever fight like that. Homegirl should've swept the floor with Alexis.

@mdterp01 Alexis always lost on physical fights but most of the time won when it came to bitch-fest back biting and sniping with her serpent's tongue.
Though Krystle hit a few verbal home-runs verbally from time to time in her fights with Alexis, she kicked ass in the physical fights.
Dominique sort of had it going too with Alexis in the beginning, but the worst loser was poor Caress. Too bad as Kate O'Mara was wasted and wasn't given the right material.

There was the scene at LaMirage where Dominique let her have it during her engagement party. I liked the fact in that scene you can see actors reacting to the slap in the background. The lighting director was great in that finale episode which compared so poorly to the following season opener.

This is a good fight. Even though it should have been a lot rougher, the build up dialogue to the first punch is excellent. Dominique should have pulled Alexis' mullet off. Great fight.

Another editing oversight, when the ashtray ducks Alexis she leans into her right side. As the ashtray smashes the vase, Alexis is standing up on her left side.

Somehow Dominique found the ability to tuck her blouse in during the fight and before Adam entered the room. In the original aired fight Alexis says "will you..really?" and for some reason it has been edited out. Diahann Carroll admitted on Rupaul that she was doubled in this scene as well. Joan I can see where, Diahann it is hard to tell.

In my opinion this was the lamest of the fights. Diahann as an actress has a great balance of honey and cyanide this should have been more vicious. One thought, have the thrown ashtray miss the vase and go through the picture window. Land and crack Adam's windshield as he pulls into the Carlton. Alexis should have had Dominique thrown out of the Carlton, a great vicious yelling scene in front of everyone in the lobby. (Alexis owned it at the time).

This was my favorite fight, probably because Diahann looks so damn beautiful. It's definitely better than the Alexis/Sable catfight that barely had any contact. And when Dominique falls back on the bed and hits poor Rio, that's just classic. Yes, Diahann's Dominique definitely had that honey/cyanide thing going, nice Beverlee McKinsey reference. :)

I LOVE BEVERLY! I got hooked on her as Iris on Another World. Her play off between Douglas Watson and Victoria Wyndham (in my opinion the first daytime bitch) was classic! Followed her on Texas and GL, as Alex what a way to finish a career. I'd love to see her work again!
