Wilson is a unique song stylist, a classically schooled jazz singer of an avant garde sort who's taken to being a practitioner of a new, intricate, soulful kind of jazz-soft rock - folk fusion.
@condreye I could not agree more with your comments. Cassandra Wilson is a gem, her voice is just unique, exquisite version. I haven't seen her singing live. Hope she comes to perform in London soon. Take care....
Cassandra Wilson's "Love is Blindness" always made me cry, like clockwork. This Wichita Lineman is Mrs. Wilson all over - sublime or very close to it - with a twist of sunshine in it. I loved the musical arrangement as well.
You know, I'm beginning to believe "L" is for Love. Overflowing generosity, that's what love is all about.
....and if i had to pick someone and a song to sing to play forever in my head, heart , and soul....it would be definitely this one...i need to look no further...yes, PERFECTION....
she's actually singing in the same key & pitch as Glen Campbell and Keith Urban and James Taylor and REM. She does an amazing magical job in making it her own. I'm blown away by it. The song is so much better than many people think it is. Proven by how many people keep taking it on.
@GuyBlakeKett Cash's version's not to be neglected; metinks the man behind this Craig Steel - ? - who apparently also produces kd lang - adult contemporary music

This can't be, nor can any newer versions compare to the original. But this is one is in a class of is own. Never heard it sung from a women's point of view before either.
I like the subtlety of the phrasing and the ability to hear the chord changes. New interpretations of standards are always interesting. This version ties James Taylor but the original is still the benchmark. All beautiful in their own way. Jimmy Webb really had a knack for catching the heart and the ear while telling his story...
@BobsArtGallery When I read your comment, I thought to myself, "Whatever!". But, then I went to check out Tom Jones' rendition of this song, and listened to some other artists singing this as well. Now, I can honestly say that, "I think you got a point there!". Well, I won't say that they sound silly, but they just don't measure up. Tootles:)
I had this on a compilation album a few years back....It is so joyous to hear her beautiful and mellifluous voice again. Her interpretation of this song is full of emotion and want for her man to return. Thanks for posting this!
I'll go with Glen Campbell's version as my favorite, but this is still AMAZING! I'm blown away by the fact that although the arrangement is different, she sings it in it's original key!!! The depth of Cassandra's tone is absolutely wonderful to hear...The rest of the album is really good, as well!

The tempo is too slow. She has a good voice, but this can't hold a candle to the original.

Why is she trying to sound like a dude? This is no good; it is to be sung in the first person, or it doesn't work. Thumbs down.

She makes this song her own, with style, with a woman's perspective, and with depth. I give it an 8.5.
